Civil Servant Behavior Towards Public Service Compliance: A case study in Makassar City
This study examines the behavior of civil servants toward compliance in public service delivery within the bureaucratic framework of Makassar City. Employing a qualitative literature review approach, the research synthesizes contemporary studies published between 2015 and 2024 to analyze how professionalism, ethics, leadership, and organizational culture collectively shape compliance behavior in Indonesia’s public sector. The findings reveal that compliance is not solely a function of regulatory enforcement but rather a product of moral internalization, professional competence, and ethical leadership. Bureaucratic structures characterized by hierarchy and procedural rigidity tend to produce formal rather than substantive compliance, emphasizing rule adherence over ethical responsibility. Conversely, environments that foster trust, reflective leadership, and participatory accountability cultivate intrinsic motivation among civil servants to uphold public service values. The review further underscores that training, merit-based human resource systems, and digital transparency mechanisms are essential in transforming compliance from a rule-bound duty into a professional ethos. Theoretical implications highlight the need for management scholars to reconceptualize compliance as an evolving moral capability shaped by institutional culture and leadership ethics. Practically, the study recommends integrated reform strategies that balance regulatory control with ethical empowerment and community engagement. Ultimately, sustainable compliance in Makassar’s bureaucracy and comparable governance contexts depends on embedding integrity and professionalism within the managerial core of public administration, aligning bureaucratic systems with the ethical aspirations of democratic governance

The Political Dynamics of Women in the Democratic Party in Gowa Regency
This study investigates the dynamics of women's political power within the Democratic Party in Gowa Regency, aiming to explore their evolving roles and the implications for leadership and policy-making. It highlights the growing political participation of women despite persistent structural and cultural barriers such as gender stereotypes and limited access to resources. Using a qualitative approach with triangulated data collection and inductive analysis, the research found that the Democratic Party actively fosters female engagement through initiatives like Garda Perempuan (Women’s Guard), leadership training, and inclusive organizational structures. While women hold strategic importance as the majority of voters, their representation in parliament remains limited and often symbolic. The study concludes that increased participation has yet to significantly influence policy outcomes, which are still dominated by male perspectives. Challenges such as internalized stigma, lack of confidence, and tokenism persist. Nevertheless, female politicians in Gowa have demonstrated strong leadership in community empowerment, disaster response, and public education. The research underscores the need for structural party support, cultural transformation, and capacity-building strategies to move beyond quota-based representation toward substantive gender equality in political leadership

From Subjugation to Subversion: Power and Resistance in Leo the African
This article explores the themes of power and resistance in postcolonial novels set in Islamic Spain, focusing on the historical and cultural dynamics between Muslims in Al-Andalus and Spaniards. The analysis is grounded in critical discourse theory, particularly Foucauldian perspectives on power, knowledge, and resistance. The study investigates how Moorish identity, shaped by hybridity and fluidity, challenges binary oppositions and Orientalist portrayals. The protagonist of Leo the African, Hassan al-Wazzan, serves as a key example of how cultural power structures are navigated and contested, both in Islamic and Christian contexts. The article highlights how language and discourse function as tools for both domination and subversion, offering a more nuanced understanding of Moorish identity and history. Al-Wazzan’s identity, shaped by multiple cultural affiliations, embodies resistance within liminal spaces, challenging rigid definitions and providing a critique of colonial and contemporary discourses. The study emphasizes the importance of re-examining historical narratives and the role of discourse in shaping knowledge, identities, and social relations. By reconsidering the marginalization of Moors in dominant historical narratives, this research advocates for a more inclusive understanding of cultural and historical identities, particularly in postcolonial discourse

The Anticancer Potential of Nelumbo Nucifera Leaves in Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review of Molecular and Experimental Studies
Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent malignancies globally, and resistance to standard therapies such as tamoxifen and trastuzumab poses significant treatment challenges. Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) leaves contain bioactive compounds, including kaempferol, quercetin, and neferine, which exhibit promising anticancer properties through multi-target mechanisms. This review aims to synthesize preclinical evidence on the anticancer potential of lotus leaves and compare their effectiveness and molecular pathways with other herbal extracts tested in breast cancer models. A narrative review of studies published between 2015 and 2024 was performed using PubMed and ResearchGate databases. Eligible studies included in vitro, in vivo, or silico models evaluating lotus leaves or related herbal extracts against breast cancer. The selection process adhered to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Lotus leaf extracts demonstrated approximately 85% inhibition of migration and metastasis in breast cancer models via multiple pathways, including TGF-β/SMAD, ERK, PI3K/Akt, and apoptotic signaling. These effects were validated in xenograft and metastatic models and, in some cases, surpassed the efficacy of standard agents. Comparatively, Nymphaea mexicana achieved the highest inhibition (~88%) but lacked detailed mechanistic data, while lotus seedpod extract (80%) showed activity against radioresistant models via DNA repair inhibition. Lotus leaves exhibit potent and broad-spectrum anticancer activity through multi-pathway mechanisms, positioning them as promising candidates for integrative breast cancer therapy. Further research should prioritize standardized extract preparation, dose–response studies, and clinical validation to translate preclinical findings into therapeutic applications
The Effect of Teacher Pedagogic Competence, Intensity of Parental Guidance, and Parents' Socio-Economic Status on Learning Outcomes Through Students' Learning Motivation
This research aims to determine and analyze the influence of teacher pedagogical competence, intensity of parental guidance, and parents' socio-economic status on learning outcomes through student learning motivation at SMP Negeri 1 Atinggola in social studies subjects. This research uses a quantitative approach. The sample in this study was students at SMP Negeri 1 Atinggola for the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 108 students. Samples were taken using the stratified proportional random sampling method. The research results show that several independent variables have a significant effect on learning outcomes, both directly and indirectly through learning motivation as a mediating variable. Directly, learning motivation has been proven to have a positive and significant influence on student learning outcomes. Likewise, the intensity of parental guidance and socio-economic status have a significant and positive direct influence on learning outcomes. Meanwhile, teacher pedagogical competence actually has a negative but significant direct influence on learning outcomes, which shows the potential for indirect influence through learning motivation. In the indirect route, teacher pedagogical competence and the intensity of parental guidance have a positive and significant effect on student learning outcomes through increasing learning motivation. However, socio-economic status did not show a significant indirect effect through learning motivation. These findings confirm that learning motivation plays an important role as a mediator in the relationship between teacher competence and parental guidance and student learning outcomes. Therefore, efforts to improve student learning outcomes can be focused on strengthening learning motivation through improving the quality of teaching and parental involvement
