How should we think about common prosperity and challenges in the context of financialization?
Get PDFJournal articleChina is actively promoting common prosperity to address the contradiction of unbalanced and inadequate development. Financialization has become the backdrop for common prosperity. How understanding the changing connotations of common prosperity and the factors influencing it in this context becomes the subject of this paper. We argue that the imbalance between income from assets and labor and the new forms of value generation are the reasons why common prosperity is difficult to achieve. To justify this conclusion, this paper examines financialization from the critical perspective of the Marxist political economy, cites the financialization case in China and discusses the real and ideological challenges facing common prosperity. No full textFull text availableHealth centers serve as the first and vital point of contact for many individuals seeking primary healthcare services, including preventive care, vaccinations, screenings, and treatment of common illnesses. The Municipality of Tigbauan has a single health center that lacks some essential primary health amenities, consequently, remote isolated communities often receive insufficient attention, leading to this proposed two-story Super Health Center. The Super Health Center is an upgraded version of a rural health unit, which can be accessible to remote areas. The study includes the architectural, structural, electrical and plumbing plans as well as cost estimates, and construction schedule. Design provisions from several codes were considered, ensuring a thorough approach to building safety and compliance. The health center stands out by offering both X-ray scanning and a clinical lab with a dedicated room storage under one roof, ensuring accessible healthcare diagnostics. Green building technology was used, considering orientation for climate and solar alignment, and prioritizing large windows in rooms that require proper lighting. The estimated project cost is PHP 16,926,263, with a 32-week project duration. The funds will be from the Department of Health (DOH) Region VI and shall be implemented by the Local Government Unit of Tigbauan. Corporate social responsibility and corporate performance among private enterprises in Hebi City
Get PDFJournal articleThis study, aimed to determine the corporate social responsibility and corporate performance among private enterprises in Hebi City in the year 2021, utilized the survey-correlational research design. The respondents in the study were 427 top managers who were stratified randomly selected from 9172 private enterprises in Hebi City. The results revealed that respondents show significant differences in terms of managers’ age, sex, education background. From the difference analysis, it can be seen that those private enterprise top managers do not understand and practice corporate social responsibility quite well, for the entire environment in Hebi City do not require those private enterprises assuming too much social responsibility except the economic responsibility or the corporate social responsibilities to community. Thus in the correlation analysis, it can be seen that there is not much relationship between corporate social responsibility and corporate performance. This implies that it is essential for businesses, governments, and societies to engage in conversation with one another to improve the understanding and practice of private enterprises assuming corporate social responsibility.Central Philippine Universit
Design, fabrication, and testing of a portable cylindrical-type cassava peeling machine
Get PDFAbstract onlyThe aim of the study was to design, fabricate and test the performance of a cassava peeling machine. Fabrication was done in Brgy. Poblacion, Banate, Iloilo from August 2021 to September 2021 followed by the conduct of pre-testing and evaluation at the same location on December 2021. The machine is composed of: (a) peeling chamber where peeling occurs, (b) hatch where cassava is loaded, (c) pulley system where the prime mover is installed, (d) outlet chute where peelings are discharged, (e) 7 Hp internal combustion engine which drives the machine, and (f) support frame where the peeling chamber is placed. The machine has an overall dimension of 1000 mm L x 1320 mm W x 1400 mm H. Results of the study showed that the optimal speed of peeling the cassava in the peeling chamber is 50 rpm to 56 rpm. The average operating time of the machine with an initial loading capacity of 50 kg is 4.02 min. The rated capacity of the machine is 12.46 kg/min or equivalent to 744.23 kg/hr. It has a peeling efficiency of 80.31% and an average flesh loss of 19.96%. The consumption rate of the machine is 116.67 mL of diesel and is calculated to be 29.12 mL/min. The machine can be fabricated using locally available materials and it has an investment cost of PHP40,000.00. Further computation revealed that the cost of operating the machine was PHP1.54/min. Innovation management and refund performance among the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Assisted Enterprises: Implications to an enhancement program
Get PDFJournal articleThis study analyzed the relationship between innovation management and refund performance of the MSMEs assisted by DOST in Western Visayas. Also, it investigated whether significant differences would exist in the innovation management and refund performance of the firms when grouped according to the characteristics of the firm and the owner. The study used a survey-correlational design utilizing a self-administered questionnaire on innovation available in the public domain. The respondents are owners or key personnel selected through stratified simple random sampling from a population of 341 assisted firms. There were 92 MSMEs that participated in the study. The statistical tools used were frequency count and percentage, mean, and standard deviation for descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test for inferential statistics with a significance test set at .05. The results suggest that innovation management had no relationship with the refund performance of the MSMEs. Location, number of employees, and size affect firms’ active implementation of product innovations. Also, the number of employees and size influence their active execution of organizational innovations. The owner’s long business experience affects their high refund performance. A strategic location facilitates easy access to sources and suppliers of raw materials, transportation, labor, utilities, and customers, among others that fuel product innovations. The number of employees and size affect their capacity to implement product innovation since the creation of new products requires more than a few workers and investment from the company. The owners with long business experience are more committed to repaying their financial obligations because they want to maintain their good creditworthiness rating.Central Philippine Universit
