The Powerful Healing Effect of Traditional Medicine for The Treatment of Certain Chronic Diseases: One of The Means To Better Defeat Covid-19
Health is one of the greatest blessings a person can have, and it is priceless. Traditional medicine has always been and remains an important practice for human health. In all regions of the world, popular knowledge has acquired its own experiences in traditional medicine which are passed on from generation to generation and which have generated wonders in terms of innovation of effective traditional remedies which bear the fruit of the healing. After the release of the novel Covid-19 virus, several research studies have focused on the study of medicinal plants that fall under traditional Chinese or Indian medicine or others around the world, to try to put in place remedies against this virus. Chronic Diseases kill millions of people around the world every year. These diseases cause a weakening of the immune system in people who have them. As a result, health experts have classified those affected by these diseases as being among the most at risk in the event of contracting Covid-19. It is therefore obvious that preventing and combating chronic diseases helps to better cope with this Virus or others that may arise in the future. In this humble work, we have tried to make a small contribution that could help fight Covid-19. In the light of actual practices supported by bibliographic research, we try to recall some orientations of natural treatments against certain widespread chronic diseases namely: type 2 diabetes; arthritis and weak immune system (particular case of a low white blood cell count). The results of these treatments are very promising for healing and recovery; which opens doors of hope for those who are affected. Moreover, this subject deserves serious investigations through Research for a better consolidation of these therapies
Radiographic Assessment of the Incidence of Supernumerary teeth in a population of 1683 patients (Preliminary study)
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the incidence of the supernumerary teeth among Palestinian according to sex, location and morphology. This retrospective study was carried out using 1683 panoramic radiographs (719 males, 964 females) aged seven and older. The supernumerary teeth were observed in 11 (0.65%) panoramic (4 males, 7 females) with (1:1.75) male female ratio. two cases of them showed bilaterally hyperdontia. The premolar was found to be the most common supernumerary, followed by mesiodens and distomolar. The incidence of supernumerary teeth was found to be 0.77%, and we demonstrate that parapremolar the most common in the mandible
Chemical Transformation of Pyrido[2,3-d]Pyrimidin-4-ONES. 2. Selective Reduction of 2,3-Trimethylenepyrido[2,3-d]Pyrimidin-4-one by Sodium Borohydride.
Reduction of 2,3-trimethylenepyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-one by sodium borohydride was investigated in an alcohol solution. Selective reduction of only a N1=C2 double bound of the initial compound was shown. The isomeric 2,3-trimethylene-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrido[2,3-d]-pyrimidin-4-ones are formed and quantitatively separated on HPLC with chiral adsorbent column. Theoretically formation of four optical isomers of 2,3-trimethylene-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-ones are discussed
Evaluation of Four Novel Imported and Egyptian Curly and Non-Curly Leafed Parsley Genotypes for Yield and Essential Oil Composition Under The Egyptian Sandy Soil Growing Conditions
Four novel parsley genotypes (Moskurl 2 Petra, Moskurl 2 KRA USA, Gewone Dai 3 Rial 10, and Bravour) were imported from Netherlands to be planted and evaluated along with the Egyptian local variety “Egyptian” in the sandy soil under the Middle Egypt growing conditions. Three of the four introduced genotypes are curly-leafed varieties and one is non-curly leafed “Gewone Dai 3 Rial 10” as well as the Egyptian is a non-curly leafed variety. The aims of this experiment were to evaluate and study the growth characteristics (e.g. plant height, plant fresh and dry weights and fresh yield of leaves/m2) and some chemical properties of these genotypes (e.g. TSS and essential oil contents, essential oil composition and leaves content of chlorophyll a, b, and carotenoids) after adaptation and growing during the two successive winter seasons of 2013/2014 and 2014/2015. All introduced genotypes grew very well under these conditions and showed a very acceptable vegetative growth, profitable yield and high levels of volatile oils rich in anticancer and flavor responsible compounds and their horticultural and chemical proprieties were compared with those of the Egyptian local variety. The obtained data are very promising for Egyptian parsley growers to produce these new imported varieties in order to meet the increasing demand of parsley fresh and dry processed products with different shapes and different tastes of the Egyptian and foreign markets
Effects of Lycopene on Liver Markers and Glucokinase Activity in Experimentally-induced Diabetes Mellitus Rat Model.
