The Impact of ChatGPT on Reducing Anxiety and Enhancing Mathematical Performance
No full textRecent advancements in technology have paved the way for the integration of artificial intelligence in education, with tools such as ChatGPT supporting learners across grade levels and disciplines, including mathematics. While numerous existing studies have investigated the potential of ChatGPT in enhancing students’ performance in mathematics, there is still much to explore regarding its possible impact on reducing one of the key factors hindering student success in math: math anxiety. This study examined the impact of using ChatGPT in addressing math anxiety and improving the performance of Grade 11 non-STEM students enrolled at De La Salle University Senior High School. Specifically, it aimed to determine whether the use of ChatGPT could contribute to reduced anxiety and enhanced academic performance. Utilizing a purposive sampling technique, the study adopted a quasi-experimental method, administering a survey, pre-test, and post-test to 30 students. The collected quantitative data were analyzed using mean differences, standard deviations, t-values, p-values, and significance levels. The results indicate that the use of AI tools—specifically ChatGPT—significantly mitigates students’ math anxiety and enhances their performance in Algebra lessons involving word problems. These findings suggest that integrating ChatGPT into classroom instruction holds considerable potential for fostering a more supportive and effective learning environment in mathematics
NASAAN NA TAYO SA PAGSULONG?: IMPLEMENTATION PRACTICES OF LUZONG NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ON THE GENDER-RESPONSIVE BASIC EDUCATION POLICY IN RELATION TO LEARNERS’ DEVELOPMENT
No full textGender-responsive education ensures that learners, regardless of gender, have equal opportunities and promotes gender equality in educational outcomes. The implementation of the Gender-Responsive Basic Education (GRBE) Policy at Luzong National High School was assessed to evaluate its influence on learners\u27 knowledge, attitudes, and social skills. It aimed to assess how GRBE practices in curriculum standards, learning delivery, learning environment, and learning resources promote inclusivity and development. A descriptive-correlational design was used, gathering data from 255 learners, 12 teaching personnel, and three non-teaching personnel through a validated 5-point likert scale questionnaire. The study found that the GRBE practices were consistently implemented across all domains, with respondents rating the policy as Practiced in every area. Positive correlations were identified between the policy’s implementation and improvements in learner outcomes, particularly in the areas of critical thinking, equity awareness, and enhanced social interactions. Curriculum standards and learning delivery had the strongest influence on learners\u27 knowledge and attitudes, while a gender-responsive learning environment significantly improved their social skills. The study concluded that the effective application of the GRBE policies at Luzong National High School serves as a model for advancing gender-responsive education. However, challenges such as limited resources and inadequate policy implementation were noted, emphasizing the need for targeted capacity-building initiatives and continuous monitoring to further strengthen DepEd Order No. 32, s. 2017. The study highlights the importance of refining GRBE strategies to sustain progress toward gender equality in education and suggests areas for future research to address remaining gaps
The Power of Influence: A Thematic Analysis of TikTok Content on Restaurant Perceptions
No full textWith the massive rise in popularity that social media has gained in recent years, platforms like TikTok have experienced exponential growth. The search interest for TikTok has increased by a staggering 227% in the past five years (Howarth, 2024). As TikTok’s short-form content dominates the digital space, product and restaurant reviews have become a staple on users’ “For You” pages. Despite this trend, there is limited research on how food influencers shape public perception through persuasive speech. This study addresses that gap by using thematic analysis to examine the rhetorical strategies employed by influencers in TikTok restaurant reviews. The research aims to (1) identify recurring themes in persuasive strategies (2) analyze the use of specific phrases that enhance persuasion and viewer engagement, and (3) understand why audiences often prioritize influencer opinions over their own. With the help of Aristotle’s Rhetorical Theory of Persuasion, the study analyzed selected videos and identified eight key themes, including the use of “Taglish,” use of exaggeration, Casual and Conversational tone, affordability, and comparison and justification. Results indicate pathos (appeal to emotions) as the most common rhetorical device, followed by logos (reason) and ethos (credibility). These rhetorical tactics promote audience engagement, increase engagement, and emphasize the influencers\u27 persuasiveness. Finally, the research concludes that TikTok influencers are prominent in framing consumer attitudes by using emotionally charged and strategically framed communication, thus being influential figures in online food marketing
Modal auxiliary verbs in Philippine English press: A corpus-based analysis
