A systematic literature review on the implications of job dissatisfaction among nurses in Asia
Among the 9,000 nurses surveyed in October 2021, only 40% of the results claimed that they were satisfied with their professional life, as opposed to a previous survey in 2018, which garnered a 62% satisfactory response. Through a systematic literature review, this study aimed to determine the factors and implications of job dissatisfaction among nurses in Asia that are currently available in high-quality research. This study utilized a systematic method to review existing studies. In gathering data, the PRISMA diagram was used as a basis. The literature selected in the study underwent abstract reviewing for inclusion and exclusion criteria first, followed by a full-text review of the studies available across different platforms, such as Google Scholar, ProQuest, and SageJournals from 2018–present, considering the potential sources of bias or factors that may affect the validity of the findings. Findings indicate that only nine studies (from Saudi Arabia, Korea, China, Iran, Jordan, Singapore, and Turkey) were included and identified as low-risk, therefore high-quality research. The study was able to form a thematic map, indicating the different factors and implications of job dissatisfaction for nurses and its sub-themes. Findings also indicate that every factor and implication leading to job dissatisfaction can affect their productivity and capability to provide quality healthcare to their patients. Findings call for the development of instruments to promote stress management, such as promoting work-life balance and having a nurturing and empowering work environment, as nurses’ mental health plays a crucial role in quality patient care and a nurturing and positive work environment for colleagues
Analysis on the factors affecting the sense of self of senior citizens residing in selected cities and municipalities in Cavite
Heavily inspired by Erik Erikson’s Developmental Stages Theory, this study aims to fill in the gap of knowledge existing regarding the health and well-being of senior citizens residing in the selected cities and municipalities in Cavite, by analyzing the factors that influences their sense of self. This study also aims to derive conclusions by gathering data regarding the demographic profile of the respondents and the factors that affect the sense of self of the respondents in terms of the five (5) aspects that make up the individual’s holistic well-being. These are namely the physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual aspects of one’s sense of self. Also, by analyzing how these factors influence the sense of self of the respondents, and determining whether there is a significant relation between the factors and the respondents’ sense of self when grouped according to their demographic profiles. This study follows a mixed-method approach, in which both quantitative and qualitative data are gathered. Through applying statistical treatments and thematic analysis, this research was able to conclude that there is in fact no significant difference between the factors and the sense of self of the individuals when grouped according to their demographic profiles. This study is serviceable as it may be used as basis and foundation for developing programs that may improve the quality of life and address the needs of senior citizens residing in Cavite. Furthermore, this may also help professionals understand and suffice them better
Exploring the relationship of parental involvement on help-seeking attitudes among adolescents regarding their mental health
Adolescence is characterized by significant biological, social, and psychological changes, with recent developments extending the age range from 12 up to 25 years of age. Adolescents face various mental health difficulties due to hormonal changes, brain development, and social pressures. This consequently highlights adolescents\u27 tendency to seek help for their issues. Parents, as crucial influencers of adolescents\u27 development, play a potentially vital role in shaping their help-seeking attitudes. Hence, this study aimed to explore the relationship between parental involvement and adolescents’ willingness to seek help for mental issues. Explanatory sequential, cross-sectional, thematic analysis, and phenomenological research designs were utilized in this mixed method study. 200 participants from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, aged 15 to 18, were selected through random quota sampling and systematic random sampling. To collect the data, an online survey through Google Forms and interviews were conducted with questions focusing on their perceptions regarding the relationship of parental involvement and help-seeking attitude of adolescents. The Mental Help Seeking Attitudes Scale (MHSAS), a 9-item instrument to measure attitudes towards seeking help from a mental health professional, and Maternal and Paternal Involvement, a survey used to evaluate the relationship between adolescents and their parents, were utilized as research instruments. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear regression. The findings revealed that there is no significant relationship between parental involvement and the help-seeking attitude of adolescents; various factors such as cultural disparity, neutrality, and autonomy all contribute to the perspectives of the participants regarding help-seeking and parental involvement
Level of awareness, extent of fulfillment of needs, and impact on health practices concerning adolescent health and development program among senior high school students from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute
The Adolescent Health and Development Program, administered by the Department of Health, is a comprehensive initiative designed to promote healthy lifestyles and relationships among adolescents. Through random sampling, 250 students from Grades 11 and 12 from the Special Health Sciences Senior High School at the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute were selected to assess their level of awareness, the extent to which their needs were met by the program, and its impact on their health practices. The study revealed that students generally had a high level of awareness about the program\u27s components, such as mental health and oral health services, and the methods used to deliver these services, like school campaigns and access to school facilities. They also demonstrated awareness of how the program was implemented, including training for staff and health workers. Secondly, students felt that the extent to which the program fulfilled their needs was high, especially in areas like sexual and reproductive health education, mental health support, substance abuse prevention, and nutrition and physical health. Lastly, the program had a notable impact on students\u27 health practices. They reported adopting healthy practices such as staying informed about contraception, seeking professional help for mental health issues, avoiding harmful substances, and maintaining regular health check-ups. Ultimately, the findings suggested that the Adolescent Health and Development Program effectively raised awareness, fulfilled needs, and positively impacted the health practices of the Special Health Sciences Senior High School students
