Language Preferences in Note-Taking for Consecutive Interpreting: Insights from Indonesian EFL Students
In the dynamic field of consecutive interpreting, language choice in note-taking is a critical skill that bridges cognitive processing and ensures the accurate delivery of messages. The present small-scale study investigates the language choice in note-taking for consecutive interpreting practices among Indonesian EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students. This aims to determine whether the students prefer to take notes in English or Indonesian when interpreting between these two languages and to reveal the reasons behind their preferences. This study employed a case study design, analyzing 45 note-taking samples, followed by conducting face-to-face interviews with 4 students to gain a deeper understanding. The findings reveal a significant preference for taking notes in English, irrespective of the direction of interpreting. This preference highlights the students’ inclination towards using English as a medium for cognitive processing and information retention in consecutive interpreting tasks. The results suggest that English proficiency plays a crucial role in the note-taking strategies adopted by Indonesian EFL students. These insights can inform teaching methodologies and curriculum design in interpreter training programs, emphasizing the importance of English proficiency in enhancing interpreting skills
Factors Influencing Student Motivation in English for Specific Purposes at Eastern Indonesian Universities
Motivation to learn English is essential for university students worldwide, as it impacts engagement and success in both general and specific academic contexts. However, prior research has seldom focused on motivation in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), especially in particular fields or majors, and is particularly limited in universities in Eastern Indonesia. This study aims to explore the factors of motivation among students in ESP programs and to identify which are most and least effective in supporting their learning. 150 students from universities in Eastern Indonesia participated in this study. Employing both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, students completed a quantitative questionnaire on their learning motivation, with data analyzed using SPSS 27. Additionally, qualitative data were collected through focus group interviews with 16 participants who had completed ESP courses, providing further insights into their opinions on ESP learning. The findings reveal that students are highly motivated by factors such as encouragement to communicate and collaborate with peers, clarity and ease of classroom instructions, and fairness and consistency in assessments. Moreover, the lecturer’s role in creating a positive classroom atmosphere was noted as a significant motivational factor. However, a lack of alignment between classroom activities and students’ specific fields often leads to disengagement. These results offer valuable references for ESP lecturers seeking to adopt practices that better motivate students, particularly by emphasizing career relevance and supportive learning environments
Negosiasi Fikih, Hukum Adat dan Maqashid Hifdz al-Mal dalam Pembagian Harta Waris Beda Agama di Sampit
Pembagian harta waris beda agama di Sampit, Kota Waringin Timur, Kalimantan Tengah menjadi permasalahan yang sangat kompleks. Artikel ini mengkaji pembagian harta waris dalam kasus perbedaan agama di Sampit, Kalimantan Tengah, melalui perspektif fikih dan maqashid syariah, khususnya konsep hifdz al-mal (menjaga harta) yang dikembangkan oleh Jasser Auda. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah empiris dengan pendekatan yuridis sosiologis. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan studi dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembagian harta waris beda agama di Sampit seringkali menimbulkan konflik akibat perbedaan pemahaman antara fikih, hukum adat, dan hukum positif. Melalui pendekatan maqashid syariah, khususnya hifdz al-mal, ditemukan bahwa prinsip keadilan, kemaslahatan, dan perlindungan hak kepemilikan dapat menjadi solusi untuk menyelesaikan sengketa waris beda agama. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan integrasi prinsip maqashid syariah dalam penyelesaian kasus waris beda agama untuk mencapai keadilan dan harmoni sosial. The division of inheritance in cases of differing religions in Sampit, East Waringin City, Central Kalimantan, is a highly complex issue. This article examines the division of inheritance in cases of religious differences in Sampit, Central Kalimantan, from the perspective of maqashid sharia, specifically the concept of hifdz al-mal (preservation of wealth) as developed by Jasser Auda. The research method employed is empirical, utilizing a sociological juridical approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document studies. The results indicate that the division of inheritance in cases of differing religions in Sampit often leads to conflicts due to varying interpretations between Islamic law, customary law, and positive law. Through the maqashid sharia approach, especially hifdz al-mal, it becomes evident that the principles of justice, public benefit, and the protection of property rights can serve as solutions for resolving interfaith inheritance disputes. This study recommends integrating maqashid sharia principles in resolving interfaith inheritance cases to achieve justice and foster social harmony

During this discussion, gender is only been about women because in the past (before the 19th century) women were not respected. So that the existence of men and their roles in the present (21st century AD) have received less attention to be studied as a special education, even though it is clear in the Qur'an, Surah An-Nisa verse 34, that "men are leaders for women" as Yusuf Ali translated qawwamah: men are protectors and maintainers for women. In order to realize the men reflected in the verse of QS. An-Nisa '[4]: 34, an in-depth study is needed on the biological and emotional side of men or what is commonly called masculinity. The concept of masculinity is not static and can change. Masculinity is closely related to interpersonal relationships, namely interactions with women, children and other men. Implementation of Green Accounting in Business Sustainability