No full textThis study investigates the frequencies and semantics of nine central modals and eleven quasi-modals in the Philippine English press using a corpus-based approach. Drawing on a self-collected corpus of 2022 press articles from five major news agencies and six news categories, a tripartite semantic framework was employed to analyze modal auxiliary usage across deontic, epistemic, and dynamic domains. While overall frequency patterns in PhE press largely align with trends observed in established AmE and BrE supervarieties, several notable deviations were observed. Among modals of necessity and obligation, must has seen a sharp decline to a frequency now paralleling that of need to, whereas should has become the primary carrier of both deontic and epistemic meanings. Conversely, have to exhibits a weaker deontic presence compared to previous findings. Among modals of possibility, permission, and ability, can remains the predominant marker for dynamic modality, and may exhibits trends that suggest that it’s heading toward an increasingly monosemic epistemic interpretation. Sonication-assisted osmotic shock for the decellularization of porcine skin for tissue engineering applications
No full textDecellularization hinges on two fundamental, often conflicting, priorities: complete cell removal and the preservation of extracellular matrix (ECM) structure and components. While ionic and nonionic detergents are frequently employed for efficient cell removal, they can compromise ECM structure and leave cytotoxic residues. This study presents a detergent-free, sonication-assisted approach to decellularization, aiming to balance effective cell removal with the preservation of ECM integrity. Epidermis were subjected to alternating hypertonic and hypotonic solutions, along with sonication at 60 W, 120 W, and 180 W in a bath-type sonicator. Results revealed that lower sonication power (60 W) was more effective in decellularizing porcine skin, demonstrating 84.54% reduction in cellular debris, compared to 25.76% and 70.71% reductions for 120 W and 180 W, respectively, as it maintained a favorable balance between cellular disruption and ECM preservation. Hematoxylin and eosin staining results indicated that excessive sonication intensity led to significant ECM damage, resulting in a denser matrix that retained cellular debris. Moreover, Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier-Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) Spectroscopy revealed characteristic amide-associated bands indicating protein and collagen presence, with treated samples exhibiting increased transmittance, suggesting alterations in functional group concentration and protein structure. Although increasing sonication power enhanced cellular disruption, it also induced excessive cavitation, which compromised ECM integrity. This study demonstrates the potential of a novel, detergent-free decellularization method that effectively removes cells while preserving the structural integrity of the extracellular matrix, offering significant advancements in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine
Fostering Vocabulary Enhancement through Quizizz: A Perspective on Digital Gamification

Drawing on Self-Determination Theory and Krashen’s Affective Filter Hypothesis, it analyzes how game elements—such as immediate feedback, point-based competition, and accessible design—satisfy learners\u27 psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness, enhancing intrinsic motivation and reducing anxiety. Synthesizing insights from recent empirical studies and pedagogical practice, the paper demonstrates that Quizizz promotes both learner engagement and vocabulary retention. It also identifies gaps in the literature regarding cognitive depth, emotional engagement, and the sustainability of vocabulary gains. The discussion concludes with pedagogical recommendations and calls for future longitudinal and mixed-methods research to optimize gamification strategies in language education. This paper advances current scholarship by demonstrating how integrating gamified platforms like Quizizz within learner-centered pedagogical frameworks can promote intrinsic motivation, lower affective filters, and foster deeper vocabulary learning
Rekindling Cultural Legacy: The Interplay of 4S Brand Gestalt Dimensions, Repurchase Intention, and Customer Citizenship Behavior for a Sustainable Traditional Product
Get PDFDespite the growing emphasis on the role of brand gestalt in marketing research, a discernible gap persists in empirical investigations regarding the interplay among brand gestalt, repurchase intention (RI), and customer citizenship behavior (CCB). More precisely, existing studies have yet to delve into the importance of brand gestalt within the distinctive context of traditional products and crafts. Focusing its investigative lens on Noken, a sustainable traditional woven bag with roots in Papua, Indonesia, this study seeks to deepen the understanding of the interplay between brand gestalt and customer behaviors in the context of a cherished traditional product. A research design employing an explanatory causal approach was used, involving the gathering of primary data through a self-administered online survey. This survey gathered responses from 302 individuals in the Papua region of Indonesia who regularly wear and use the Noken in their daily activities. The acquired quantitative data underwent a thorough partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to rigorously test the hypotheses and address the research questions. The findings of this study underscore a significant and positive influence of brand gestalt on repurchase intention. Furthermore, it is revealed that the dimensions constituting the brand gestalt wield a significant and positive influence on shaping CCB. The outcomes of this study illuminate the potential for leveraging brand gestalt to enhance customer engagement, loyalty, and active participation within the context of traditional products, thereby laying a foundation for strategic decision-making and future academic investigations. This study offers the inaugural empirical evidence that explores the multidimensional impact of brand gestalt on both RI and CCB within the realm of traditional products

