This project addresses the problem of inefficient and inconsistent social media content planning,
particularly for individuals and small businesses lacking access to expensive, complex
scheduling tools. The investigation focuses on developing a customizable, user friendly Social
Media Content Calendar Tool using Google Sheets. Materials and methods include a literature
review on content strategy, platform algorithms, and usability design, as well as a comparative
analysis of existing tools like Hootsuite and Buffer. A prototype calendar was created with
features such as hashtag grouping, performance tracking, and platform specific monthly and
weekly planners. Usability testing was done using an AI driven evaluation to improve
accessibility and workflow efficiency. The conclusion reached is that a well designed, structured
content calendar can significantly improve engagement, consistency, and user productivity,
filling a gap left by current scheduling tools that are often too expensive or overly complex for

Clean Energy Education: Curriculum to Change Lives and Address Climate Change
This dissertation examines clean energy (CE) education to determine how to educate candidates in multidisciplinary aspects of clean energy to support a global transition away from fossil fuels. Specifically, this work focuses on Western New York and draws from qualitative and quantitative data reflecting the perspectives of key industry actors. Growth in clean energy technology and manufacturing increases the demand for engineers and technicians trained in these areas (UBRI, 2019). This dissertation addresses the findings from a survey with 72 respondents and interviews of 13 stakeholders related to starting CE training programs. The study provides educational action plans for clean energy companies, trainers, and academic institutions and describes a robust CE education program, enrollment strategies, and community support. Community collaboration is emphasized since community, industry, and higher education leaders must communicate and agree on action plans to invest in clean energy technicians. Acceptance of climate change science remains inconsistent across political and socioeconomic groups. Individual acceptance of and move to action on climate change depends on whether physical or financial effects are experienced from it (Brink et al., 2023). The findings address this cultural resistance, as acceptance of climate action science is necessary for the success of CE initiatives, and it will also support science dialogue against political polarization. Recommendations are made to increase social justice by understanding workforce development challenges in low-income communities and using strategies to recruit underserved candidates into technical training that can be a path to upward social mobility. Revamping Shipbuilding Capabilities in the United States: A Catalyst to Make America Great Again
This paper examines the current state of the U.S. shipbuilding industry, high-lighting its historical decline and the challenges it faces amidst global competition and fluctuating naval demands. Despite its economic significance, con-tributing substantially to jobs, labor income, and GDP through direct, indirect, and induced effects evidenced by 107,180 direct jobs and a $12.2 billion GDP contribution in 2019, the industry has received limited government stim-ulus. The study contrasts the U.S. situation with shipbuilding practices in leading nations like Japan, China, and Korea, where government support and large conglomerates play significant roles. Recognizing the critical importance of a robust shipbuilding base for both economic prosperity and national security, particularly for the U.S. Navy, the paper proposes leveraging Industry 4.0 technologies to revamp the sector. Specifically Three-Dimensional Laser Scanning(3DLS), Additive Manufacturing (AM), Product Life-cycle Management (PLM)and the integration of intelligent ship (i-Ship)—to revamp the U.S. shipbuilding industry. Preliminary findings suggest substantial cost savings and in-creased value can be achieved through the adoption of these commercially available technologies, offering a pathway to revitalize the sector, support naval modernization goals (a 335-ship fleet), and contribute to broader the U.S. economic growth. The analysis suggests that the strategic adoption of these innovative technologies offers a pathway to revitalize the U.S. shipbuilding industry, aligning it with modern manufacturing practices and bolstering its contribution to the nation’s economic and defense infrastructure. Neural mechanisms of binocular vision and image processing
"Binocular vision plays an essential role in mammalian perception and is critical for tasks such as visual navigation, feeding, and survival. In animals with frontally positioned eyes, such as humans and carnivores, binocular vision dominates visual perception. This dominance reflects the brain’s reliance on the precise integration of signals from both eyes through a complex network of neurons, circuits, and cortical regions. Any impairment within this complex network can lead to significant binocular deficits, disrupting perception. Despite decades of research, key questions remain about how the brain coordinates inputs from the two eyes to achieve stable binocular fusion and depth perception, and how specific failures in this coordination give rise to perceptual distortions. This thesis addresses these questions through two investigations into the neural mechanisms underlying binocular vision and image processing in the early visual cortex.
The primary visual cortex (area V1) is the first cortical stage where inputs from the two eyes converge, forming binocular receptive fields that support unified perception. These receptive fields must balance two competing requirements: diversity to adequately sample the visual world, and similarity across the two eyes to achieve binocular fusion. However, the neural mechanisms by which the cortex achieves this balance have remained unclear. In the first chapter of my thesis, I analyzed an extensive dataset comprising thousands of multielectrode array recordings from anesthetized cats collected over nine years. My results demonstrate that receptive fields in the cat visual cortex exhibit exquisite binocular matching in multiple dimensions, including retinotopy, orientation/direction preference, orientation/direction selectivity, response latency, and ON-OFF polarity/structure. Specifically, the average binocular mismatches in retinotopy and ON-OFF structure are tightly constrained to approximately 1/20 and 1/5 of the average receptive field size, respectively. These small mismatches are sufficient for generating diverse binocular disparity tuning, crucial for depth perception. Consequently, I conclude that cortical receptive fields are binocularly matched with exquisite precision to facilitate binocular fusion while allowing subtle mismatches essential for processing visual depth.
The second chapter of my thesis investigates the neuronal mechanisms underlying perceptual distortions in humans with binocular deficits caused by amblyopia (lazy eye). Previous research has suggested that errors in neural coding of orientation in primary visual cortex may be responsible for distorted perception in amblyopes. However, the precise mechanisms by which these errors occur are not yet fully understood. In the second chapter of my thesis, I introduce a computational model that effectively simulates a wide variety of perceptual distortions experienced by individuals with amblyopia. Using this model, I quantify the magnitude of visual distortions and uncover robust correlations among distortion magnitude, contrast sensitivity deficits, and the predicted spread of cortical activation. Based on my findings, I propose a neuronal mechanism for amblyopia in which weak cortical responses are compensated by increased cortical spread. This compensatory mechanism activates neurons with mismatched stimulus preferences, leading to perceptual distortions analogous to those induced by reduced contrast. Altogether, my thesis offers new insights into the neural basis of binocular vision, from the precise cortical balance that enables fusion and depth perception to the subtle disruptions that give rise to visual distortions in amblyopia. Resources to support addiction counselors: A qualitative investigation
Background and Objective: Counselors have high burnout rates caused by demanding workloads. The
objective of this research was to identify possible resources which could make a substance use counselors’
job easier.
Methods: This qualitative study collected its information through interviews done over the phone or in person.
Results: The counselors answers identified they feel overwhelmed and often have to multitask, which
creates feelings of stress.
