Get PDFIn my essay, Nature's Beauty, I describe my inspiration and the evolution of my work, both in concept and in terms of the process I use to create my series of paintings for my thesis show. I embrace a freeform painting style that reflects my emotional connection to nature and my Mexican heritage. I work wet-on-wet, allowing the paint to move organically and allowing me to interpret it in my own way. Rather than striving for realism, I focus on emotion, memory, and experimentation, often drawing from photographs and personal experiences. Since beginning my journey at Purchase, my approach to painting has transformed. I've become more relaxed and playful, welcoming mistakes and distorting shapes to make my work feel more alive. Missing in the Middle: Analysis of the Under Representation of South East Asian Women in U.S Television
Get PDFU.S. television grants Indian women fewer than one percent of speaking roles, and those rare appearances typically recycle a narrow pair of tropes: the over-achieving, socially awkward professional or the exotic side character. Drawing on cultivation theory, self-perception theory, framing analysis, and Kimberlé – Crenshaw's intersectionality, this paper examines how such scarcity and stereotype translate into self-discrimination: a pattern of internalized doubt and narrowed career aspiration among Indian-American women. Findings show that symbolic annihilation on the screen fosters an identity crisis. It reduces interest in non-STEM careers, and reinforces colorist hierarchies by favoring light-skinned Indian actresses. The paper argues that these outcomes are not incidental but stem from industry gatekeeping that frames Indian-female narratives as commercially risky. A paleontologic analysis of the Port Jervis formation
No full textThis paper will describe fauna seen in the Port Jervis Formation, located near the New York and New Jersey Border. The lithology of the Port Jervis Formation is an argillaceous limestone, including a trilobite-rich bed containing the index fossil Nanothyris subglobosa. The Port Jervis Formation sits on top of the Port Ewen Formation and below the Glenerie Formation, all being Lower Devonian in age. There is a major unconformity called the Wallbridge Unconformity that is in between the Port Jervis and the Glenerie. There is exceptional fossil preservation in the Port Jervis Formation, containing multitudes of brachiopods and trilobites. These fossil specimens will be reclassified, along with prepared and drawn in order to better understand their taxonomy and morphology. Methods used in the laboratory include preparing fossil specimens and dissolving carbonate rocks for conodonts. This paper aims to describe the events that deposited these formations and describe fossil specimens.