The study examined the effects of lycopene on markers of liver function and glucokinase activity in experimentally-induced diabetes mellitus rat model. To accomplish this, experimental diabetes were induced by single intra-peritoneal administration of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg b w) into animals. Diabetic and normal animals were randomized into the following groups: Group I: Normal control rats that received (0.5 mL) of olive oil; Group II: Diabetic control animals that received (0.5 mL) of olive oil); while Group III- VI received (10, 20 and 40 mg/kg of lycopene and 2 mg/kg b w glibenclamide) respectively. All treatments were given orally once daily for four weeks. There was a significant (P < 0.05) and progressive reduction on blood glucose concentration, with non- significant (P > 0.05) increase in serum insulin level when compared with diabetic control group. There was a significant (P < 0.05) increase in the activity of liver glucokinase enzyme as well as a significant (P < 0.05) decrease on the activities of serum liver enzymes (AST, ALT and ALP) in diabetic animals administered with lycopene when compared with those of diabetic control animals. Following available evidence from our findings, lycopene may be suggested as a promising dietary agent in the management of diabetes and hepato-cellular damage that usually occurs in diabetes mellitus
Kinetic Potentials of the Effect of Ethanol on Iron Content of Ashed Cow Liver
The kinetics of the effect of ethanol on iron content of ashed cow liver was investigated. The work revealed that the cow liver contained a very high quantity of iron. The effect of alcohol distilled from palm wine was tested kinetically on the measured concentration of the iron in the ashed cow liver. The depletion in the concentration of the iron was monitored spectrophotometrically at specific time intervals. The analysis showed a gradual decrease in the concentration of iron in the ashed cow liver extract. The initial iron content in the ashed cow liver was 22.6130 mg/l. After 10 minutes of reaction of the local ethanol with the cow liver extract, the quantity of the iron reduced to 7.5443 mg/l. at the end of 90 minutes, the concentration of iron further reduced to 5.3624 mg/l. the half life, rate of reaction, rate constant and order of the reaction were determined. The pH of the reaction mixture was almost constant throughout the time interval of measurement. The average pH was measured to be 6.52, being weakly acidic. The results showed that ethanol reduced or destroyed the concentration of iron present in a biological system
Generation Cycle of Jebba Hydro Power Plant and its Effect on the National Power Grid
This paper presents the trend of power generation for the Jebba hydro-power plant and its effect on the Nigerian National Power Grid (NPG). Since electricity is used on a 24-hour basis, it is requiredto bestable and constantly available.However, it has been observed that there is usually a shortfall between the actual and available generated output power of hydro-power plants. Four years of power generation data (2003 – 2006) was analyzed to establish this trend.The data was acquired from hourly, daily, weekly and yearly inspection reading sheets of synchronous generators. The components of the data used include; the average available capacity (MW), the average actual generation (MW), the number of operational hours in a month, the total outage period (hours), the in-service period (hours), the reservoir computed inflow (m3) and the total water discharge (m3). It was observed that the power plant is only able to generate about 75% of its installed capacity for only two months (October and November) but less at the other months of the year. Positive correlations exist between the reservoir computed inflow (m3), total water discharge (m3) and the average actual generation. Tables and statistical charts were used to analyze the station’s performance, and recommendations for improved performance was made. This study has established a trend of power generation which can be used for power generation planning for Nigeria to enable a constant supply of electricity
Determination of Gross Alpha and Beta Activity in Water: (A Case Study of Gombe Metropolis).
A study on the “Determination of Gross Alpha and Beta activitity in Water” in Gombe metropolis was carried out. Nuclides are unstable elements that are spontaneously emitting nuclear radiation in an attempt to attain the nuclear structure of the stable elements. Humnan exposure to these radiation beyond certain limit can cause serious health problems. Radionuclides can be found in air, water and soil. This study investigated the gross alpha and beta activity in water from Gombe metropolitan. Gross alpha and beta activity is a measure of the total amount of natural radioactivity in a water sample attributable to the radioactive decay of alpha or beta particles emitted from natural decay series. The gross alpha and beta activity is used to create assurance on the level of nuclear contamination in water for drinking and other domestic use. The World Health Organization (WHO) standard for alpha and beta activity in water 100 Bqm-3 . The resuts obtained in this study varies between 0 – 0.045 Bqv/I and 0.659 – 11.580 Bq/I for alpha and beta radiation respectively. Comparison of these results with the WHO standards shows that the gross alpha and beta activity in the water in Gombe metropolitan is far beow WHO satndards. This indicates the safety of the water in the study area for drinking and other domestic applications
Wheat Agromorphology Characters as Affected by Fertilizers in Southern Humid Forest of Côte d’Ivoire: Exploring cations effect on wheat growth in an inherent marginal ecology
An alternative of crop adaptation to climate change may be achieved by extension in new ecosystems. In this circumstance, stimulation of growth hormones should be advocated. Therefore, a fertilizer trial of wheat (Triticum durumdesf) was set in rainfed condition of the south of Côte d’Ivoire. The experiment design was a randomized complete bloc design with three replications including seven pots as treatments. A rate of 200 kgha-1 as NPK (15, 22, 22) basal fertilizer was applied. The rates of 50 kgha-1 as magnesium sulfite and 10 kgha-1 of zinc sulfite were used for the treatments NPKMg, NPKZn, NPKMgZn, Mg and Zn. A rate of 35 kgha-1 was also applied as urea at tillering and bosting stages respectively. The results showed highest grain yield in a range of 3.47 tha-1 for the treatment NPK. A negative impact of cations on photoperiod and a depressing effect of low rate of K was deemed responsible of low tillering and the limited plant high. Presuming effects of Zn and Mg were only limited to the reproductive stage without affecting the grain yield because of low development of the rhizosphere. There is chance to increase the grain yield of 3.47 tha-1 recorded by for the treatment NPK when increasing the rate of K for improving wheat production in the forest zone of south Côte d’Ivoire
Retrospective Reports of Childhood Relationships and Associations with Adult Anxiety and Depression
Despite being two of the most significant mental disorders, limited research has been conducted to investigate childhood antecedents of anxiety and depression in adults outside of traumatic events. Parenting styles and peer relationship factors have been implicated in childhood psychopathology. This study sought to find associations between college students’ current anxiety and/or depression symptomatology, and their retrospective reports of childhood parenting style factors and peer relationships. Participants (N = 206) were recruited through a local University and all questionnaires were completed online. Correlational analysis revealed significant associations between current depression symptoms and childhood bullying and victimization. Also, anxiety symptoms were associated with victimization. MANOVA results revealed significant differences between mother’s over control, indifference, and abuse with current depression and anxiety scores. Father’s abuse was also associated with current depression. This research shows that effects from important early relationships can be long lasting, and highlights the need for appropriate interventions
