    Column Study on the Removal of Metals from Industrial Effluents using the Biomass Sargassum sp

    Heavy metals are ubiquitous environmental contaminants in industrialized societies. The presence of heavy metals in the environment is of major concern because of their toxicity, bio-accumulating tendency, threat to human life and the environment. Traditional methods have been used to remove heavy metals from effluent include chemical precipitation, chemical oxidation/reduction, ion exchange, electrochemical treatment, evaporation and filtration. Many of these methods are ineffective; resulting in low levels of metal ion removal and can also be economically inefficient. Biomass of brown marine macro algae is a renewable biological resource, which is available in large quantities and can form a good base for the development of biosorbent material. The work considered the parameters of the effluents and the experimental column model for the metal adsorption. Among the experimental model Thomas model fitted the column biosorption data well

    Now days, Compressors are widely used in gas gathering, gas processing, and gas storage, chemical and refining applications. Compressors are mounted on the Base frame to carry its weight, to maintain its alignment and to assist in carrying the dynamic loads. Compressors base frame needs an effective design technology to ensure its required performance and functions satisfactorily. This paper represents a case study of the compressor base frame on which high speed reciprocating compressors are mounted. Attempts are basically made to standardize base frame for all type of piston compressor. Also, to design deck systems with effective vibration control, which able to sustain the dynamic forces occur in compressor and motor. Secondarily, anti vibration mounts can be select and arranged as they control the vibration of motor and compressor. By using FEA tool approach is made for the investigations of critical stresses. Also, to plot the harmonic responses of the base frame for acceleration with which it vibrate. Finally compare it with the standard data

    REMOVAL OF ELECTRODE MOTION ARTIFACT IN ECG SIGNALS USING WAVELET BASED THRESHOLD METHODS WITH GREY INCIDENCE DEGREE

    Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most frequent and dangerous problems in modern society in nowadays. Unfortunately electrocardiograms (ECG) signals, during their acquisition process, are affected by various types of noise and artifacts due to the movement, or breathing of the patient, electrode contact, power-line interferences, etc. The aim of this study was to develop an algorithm to remove electrode motion artifact in ECG signals. Donoho and Johnstone proposed Wavelet thresholding de-noising method based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is suitable for non-stationary signals. The wavelet transform coefficient is processed by using grey relation analysis of the grey theory, and a new wavelet threshold method namely wavelet threshold method with grey incidence degree (GID) (or the GID threshold method) based is introduced. It shows that the signal smoothness and similarity of the two signal criteria have been greatly improved by the GID threshold method compared with existing threshold methods. According to the characteristics of different ECG signals, GID threshold method gets better results than it can adaptively deal with noise separation and details remaining of the two opposing signal problems, so as to provide a better choice for wavelet threshold methods of signal processing. Performance analysis was performed by evaluating Mean Square Error (MSE), Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and visual inspection over the denoised signal from each algorithm. The experimental result shows that GID hard shrinkage method with sub-band or level dependent thresholding gives the best denoising performance on ECG signal. The result shows that soft threshold not always gives better denoising performance; it depends on which wavelet thresholding algorithm was chosen

    ULTRASONIC ASSISTED CASTING OF ALUMINUM MATRIX COMPOSITE

    In this study, we have investigated the effect of ultrasonic stirring in aluminium matrix composite (A359 + 20 vol % SiC ) with the reinforcement of 1 mole % of carbon black. Melting experiments were performed by employing four different conditions. These were – carbon black addition accompanied with mechanical stirring, carbon black addition accompanied with ultrasonic stirring, ultrasonic stirring but no carbon black addition and control specimen (without ultrasonic stirring and no carbon black addition). Hardness comparisons between the samples casted at different condition were made. Sample which was ultrasonically treated (UST) and carbon inoculated had higher hardness than a sample which was neither ultrasonically treated nor carbon black inoculated and the samples which was either ultrasonically treated or carbon inoculated. Microstructure study revealed that a sample which was ultrasonically treated had fine dendrite structure and more uniform distribution of SiC particles than the other samples. Porosity was observed with those samples which were not ultrasonically treated. Al4SiC4 particles were observed but Al4C3 particles weren’t observed