This case study used qualitative techniques to establish the networks and analyze the dynamics and interactions between the local sugar industry leaders and beverage manufacturing companies, as well as their advocacy strategies that influenced policy brokers from the government. The paper also highlights the complexities and the delicate balance needed to reconcile the differing interests of well-established political and economic groups and their effects on policy formulation. Their interactions were examined through the ACF, a tool that has been used to study existing tensions between and among stakeholders in the policy arena

No full textGlobalization has significantly impacted economies worldwide, including the Philippines, presenting both opportunities and challenges. In the Philippine context, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are vital economic drivers, generating employment and fostering enterprise activity. Despite their importance, MSMEs often face systemic barriers such as limited capital, restricted market access, and insufficient institutional support. This study, grounded in Sarasvathy’s Effectuation Theory—which emphasizes leveraging existing means, minimizing risks, forming partnerships, and embracing uncertainty—investigates how Filipino micro-entrepreneurs navigate decision-making under resource constraints. Unlike traditional predictive models, effectuation is more suited to uncertain environments. This research examines Filipino entrepreneurial experiences that would validate effectuation principles Filipino micro-entrepreneurs apply and whether new, culturally rooted principles emerge. Using a phenomenological qualitative approach, the study conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with five successful MSMEs in Laguna. Thematic analysis, facilitated by NVivo software, revealed six lived experience themes - personal, social, strategic, psychological, emotional, and situational influences - that validated the application of all effectuation principles: Bird-in-Hand, Affordable Loss, Crazy Quilt, Lemonade, and Pilot-in-the-Plane. Bird-in-Hand and Affordable Loss were dominant during the enterprises’ early stages, while Crazy Quilt and Lemonade played key roles in adaptation and scaling. Beyond these, participants also displayed context-specific strategies coded in this study as “Gold-in-the-Chest” for inheritance and “Power-of-the-Cross, ” for faith reflecting uniquely Filipino values. These findings enrich the current understanding of effectuation by incorporating localized insights. The study affirms the relevance of effectual logic in developing economies and highlights the need to integrate such frameworks into entrepreneurship education and policy to support resilient, opportunity-focused MSMEs
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Gravimetric Analysis of Protein Denaturation in Egg Albumen Treated with Colocasia Esculenta L. Schott (Taro) Leaf Extract
No full textProtein misfolding is one of the leading factors contributing to the development of neurodegenerative diseases. Limited remedies exist, focusing on symptomatic relief, leading to plant-derived compounds gaining attention for their protein-stabilizing potential. The study aims to determine taro leaf extract\u27s effect on egg albumen proteins through infrared spectroscopy to evaluate protein structural change and gravimetric analysis to measure protein denaturation. Four concentrations (12.5, 25, 50, and 100%) were tested against a positive control (diclofenac sodium) and a negative control (distilled water), with all groups containing egg albumen. Significant shifts in the Amide I and II bands revealed lower wavelengths in 100% extract (1630.45 cm⁻¹ and 1539.46 cm⁻¹) compared to diclofenac sodium (1632.92 cm⁻¹ and 1541.58 cm⁻¹) and distilled water (1635.85 cm⁻¹ and 1549.08 cm⁻¹), indicating that 100% had the most structural change of proteins in egg albumen. One-way ANOVA for gravimetric analysis yielded a p-value of 7.11E-05, indicating significance between groups. Tukey\u27s HSD post hoc test showed significance between 100% and concentrations (12, 25, and 50%) with p-values of 0.013, 0.016, and 0.017, suggesting distinct aggregation compared to lower concentrations, and none with controls having p-values of 0.149 and 0.584, reinforcing the extract\u27s coagulative role rather than prevention through an anti-inflammatory effect like diclofenac sodium. Findings suggest that taro leaf extract induces protein structural shifts, conversely to preventing misfolding and promoting stabilization, highlighting its opposite role in protein-protein interactions. Further investigation is needed to explore its broader protein application, providing insights into aggressive misfolding in early-onset neurodegenerative diseases