The purpose of this study is to ascertain how green accounting implementation affects the sustainability of businesses. The findings of earlier studies will be examined in order to examine this influence. The meta-analysis method is employed in this study. A meta analysis examines several research findings on related issues. Written research on the application of green accounting in business sustainability, in the form of journal articles selected for their alignment with the research theme, serves as the unit of analysis for this study. With the use of a documentation guide, the researcher is the primary tool in this study. Both quantitative data analysis using percentages and qualitative data analysis using narrative study data from the research findings were employed in the data analysis process. Sample errors were determined by calculating the findings of the meta-analysis. The variance of the population correlation is 0.569, while the sampling error variance is 0.023. A relatively modest percentage of variance, or 4%, is created by sampling error when the variance value of the sample error is compared to the population correlation variance value multiplied by 100%. This percentage shows that sampling error-related error bias is minimal
Islamic Religious Education Teacher's Efforts to Prevent Radicalism in Indonesia: A Genealogical Analysis
Radicalism is very contradictory to the values of Islamic teachings. Islam upholds the principles of tolerance, peace, and the principle of respecting one's beliefs. This study aims to analyze and find ideal conceptual ideas for preventing student radicalism through the role of teachers in schools from a genealogical perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with a type of descriptive-analytic. In order to track historical traces and provide answers to the radicalism issue, the genealogical data analysis technique is utilized to examine the content of pertinent sources. The results of this study indicate that, genealogically, Islamic Religious Education teachers in schools have an important role in preventing radicalism because the main mission of Islamic Religious Education teachers is to teach Islam contextually, Islamic tolerance, and peace-loving Islam through efforts to internalize Islamic teachings that are in line with a sense of nationalism so that a generation with noble character is formed. In addition, Islamic Religious Education teachers also carry out the learning process by adhering to 5 main principles, namely respect for others, moderation, respect for creators, tolerance, and fairness.Paham radikalisme sangat kontradiktif dengan nilai-nilai ajaran Islam. Islam menjunjung tinggi prinsip-prinsip toleransi, perdamaian, maupun prinsip menghargai keyakinan seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan menemukan gagasan konseptual ideal dalam pencegahan radikalisme siswa melalui peran guru di sekolah dalam perspektif kajian genealogis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis deskriptif-analiti. Adapun teknik analisis data genealogi menganalisis konten atau isi dengan sumber-sumber referensi yang relevan untuk menelusuri jejak kesejarahan dan merumuskan solusi dari permasalahan paham radikalisme. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa, secara genealogis, guru PAI di sekolah memiliki peran penting untuk membendung paham radikalisme karena misi utama Guru PAI adalah mengajarkan agama Islam secara kontekstual, Islam yang toleran, dan Islam yang cinta perdamaian melalui upaya internalisasi nilai-nilai ajaran Islam yang selaras dengan rasa nasionalisme sehingga terbentuklah generasi yang berakhlakul karimah. Faktor Kemudahan Penggunaan, Manfaat, Keamanan Dan Kepercayaan Terhadap Minat Menggunakan M-Banking Pada Bank Syariah Indonesia Cabang Pamekasan
Perkembangan teknologi informasi menimbulkan evolusi yang mengarah kepada layanan perbankan digital (digital banking). Layanan ini bertujuan meningkatkan efisiensi kegiatan operasional dan mutu pelayanan bank kepada nasabahnya. Untuk itu, bank perlu mengembangkan strategi bisnis yang mengarah pada layanan perbankan digital. Layanan ini lebih berorientasi kepada pemenuhan kebutuhan nasabah dengan memanfaatkan sepenuhnya teknologi digital melalui perangkat (device) dan aplikasi (software) sebagai delivery channel. Dalam penelitian ini, populasi yang diambil adalah nasabah Bank BSI Kantor Cabang Pamekasan yang memiliki minat terhadap layanan mobile banking. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner. Metode pengambilan sampel dengan cara accidental sampling. Teknik pengambilan sampel yaitu mengguanakan purposive sampling dengan pertimbangan tertentu melalui penyebaran kuesioner secara online pada media sosial yang umu digunakan yaitu whatsapp. Data responden berasal dari nasabah Bank BSI Pamekasan sebanyak 100 orang. Dikategorikan menjadi 4 yaitu jenis kelamin, jenjang pendidikan, usia dan tingkat pendapatan atau penghasilan. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu uji kualitas data, uji asumsi klasik, dan uji hipotesis. Hasil analisis untuk model ini menunjukkan bahwa variabel kemudahan dan keamanan berpengaruh negatif terhadap minat, sedangkan variabel manfaat dan kepercayaan berpengaruh positif terhadap minat
Fenomena Perluasan Makna dalam Interaksi Penutur Bahasa Indonesia di Media Sosial X (Januari—Juli 2024): Analisis Semantik
