Perception on different forms of social support on the career-decision-making self-efficacy of senior high school students

    No full text
Social support is seen as the motivators for the students in their career decision making. In this study, the researchers aimed to assess how the career decisions of senior high school students today were influenced by the level of social support they received. This study was supported by the Social Cognitive Career Theory Choice Model that aims to help people establish goals in career-related activities in line with interest, self-efficacy, and outcome expectations in which the use of explanatory research design to gather the data was needed for the study. The quantitative results revealed that the senior high school students mostly received social support from family. The researchers also assessed the possible significant difference in the level of social support based on age group and year level of senior high school students in their career decision-making self-efficacy. Results revealed that there is no significant difference found in the career decision-making self-efficacy between grade 11 and grade 12 students. On the other hand, in the qualitative results, the researchers used a phenomenological research approach in gathering data, and the results were then analyzed through a thematic analysis to analyze if they received positive or negative influence from their social support or if it affected their confidence in career decision-making or not. The impact of social support on the career decision-making self-efficacy of senior high school students is that it could guide students to decide on their career choice, however it varies from student to student how they will take into consideration these suggestions

The assessment of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of female adolescents ages 15-18 from a health allied senior high school towards reproductive health

The Philippines faces several reproductive health issues, for instance, unintended pregnancies, illegal abortion, and sexually transmitted diseases. These are what make the female adolescent population increasingly susceptible to a number of reproductive health issues. Thus, this research aims to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of its respondents to impart a descriptive analysis on the current state of reproductive health among female adolescent senior high school students from a health-allied institution and determine whether there are significant differences among their KAP assessment depending on population age and grade level. A descriptive quantitative study was conducted and disseminated through the distribution of an online survey test containing an adapted and selfmade questionnaire, following the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices theoretical framework. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis of the gathered data and were interpreted and discussed to establish answers and address the research questions. The results showed a mean score of 4.61 for knowledge, 3.31 for attitudes, and 1.69 for practices among the respondents (N = 284). It was established that age and grade level are factors that affect knowledge and attitudes among the respondents. The study gathered that female adolescents ages 15 to 18 from a health-allied senior high school had a high degree of reproductive health knowledge, varying between age and grade level. Although the population exhibits good attitudes towards reproductive health, they display inconsistent healthy practices. This indicates the need for further research to better understand contributing factors

The heart of healthcare: development and initial validation of malasakit scale in healthcare services

In the healthcare field where success and money prevail, the presence of Malasakit, an innate Filipino identity that manifests through compassionate actions, is questioned. With this, compassionate care by healthcare professionals in their patient care resonates with Malasakit throughout our society and culture. Hence, this study aimed to develop and validate a Malasakit scale by examining the psychometric properties and describing how Malasakit is perceived and implemented in healthcare settings. Malasakit is an innate Filipino identity that manifests through the compassionate actions of healthcare professionals in their patient care, resonating Throughout our society and culture. Hence, the study aimed to develop and validate a Malasakit scale by examining the psychometric properties, and describing how it is perceived and implemented in healthcare settings. Measuring the Malasakit of healthcare workers is vital to promote proper patient care leading to their satisfaction in treatments and diagnosis. A scale of 85 items was given to 130 professionals in various healthcare services. The results of an analysis showed that the initial framework of four factors (Empathy, Care, Compassion, and Concern) was partially confirmed using exploratory factorial analysis. Using the oblique rotation method (Promax) and principal axis factoring estimation, the researchers extracted factors to comprehend variable relationships, ensuring analytical validity. The researchers eliminated 39 of 85 questions with factor loadings below .50. The researchers excluded items with two-factor cross-loadings near .50. Due to persistently low factor loadings below .35, arousal and relax factors were removed. To ensure a stricter scale, all items must exhibit similarities above 0.70. This rigorous approach yielded 19 items arranged into two categories. As a key finding, two characteristics emerged: Cognitive and Somatic Empathy, which are found in the literature, and Multicultural Competence Care, Reflective Patient-Centered Care, and Hospitality, which are emerging in Filipino health care services. The study found that the scale can assess empathy and care in healthcare services, including factors specific to Filipino healthcare practices

The experiences of BS Speech and Language Pathology graduates from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute on service provision after taking augmentative and alternative communication post-baccalaureate training in the Philippines: a phenomenological study

The study aimed to examine the experiences of BSSLP graduates from DLSMHSI, particularly the perceived benefits and challenges in service provision after obtaining post-baccalaureate training in AAC. The study used a qualitative phenomenological design and conducted semi-structured interviews to determine the benefits and challenges of AAC service provision after the post-baccalaureate training. The research tool was validated by a registered speech and language pathologist who had undergone post-baccalaureate training in AAC. Three registered speech and language pathologists who completed AAC post-baccalaureate training participated in one-on-one online interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, following the frameworks of Braun and Clarke (2006) and Colaizzi (1978), resulting in 19 final codes categorized under 7 themes. The study\u27s results revealed that the post-baccalaureate course provided beneficial skills and knowledge that helped them improve their overall AAC service provision. These skills included a proactive stance on AAC advocacy in their clinics, enhanced knowledge of AAC service provision, increased confidence and affective skills, and improved parent-clinician collaboration, all contributing to the overall growth and increased usage of AAC systems in their respective fields. However, despite these benefits, several challenges were still experienced by the participants even after taking the AAC post-baccalaureate training. These challenges included limitations in how SLPs provide AAC services based on their knowledge and exposure to unfamiliar cases, the limited resources of the clients, and the limited opportunities and feedback time for training families in the use of AAC. Nevertheless, the BSSLP graduates demonstrated resourcefulness in maximizing the use of AAC services for their clients when facing these obstacles in their practice
