    How do Soil Salt Solutions Affect the Growth of Wisconsin Fast Plants

    Excess salt in soils can hinder plant growth by interfering with water uptake leading to nutrient imbalances and plant death. We measured several parameters such as height, leaf size, and biomass of the mustard, Brassica rapa. Preliminary results did not reveal a consistent growth response across treatments. After collecting the data, we observed that salt negatively impacted the growth in both the 2 ppt and 15 ppt treatments. However, the 10 ppt treatment was an outlier, showing no apparent negative effects on growth despite the salt being applied.​Biological SciencesC.Eric, Hellquis

    Examination of radio emission changes in pulsar PSR J1713+0747

    Pulsars are one type of neutron star that emits a beam of electromagnetic radiation with a rate proportional to their rotational speed. This rotational speed can be measured with a precision of up to 10^{-15} seconds. This precision and stability makes pulsars prime candidates for the search for nanohertz gravitational waves. The goal of this research project is to examine radio data of the recycled pulsar PSR J1713+0747 observed with the Green Bank Telescope (GBT). This pulsar is one of the leading objects used for the search for nanohertz gravitational waves. We examine single pulse data which contains individual rotations of the pulsar. We compile the average emission of this pulsar (known as profile emission) to extract the emission windows of single pulses. We extract the arrival times of single pulses to search for indicators of timing deviations. That way, we are investigating whether recent emission mode changes in the case of this pulsar can be predicted in advance to account for during gravitational wave searches.Physics and Astronomical SciencesLewandowska, Natali

    This thesis explores the quiet tensions and emotional distance within the domestic space through a series of black-and-white photographs taken in my family home. The work examines themes of belonging, identity, and the transformation of familial relationships over time. Without using self-portraiture, I present this series through a first-person point of view - everything is seen through my eyes, not as a member of the family unit, but as an observer, a stranger within the house. Through still portraits of my parents, details of ordinary rooms, and the quiet movements of my cat, the photographs trace the emotional shifts that occur within spaces that once felt familiar.     Ballet sets the tone for what dance is; not only is it the first style people think of and see, but it also holds the foundation a dancer needs for every other style of dance. Unfortunately, there is much systemic oppression in the professional ballet world. When black ballet dancers were featured for the first time as premiere ballerinas in the 1930's-50's, they were made to powder their skin, to have it appear lighter (Jacolb, J). There are still extremely recent findings of a gender wage gap among artistic directors in the top 50 largest ballet companies (Dancedata).     In the perspective of the average Pokémon card collector, the coronavirus pandemic created a long lasting impact on the card market that would make it increasingly difficult to obtain cards at the time. There were various factors that contributed to the difficulty in obtaining cards, such as influencers to make the hobby become appealing to those that were not already collecting, and supplies that are used to make these cards dwindling down because of the pandemic.
