Examining the struggle for a more inclusive identity and the early advocacy of multiculturalism in Canada
The paper focuses on the struggle for equal recognition within Canadian identity by non-charter citizens. These groups, by rejecting the idea of Canada as solely bilingual and bicultural, successfully challenged government efforts to replace Anglo-conformity with a bicultural model. As a compromise, Canada adopted the notion of "multiculturalism within a bilingual framework.” This approach helped promote a more inclusive national identity and contributed to the creation of a peaceful, tolerant, and unified society. For many ethnic communities, particularly visible minorities, it marked progress in removing barriers to full integration. The inclusive environment also supported advances in LGBTQ and Indigenous rights, including acknowledgment of the historical injustices faced by First Nations peoples. As a result, Canada has adopted an innovative approach to inclusivity by creating a new national identity that embraces both diversity and bilingualism
Sustainable Economy and Green Development Challenges in ASEAN
This study examined the challenges of developing a sustainable economy and promoting green development in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) through a comprehensive literature review. ASEAN has experienced rapid economic growth over recent decades; however, this growth has been accompanied by increasing environmental degradation, climate vulnerability, and social inequality. These conditions have intensified the need for development pathways that balance economic progress with environmental protection and social inclusion. By synthesizing academic studies, policy documents, and reports from international and regional institutions, this study identified the key factors shaping sustainable economy outcomes in the ASEAN region. The findings revealed that environmental pressures, including climate change impacts, pollution, and resource depletion, pose significant risks to long-term economic stability. Economic and financial constraints, such as high costs of green technologies, limited access to green finance, and dependence on carbon-intensive industries, further hinder green development efforts. Institutional and governance challenges, including fragmented policymaking, weak regulatory enforcement, and uneven implementation of regional initiatives, were also found to limit progress. In addition, social dimensions particularly employment transitions, inequality, and limited public participation play a critical role in determining the inclusiveness and effectiveness of green development strategies. While ASEAN regional cooperation frameworks demonstrate strong collective commitment to sustainability, their impact remains constrained by varying national capacities and the principle of non-interference. Overall, this study highlights the need for integrated policy approaches, strengthened institutional capacity, inclusive social strategies, and enhanced regional cooperation to advance a sustainable economy and green development in ASEAN
An Innovation Communication Process for the Transformation of Coastal Women in the Lembeh Islands
Women's communication styles generally have distinctive characteristics, such as being emotionally expressive, frequently using body language, tending to avoid direct confrontation, communicating in detail, using indirect language, and actively listening. The quality of this communication is greatly influenced by the resources and environment in which they operate. In the past, women were often considered a weaker group than men. However, today, they have proven capable of making significant contributions in various aspects of life. In today's digital context, the spirit of women's emancipation is growing stronger. Women are seen as equal to men, especially in terms of their roles and contributions through communication. Women in urban areas tend to use modern communication styles, while women in island regions still maintain conventional communication styles that are slowly transforming through innovation. This study found that the conventional communication model of coastal women is still rooted in traditional social systems, namely direct communication between individuals in the context of daily activities, such as business transactions for products caught by fishermen. However, modern developments have encouraged innovation, where coastal women have begun processing seafood into attractively packaged dried food products and marketing them through digital platforms. Digital media, including dedicated websites, have become a means of transforming communication styles and empowering coastal women to respond creatively and adaptively to social and economic changes
Differences in Knowledge of Exclusive Breastfeeding Among Postpartum Working Mothers Who Received and Did Not Receive Education in the Working Area of Darussalam Public Health Center, Medan City, North Sumatra, Indonesia
The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia remains suboptimal, particularly among postpartum working mothers who face time constraints and limited knowledge. Personalized Breastfeeding Education (PBE) has emerged as a potential strategy to enhance understanding and improve exclusive breastfeeding practices. This study aimed to determine the difference in knowledge levels regarding exclusive breastfeeding between postpartum working mothers who received and did not receive breastfeeding education in the working area of Darussalam Public Health Center, Medan City. A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pre-test–post-test design was conducted involving 140 postpartum working mothers, divided into an intervention group (n=70) and a control group (n=70). The intervention consisted of individual counseling, educational videos, diary books, and interactive discussions conducted over six months. Knowledge was assessed using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with independent t-tests and paired t-tests, with a significance level of p<0.05. There was a significant difference in knowledge scores between the intervention and control groups at the first week, third month, and sixth month (p=0.001). Furthermore, a significant increase in knowledge scores was observed within the intervention group before and after receiving the education (p=0.001). Personalized breastfeeding education was proven effective in increasing postpartum working mothers’ knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. Multimodal and context-based interventions should be integrated into maternal health services to support the success of exclusive breastfeeding practices
The Effect of Video Games on Language Vocabulary Among Iraqi Elementary Students
This study attempted to investigate the phenomenal issue of video games that play a vital role to improve and expand students' vocabulary knowledge via the use of such soft wares. The variables considered in this study include level of English language proficiency and IT proficiency. The sample of the study consisted of 48 male ESL students of English in two Baghdad schools, Iraq. Besides, their age ranged from seven to ten. In order to make sure that the participants were at the same level of language proficiency, the researcher administered a proficiency test to the subjects. Two classes were randomly selected as the samples of the study. These two groups included the control and experimental, each of which approximately comprised the same number of participants. The data were collected by self-made vocabulary tests whose reliability and validity are compared with those of standard ones. The games and their corresponding guides were obtained from Learn English Kids’ package of British Council. In order to measure the learners’ progress in vocabulary acquisition, the pretest-posttest experimental design was applied. The results of the current study showed that the learners in the experimental group obtained higher scores than the learners in the control group. Furthermore, the results provided evidence of statistically significant relationship between the vocabulary scores of participants with high computer familiarity and those with low computer familiarity