    CONTROL AND ESTIMATION OF BIOLOGICAL SIGNALS (ECG) USING ADAPTIVE SYSTEM

    In this paper, we present a simple and efficient adaptive noise removal technique for de-noising the (ECG) signal. There are different techniques earlier used for de-noising the ECG signal ,adaptive filtration like least mean square (LMS), NLMS, BLMS , etc. In this paper we used recursive least square technique for adaptive filtration. The power line noises have been implemented according to their basic properties. After that, these noises have been mixed with ECG signal and nullify these noises using the LMS,NLMS and the RLS algorithms. Finally a performance study has been done between these algorithms based on their parameters and also discussed the effect of filter length and the corresponding signal to noise ratio. Results indicate that the noises cannot be handled by the LMS filtering whereas the RLS can handle these types of noises. Furthermore, most of the cases the RLS has achieved best effective noise cancellation performance although its computation time is slightly high. One such start-up is DOODH SAGAR from Berhampur of state odisha winning thousand hearts by its product and service and also solving the problem of nature. PROFILE OF THE BUSINESS:-DOODH SAGAR is owned by Surendra Nath and is located at Berhampur, a start-up in the state of odisha, established in 2017. It has been into the business of supplying farm fresh organic cow milk and hydroponic grass for cows. It provides livelihood to 50 farmers around the location and 15-20 employees are working under this business. Right now it is catering 1300 litre milk per day to more than 1000 customers. The business started with a capital of 6 lakh and now getting around 15 lakh per month as its revenue. This dairy business incubated at KIIT-TBI. UNIQUENESS OF THE BUSINESS DOODH SAGAR is a successful start-up which is winning the hearts of people with fresh and organic milk. It procures milk from the farmers and supplies it to the customer. This dairy business sells the natural cow milk with an affordable price i.e RS 44 per litre to its customer. It receives the booking through call and whatsapp and supply the milk packed by glass bottles which indicates how much importance it gives to hygiene. They are delivering milk by own vehicles. This is not using any strategy of marketing for publicity still it reached to a large audience by its unique implementation. Nowadays cows are not easily getting food and they often face accidents while searching grass. One of the key attractions is it decided to cultivate the hydroponic grass to feed the cows. While grass needs 2 months to cultivate, Doodh Sagar cultivates grass within 8 days only by using mineral nutrients solutions in a water solvent within a good environment. So, this is the uniqueness of this farm that, it not only save the live of cows by feeding hydroponic grass but also provides fresh and natural milk to the customer. MOTIVATION FOR THE BUSINESS: Surendra Nath, the young entrepreneur is a B.tech certified student who has the corporate experience for a long period. To fulfil his father’s dream he returned to Berhampur and tried to start something from his city as his father wanted. He admires his father so much and motivated by his fathers’ guidance to start a business along with the support of his elder brother. He was pulled out by his friends from financial and business downcast. Family and friends are the backbone of his success story. “There is nothing like right time to start... Now is the best time for everything. So whatever you want to do, do it now” said by the entrepreneur.     Single row layout is one of the most usually used layout patterns in industries, particularly in flexible manufacturing systems. Here actual sequencing of machine and arrangement of parts, no doubt, have a great influence on the throughput of the flexible manufacturing system i.e., (F.M.S). This paper discusses the single row layout design in flexible manufacturing system (F.M.S). This paper furnishes the design, development and testing of simulated annealing technique and genetic algorithm to solve the single row layout problem by considering multi-objective i.e., minimizing the make span of jobs on all machines and minimizing the total transportation cost. The various line layout problems are tested for performance of objective function with respect to computational time and number of iterations involved in GA and SA. A necessary code is generated in C++ and the code is run by the IDE tool in which C++ compiler used as plug in. This tool has Eclipse based features which affords the competency to figure, correct, steer, and sort out the tasks that use C++ as a programming language using Intel core i3-380M processor. The results of the different optimization algorithms (Genetic Algorithm and simulated annealing method) are compared and finally, we observed that GA provide optimum results than SA

    Comparative Performance of Elevated Isolated Liquid Storage Tanks (With Shaft Staging)

    Liquid storage tanks are important components of lifeline and industrial facilities. They are critical elements in water supply scheme and fire fighting system, and extensively used for storage and processing of variety of liquid like material such as petroleum product, liquefied natural gas, chemical fluid and wastage of different forms. In this paper, the seismic response of base isolated cylindrical liquid storage tanks is investigated under real earthquake ground motion. The isolation systems considered is elastomeric bearings (without lead core), the specific objectives of the study are to carry out the comparative performance of the tanks with isolation and without isolation (i.e. Fixed tanks) also to investigate the response of the tanks for varying capacity with varying heights. For this study forty tanks of varying heights such as 8m,10m,11m,11.5m,12.5m,14m,16m with varying capacities of 500kl,265kl,200kl,100kl,50kl are considered. For this a time history analysis has been carried out by using a three time history of varying magnitude with varying peak ground acceleration. It is observed that the base shear of elevated liquid storage tanks supported on shaft is significantly reduced due to isolation. The drift of the tank relation to base of shaft is also significantly reduced due to isolation. The earthquake response of isolated short tanks is relatively more, i.e. Isolation is not effective for stiffer shafts, and however in general, the effectiveness of base isolation is achieved for tall tanks. Although the effectiveness of seismic isolation increases with the increase of bearing flexibility and damping these properties needs to be modified for desired response
