Starbucks Effect in Manhattan
New York City is full of Starbuck's cafes but do these cafes impact more than just our mood and daily routine. Starbucks cafes effect is correlated with changes in a neighborhood; these changes can include changes in rent and home value. This study analyzes the possible impact of the number of Starbucks cafes in a zip code on median gross rent and home value in Manhattan. We found that there was a slight impact on median gross rent but not statistically significant enough, Starbucks seemed to have no impact on home value. This could be because of the limitations faced when collecting data, most of the zip codes where missing data, not only that but we only focused the study on 42 Manhattan zip codes not all of New York City's boroughs.Purchase College SUNYEconomicsBachelor of ArtsChikish, Iulii
A Deconstruction of Ecuadorian Radicalized Joy Through Sculpture
This thesis explores the Ecuadorian festival La Diablada Píllareña through sculptural installation and anthropological analysis, examining how communal joy functions as a form of resistance within post-colonial contexts. Through ethnographic fieldwork conducted in Ecuador in January 2025 and collaboration with Ecuadorian artist David Maya, this research investigates the festival's unique deployment of devilish imagery divorced from religious context - a rarity in Ecuador's predominantly Catholic cultural landscape. The installation employs mixed media including PVC pipe structures, plaster masks, papier-mâché, and thrifted materials to capture not merely the physical representation of festival participants but the energetic "other" that emerges through their performance. Drawing on theoretical frameworks of mimesis, alterity, affect theory, and concepts of radical joy, this work interrogates how marginalized communities transform historical pain into collective celebration, creating temporary autonomous zones of power through embodied performance. The thesis ultimately proposes that La Diablada Píllareña demonstrates how tactical joy serves as both political resistance and cultural preservation, offering insights into broader decolonial artistic practices across the Americas.Purchase College SUNYSculptureBachelor of Fine ArtsWorkman, Lachell C
Taylor Swift and her Fandom Bring a New Audience to the NFL
Taylor Swift is one of the most influential artists in the industry. She is also the top-grossing artist for live performances, having generated 1.1 billion. In fact, just her latest tour had sales reaching 440 million. She also inspired countless artists to pursue their own career in music and took back control in her own music by re-releasing her own music to own it for herself. This inspiring a wave of artists to spread awareness about the importance of owning your own music and having the rights to it. Though, her connection with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce sparked an intersection between pop music culture and professional sports. Swift's presence at NFL games increased viewership demographics, merchandise sales, and social media engagement, showing the profound impact a celebrity can have.Purchase College SUNYCommunicationBachelor of ScienceRossman, Mega
Strange Liberty
Strange Liberty is about identity, trauma, and healing through artistic expression. Using personal stories like growing up Black in predominantly white spaces, navigating grief, PTSD, and sexual trauma, creating these vibrant, illustrative sculptures allowed me to reclaim painful stories. My Black joy is used as a radical act of resistance against the systemic oppression embedded in African American culture. Through works like Welcome to the Fairyhood, Cake 4 Ur Ice Cream, and PTSD & Me, I build spaces that deconstruct racial or personal trauma while celebrating resilience, community, and Black liberation.Purchase College SUNYSculptureBachelor of Fine ArtsGilmore, Katherin
21st Century Approaches to the Dance Archive: Reevaluating Praxis to Address Archival Challenges in Modern and Contemporary Dance
What happens when the curtain closes on a dance performance? How much of the content is retained in the minds of performers and audience members? How does one preserve the magic of a fleeting moment? These ideas of memory and legacy often occupy the minds of dance artists and makers as they negotiate the creation and ensure the resonance of their work. This paper seeks to study the place and uses of archives in modern and contemporary dance and explore the praxis (research-based practice) of creating one in the Purchase Conservatory of Dance (conservatory) to support dance preservation and cultivate the dance legacy in educational settings and beyond.Purchase College SUNYArts ManagementBachelor of ArtsGuralnik, Mari

I Still Want You: Utilizing and Creating with Obsolete Electronics
In my project, I am attempting to explore the potential within the technology that is disused, dismissed, and considered obsolete. I want to develop creations that are intrinsically tied to their materiality and technological essence. Much of the technological essence often becomes obscured through the guise of user convenience and we are unable to see the true materiality of what comes through the technology. Exploring and using obscure electronics, while they may be imperfect, can create a deeper connection because they lack the barriers of conformity, control and standardization of more current devices. Through this project, I am trying to push the materiality of the technology, and encourage the use and reuse of electronics that are often disregarded, as they foster a closer connection to the technology, something that we have lost over time.Purchase College SUNYNew MediaBachelor of ArtsMagenheimer, Sar

Why Do People Like Morally Ambiguous Characters
For my senior project, I got the chance to play Ted's character in the musical "The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals" by Nick and Matt Lang. Ted is very much considered a bad person and morally corrupt, but the audience seems to enjoy his presence. What I talked about in my senior project is how people could enjoy a character like this even though they wouldn't like him if they met him in real life. My research showed that this is more common than one would expect.Purchase College SUNYTheatre and PerformanceBachelor of ArtsPichlikova-burke, Lenk
