    No full text
The skin is the outermost part of the body that serves as a protective body. In addition to protecting the skin of the face, it also acts as a beautifier. The main problem with facial skin is inflammation of the skin, which can cause acne. Bacteria like Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause acne on the face. Prolonged use of antibiotics as therapy against acne will cause a new problem, namely resistance to antibiotics. Lime peel has many uses, especially as an antibacterial, which makes it a good candidate for use as an antibacterial agent in acne treatment. The goal of this study was to find out if the etTMhanolic extract of lime peel could kill bacteria like Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The research method used the Kirby-Bauer method and the Streaking methods to analyze the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration. The results showed MIC at a concentration of 1 mg/mL for each bacterium, while MBC at a concentration of 40 mg/mL in Propionibacterium acnes and 50 mg/mL in Staphylococcus epidermidis. The conclusion is that the extract of lime peel in ethanol can kill bacteria. &nbsp

Turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.) is a traditional Indonesian plant that has many benefits. Curcuminoids are turmeric compounds known to have effects as immunomodulators and have been proven in several in vivo tests. Immunosuppressive drugs such as cyclophosphamide are widely given to improve clinical symptoms in autoimmune patients and cancer treatment which can cause susceptibility to infection. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the immunostimulating effect of curcuminoid extract from turmeric rhizome on cyclophosphamide-induced white rats. Proof of the immunostimulating effect of curcuminoid extracts was by testing the total leukocytes and leukocytesdifferential. The test results showed that curcuminoid extracts of 1 mL, 0.5 mL, and 0.25 mL increased total leukocytes and leukocyte differential (lymphocytes, neutrophils, monocytes, basophils, eosinophils) with a significant difference (p<0.05) to the Na group CMC 0.5% as a negative control. Therefore, curcuminoid extract had the potential to have an effect as an immunostimulant. The development of traditional medicine needs to be carried out so that Indonesia's natural wealth can be utilized as effectively as possible to improve people's welfare. As with diabetes, some reputable traditional herbal medicines contain antidiabetic properties. Natural antidiabetic drugs derived from compounds isolated from plants can be used as an alternative to traditional medicine for diabetes because they have potential side effects. Diabetes can be treated alternatively by using various substances, especially those containing polyphenols, such as flavonoids. Sapodilla kecik (Manilkara kauki (L.) Dubard) from the Sapotaceae family is a type of plant used in traditional medicine; leaves, roots and bark can be used to treat diarrhoea in children, seeds can be used as a febrifuge, anthelmintic, and as an antileprotic. Secondary metabolites in sapodilla kecik leaves are flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, triterpenoids and glycosides. This research was carried out by characterizing and screening phytochemicals to determine the content of compounds in Sapodilla kecik (Manilkara kauki (L.) Dubard) and carrying out antidiabetic tests on streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats. The results showed that sapodilla kecik leaves fulfilled the simplicia characterization requirements. Sapodilla leaves contain secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, glycosides, saponins and steroids. The ethanol extract of sapodilla kecik leaves at a dose of 500 mg/Kg BW starting from the 4th day of treatment, a dose of 250 mg/Kg BW starting on the 8th day of treatment, and a dose of 125 mg/Kg BW starting on the 12th day was able to reduce the KGD of induced diabetic rats with nicotinamide and streptozotocin

    No full text
Nitrogen fixing fungi are fungi capable of fixing free nitrogen into ammonium or nitrate, so that it can be absorbed by plants. Many species of microbes/fungi have the ability to fix nitrogen, but very few are able to excrete nitrogen in the form of ammonia so that their contribution in providing nitrogen for plants is also still low. This study aims to determine the characteristics and type of nitrogen fixing fungi in fruit and vegetable waste compost. The method used in this research was descriptive method. Identification of nitrogen-fixing fungi was carried out macroscopically by looking at the color of the colonies, the shape of the colonies, and the diameter of the fungal colonies, an then identified by molecularly. There were 4 isolates of nitrogen-fixing fungi capable of forming clear zones on Jensen's media with different morphological characteristics and nitrogen-fixing abilities. The largest diameter of the clear zone was shown in isolate A3 of 3.2 cm which is the fungus Aspergillus niger strain SG1
