    When the System Blinks: Trauma Centers, Law Enforcement, and the Future of Violence Prevention

    This study examines the intersection between violent crime, emergency medical response, and trauma system performance within the City of Rochester, New York. Using secondary data from the CDC WONDER, WISQARS, NVDRS, and the New York State SPARCS database, it explores how multidisciplinary coordination—particularly between law enforcement, EMS, and trauma centers—affects survivability outcomes in firearm-related violence. A focused two-mile study zone revealed that structural disadvantage, including poverty, unemployment, and educational inequity, correlates strongly with elevated violent crime rates. Yet within this same environment, improvements in trauma care and pre-hospital response have contributed to measurable reductions in homicide fatalities, reframing survivability as an essential component of public safety. The analysis extends beyond systemic causation, recognizing the cultural normalization of violence through media and social platforms as a modern criminogenic factor. The findings underscore the need for integrated strategies that merge enforcement, prevention, and trauma response as co-equal pillars of urban safety. By reframing medical systems as active partners in violence reduction, this research supports a new model in which survivability itself becomes a benchmark for community resilience.     Sustaining ENL Students with Disabilities in K-12 Academics

    The goal of this professional development is to provide general education teachers, special education teachers, and TESOL teachers with the information they need in order to support ENL students with disabilities in a K-12 classroom. This research and professional development analyzes the various methods that educators can implement in the classroom in order to provide accommodations and modifications to support this demographic of students. The professional development will educate all teachers on their legal responsibilities that are tied to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as well as how to read them. This will help educators when lesson planning to ensure all student’s needs are met. Additionally, the professional development will educate all teachers on the different levels of English proficiency levels and how to provide for their needs. This includes ensuring ENL students are receiving the testing accommodations they are legally required to have in conjunction with testing accommodations per what is specified on their IEP. Lastly, the professional development will cover accommodations for students using current technology that is aligned with content specific courses offered at a 5th and 6th grade level.     Examining the Role of Emotion Regulation in Parent–Child Dynamics and Implications for Mental Health Counseling

    This paper examines how parental emotion regulation shapes children’s emotional development and behavior. Key subtopics include the development of emotion regulation, co-regulation, emotion coaching versus dismissing, coercive control, boundaries and discipline, and rupture and repair. The review highlights that parental self-regulation and consistent, warm parenting practices promote children’s resilience, while harsh or inconsistent responses contribute to dysregulation and behavioral difficulties.     A stratigraphic analysis of the Port Jervis formation

    This paper examines the geological characteristics and depositional history of the Port Jervis Formation, located in the Tri-States Region of New York, through a stratigraphic analysis and paleontological perspective. The Port Jervis Formation is an argillaceous limestone defined among the surrounding units by a prominent trilobite bed containing the index fossil Nanothyris subglobosa . Lower Devonian in age, the Port Jervis Formation is between the older Port Ewen Formation and younger than the Glenerie Formation. In other localities in the surrounding region there is an unconformity, the Wallbridge Unconformity, that lies between the Port Ewen and Glenerie formations. The Port Jervis Formation provides a valuable stratigraphic record since it is one of the only preserved units from the period of deposition. The analysis of the Port Jervis Formation aims to cultivate an in-depth understanding of the depositional environment, stratigraphic relationships, and geologic history of the Tri-States Region during this time, which is very sparsely recorded in Earth's history elsewhere.     Why TV matters

    Have you ever watched a TV show and had a moment where you realized, oh, maybe these characters are not as well represented as I thought? As a little girl, I started paying more attention to the rampant, harmful stereotypes in the TV shows that I was watching, such as Victorious and Jessie. My mother would make it a point to break down stereotyped characters in the shows I would watch, but not everyone had that same experience. For my thesis project. Why TV Matters, I explored complexities and nuance in character stereotypes and representation in TV. I interviewed faculty friends, and staff to create an interactive website prototype that explores three broad areas of representation: race, gender, and disabilities. What people see on the TV has an extremely significant impact on their perception of the world and different groups of people. Has representation in TV improved in the last 10-15 years? Absolutely. Has the representation gotten more diverse, or intersectional? Maybe it’s time you start watching through a different lens.     Examining the relationship between sap sugar content and tree size in sugar maples (Acer saccharum)

    The Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) is a flowering tree native to northeastern hardwood forests in Canada and the United States. Sugar maples play important ecological and economic roles by cycling nutrients in forests and supporting biodiversity, as well as contributing to the maple syrup industry. In this study, 100 sugar maple trees were sampled in the SUNY Oswego sugarbush to study the relationship between tree diameter at breast height (DBH) and sap sugar content. Preliminary results indicate a strong positive relationship, with larger trees generally producing higher sap sugar concentrations. These results suggest that tree size may be a beneficial indicator for selecting higher yield sap producing trees in smaller-scale sugarbush productions. Biological SciencesHellquist, C. Eri

    Confirming the Mannanase Function of Protein Structure 3CBW

    This project aimed to verify the mannanase activity of 3CBW, an enzyme with a known structure but unknown function. Expression is done by adding plasmid DNA containing the gene for 3CBW to E. coli to perform transformation. Enzyme 3CBW is purified from lysed E. coli cells by Ni-NTA chromatography. Kinetic assays confirm the computational predictions made prior to testing, which are performed using Azcl-galactomannan (AZCL-GM), a substrate that is hydrolyzed by endo-1,4-β-mannanases. This enzyme successfully hydrolyzes this substrate, measured by the formation of a soluble blue product from the insoluble substrate.ChemistryKoeppe, Juli
