Management practices among ambulant vendors in Iloilo City
Abstract onlyThis study investigated the management practices of ambulant vendors in Iloilo City, focusing on Henri Fayol's Classical Management Theory, the four core functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (POLC). Utilizing a descriptive research design, the study surveyed 100 ambulant vendors selected through convenience sampling. Data were gathered using a validated, researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using mean, percentage, frequency count, Kruskal-Wallis H Test and Mann-Whitney U Test. Results revealed that vendors moderately practiced all four management functions, with organizing being the most practiced and leading the least. Demographic factors such as age, sex, educational attainment, marital status, and years of operation showed varying influence on the vendors’ management behaviors. Despite operating informally, vendors demonstrated an intuitive application of managerial principles, shaped by experience and necessity. The findings underscore the need for capacity-building initiatives tailored to this sector, highlighting how formal management education and policy support can enhance the efficiency and sustainability of ambulant vending in urban areas. This research contributes to understanding the dynamics of informal entrepreneurship and offers practical implications for policymakers and development agencies.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Business Administratio

Shared governance in community-oriented tourist destinations: An exploratory case study
Abstract onlyShared governance is vital for managing community-oriented tourism destinations and promoting stakeholder empowerment through collaboration, participatory decision making, and sustainable development. However, its practical implementation is complex due to varying levels of engagement and governance challenges. This study examines the collaborative dynamics of shared governance in community-oriented tourism, focusing on factors influencing stakeholder engagement, difficulties in implementation, and impacts on sustainability and community empowerment. Conducted in Ormoc City, Philippines, the qualitative research involved in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with 13 stakeholders, including local government, tourism associations, businesses, and community groups. The thematic analysis highlighted that effective shared governance relies on multi-stakeholder engagement, strong public-private partnerships, trust, accountability, and clear roles. Challenges include conflicting priorities, resource constraints, power imbalances, and bureaucratic barriers. Despite these obstacles, shared governance fosters tourism sustainability by enhancing organization, inclusive decision-making, creating livelihood opportunities, and promoting community-led conservation. Policymakers should strengthen stakeholder coordination, develop equitable resource distribution, and address systemic challenges to improve effectiveness. These insights are valuable for local governments and tourism leaders aiming for sustainable tourism and community empowerment.Includes bibliographical referencesDoctor of Management (Tourism and Hospitality Management

Challenges, coping strategies, and attitude towards infodemic among information professionals on new normal
Abstract onlyThis study explores the challenges, coping strategies, and attitudes of information professionals in managing the infodemic in the new normal. The increasing prevalence of misinformation and disinformation has posed significant challenges to information professionals responsible for filtering and disseminating credible information. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, the study surveyed 79 licensed information professionals from various library settings in Iloilo City. Data were collected through a validated and pilot-tested questionnaire and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson’s r correlation. Findings revealed that information professionals encounter moderate to high levels of challenges in dealing with the infodemic, including information overload, digital misinformation, and public distrust in credible sources. In response, they employ various coping strategies, such as critical information evaluation, fact-checking, and media literacy promotion. Attitudes towards the infodemic were assessed across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, with results indicating that most professionals maintained a positive outlook despite the difficulties. The study further identified significant relationships between the challenges faced, coping mechanisms adopted, and attitudes held by information professionals. The findings underscore the need for continuous professional development in misinformation management, institutional support for librarians in digital literacy initiatives, and collaborative efforts between information professionals, policymakers, and the public to mitigate the effects of infodemics. These results contribute valuable insights for enhancing information literacy programs and reinforcing the role of librarians as key defenders against misinformation in the digital age.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster of Library and Information Scienc

The collected data was processed using SPSS and statistical tools such as frequency count, percentages, mean, and standard deviations for descriptive data-analysis; t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson’s r for inferential analysis, set at .05 level of significance. The results showed that majority of the participants are female, rural residents, and with monthly family income of 5,001-10,000 yuan, and most of them are eldest in the family. Results showed a low level of school-related overall stress as a whole group and when grouped according to sex, place of residence, sibling rank, and average monthly family income. Their psychological, emotional, social, examination, and behavioral stresses were also found to be at a low level, except for the middle children who showed moderate level of examination stress. Across groups in terms of sex, place of residence, sibling rank, and average monthly family income, students’ psychological resilience in terms of parental support was also moderate. The students’ level of self-concordance as a whole group and across sex, place of residence, sibling rank, and average monthly family income was moderate. Significant differences existed in the school-related stress among students when classified according to sibling rank, except for emotional stress. But when they were classified according to sex, place of residence, and average monthly family income, no significant results were found. Significant difference existed in the psychological resilience between the male and female students in terms of social support-friends, while their overall psychological resilience showed no significant difference. Emotional resilience of college students with single parents
Full text availableThis study explored the emotional resilience of college students raised by single parents and enrolled in a private higher education institution, specifically Central Philippine University. Utilizing a quantitative research design, the study gathered data from 305 purposively and snowball-sampled respondents through both face-to-face and online surveys. A two-part instrument was employed: a Personal Factors questionnaire, which included the Introversion-Extroversion Scale, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale 25 (CD-RISC 25) to assess emotional resilience levels. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25, with descriptive and inferential techniques such as the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test and Kruskal-Wallis Test. Findings revealed varied emotional resilience scores across different parent-child sex combinations, family income brackets, and personality traits. In particular, respondents in father-son households and extroverted individuals recorded lower resilience scores. However, results showed no statistically significant differences in emotional resilience when analyzed according to parent-child sex combination, family income, and introversion- extroversion traits. The study concluded that emotional resilience among Filipino college students raised by single parents may be more deeply influenced by cultural and relational factors, such as familial closeness and community support, rather than by financial status or personality traits alone. Based on these findings, the study offers recommendations for students, parents, mental health professionals, guidance counselors, government agencies, and future researchers to better support and understand the emotional development of students from single-parent households.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Psycholog