This study aims to see language change in the form of meaning expansion between Indonesian speakers on social media X in the period January to July 2024. This qualitative research uses the method of listening and recording to collect data from the interaction of Indonesian speakers. The results of this study show that there are 11 data found to have experienced changes in the meaning of language in the expansion of meaning. The most frequently found causal factors are social and cultural change factors, then previous meaning associations and differences in areas of use. The three causal factors for the expansion of meaning with each data are as follows: 1) association factors totaling 3 data, namely in the words "goreng", "sampah", and "binatang"; 2) factors of differences in areas of use totaling 3 data, namely in the words or lexemes "najis", "receh/recehan", and "matang"; 3) social and cultural changes totaling 5 data, namely in the words "sepuh", "aman", "garing", "jompo", and "drama".The most common causative factors found are social and cultural change factors, then previous meaning associations and differences in fields of use.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat perubahan bahasa berupa perluasan makna antarpenutur bahasa Indonesia di media sosial X dalam kurun waktu Januari sampai Juli 2024. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan metode simak dan catat untuk mengumpulkan data dari interaksi penutur bahasa Indonesia. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan ada 11 data yang ditemukan telah mengalami perubahan makna bahasa dalam perluasan makna. Faktor penyebab yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah faktor perubahan sosial dan budaya, kemudian asosiasi makna sebelumnya dan perbedaan bidang penggunaan. Tiga faktor penyebab perluasan makna dengan masing-masing data adalah sebagai berikut: 1) faktor asosiasi yang berjumlah 3 data, yakni pada kata “goreng”, “sampah”, dan “binatang”; 2) faktor perbedaan bidang penggunaan yang berjumlah 3 data, yakni pada kata atau leksem “najis”, “receh/recehan”, dan “matang”; 3) perubahan sosial dan budaya yang berjumlah 5 data, yakni pada kata “sepuh”, “aman”, “garing”, “jompo”, dan “drama”. Representasi Guru dalam Pemberitaan Kasus Kekerasan Seksual di Media Kompas dan Tempo: Analisis Wacana Kritis
This study aims to examine the representation of teachers in the coverage of sexual violence cases in Kompas and Tempo media. The approach used is Critical Discourse Analysis Social Actor Approach from Theo van Leeuwen. Data and data sources are words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs in sexual violence news related to teachers and other social actors in Kompas and Tempo media. Data collection techniques are identification, classification, and analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is a form of exclusion found in the news in Kompas media in the form of passivation that eliminates certain social actors so as to direct readers to focus on the teacher's social actors. The form of inclusion found in Kompas media is in the form of differentiation, association, categorization, identification, and association which aims to show partiality to victims, and clarify the identity of the perpetrator, and represent sexual violence as a system problem, not a single problem. The forms of inclusion found in Tempo media are abstraction, determination and categorization which show partiality to victims as well as a form of media criticism of teachers and the government in order to create a safe educational environment.Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji representasi guru dalam pemberitaan kasus kekerasan seksual di media Kompas dan Tempo. Pendekatan yang digunakan yaitu Analisis Wacana Kritis (AWK) Social Actor Approach dari Theo van Leeuwen. Data dan sumber data yaitu kata, frasa, kalimat, hingga paragraf dalam berita kekerasan seksual yang berkaitan dengan guru dan aktor sosial lainnya di media Kompas dan Tempo. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa teknik identifikasi, klasifikasi, analisis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan bentuk eksklusi pada pemberitaan di media Kompas berupa pasivasi yang menghilangkan aktor sosial tertentu sehingga mengarahkan pembaca fokus kepada aktor sosial guru. Bentuk inklusi yang ditemukan pada media Kompas berupa diferensiasi, asosiasi, kategorisasi, identifikasi, dan asosiasi yang bertujuan untuk menunjukkan keberpihakan kepada korban, dan memperjelas identitas pelaku, serta merepresentasikan kekerasan seksual sebagai persoalan sistem, bukan persoalan tunggal. Bentuk inklusi yang ditemukan pada media Tempo berupa abstraksi, determinasi dan kategorisasi yang menunjukkan menunjukkan keberpihakan kepada korban sekaligus bentuk kritis media terhadap guru dan pemerintah agar terwujud lingkungan pendidikan yang aman
TOAFL.com: A CEFR-Based Simulation Platform for Learning Al-Arabiyah Lil Akadimiyah Among Indonesian Students
This study aims to analyze the application of Toafl.com as a simulation platform for learning Al-Arabiyah lil Akadimiyah based on CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) to support the Arabic language skills of students of the Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies Program (SII) Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) Yogyakarta. The research method uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation for half a semester. The subjects of this study were class 3B students of the Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies Program (SII) UNU Yogyakarta. The results of the study indicate that the application of Toafl.com can help students understand question patterns, improve linguistic skills, and help students understand various Arabic language skills, including Istima' (listening), Kalam (speaking), Qira'ah (reading), and Kitabah (writing), according to the CEFR level (A1-C2). In addition, Toafl.com is also able to provide direct feedback, making it an effective tool in identifying weaknesses and potential improvements in students' Arabic language skills. This study recommends a wider integration of Toafl.com into the Arabic language learning curriculum at the college level
