Instructional materials: A comprehensive ChatGPT-assisted definition
Theories and applications in the field of education are interconnected. Thus, stakeholders in education—teachers and instructional leaders in particular—would benefit from having a thorough understanding of important educational terms, like instructional materials, for this could lead to better understanding and realization of teaching-learning results. To attain the main objectives of the study, the researcher conducted a thorough related literature search and examination of the definitions/descriptions of the term in order to analyze the meanings from different authors. Then, with the aid of the ChatGPT, the researcher eventually created a comprehensive definition of the term and determined what resources were qualified and those that did not fall in the category of the term. Although authors provided diverse definitions and meanings of the term, they generally converged on defining them as resources employed by educators to facilitate the teaching-learning process. The primary purpose of instructional materials is to support the teaching process, stimulate students’ interest, and improve knowledge retention by providing realistic and experiential learning opportunities. Likewise, to foster positive student outcomes by enhancing engagement, concretizing ideas, and complementing traditional teaching methods. Instructional materials are essential for the accomplishment of teaching-learning objectives and goals, which set them apart from resources that do not have direct educational function or those resources that do not directly contribute to the teaching-learning process
Exploring life away from home: A phenomenological study
Abstract onlyExperiencing such a transitional phase from adolescence to young adulthood can be quite a challenge especially now that society has just slowly recovered from the pandemic. The main goal of this qualitative phenomenological study is to have an in- depth understanding of the lived experiences of students living away from home. In this study, purposive and snowball sampling methods were employed to select five (5) tertiary students from a private university as participants. They were subjected to inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure their suitability for participation in the research. The researchers followed procedures such as providing an audit trail and the triangulation method to ensure validity and reliability. A semi-structured interview which consisted of one (1) macro and two (2) micro questions was used for this study. The raw data was transcribed and then input into the Qualitative Data Analysis Miner to initiate the Thematic Analysis process by generating initial codes. Braun and Clark's Thematic Analysis method served as the guiding framework. From the five narratives, a total of three (3) major themes emerged along with sub-themes respectively: 1) Difficulties and Struggles, 2) A Journey to Self Discovery, and 3) Sustaining Factors. The results of the study show that students who live independently have faced certain difficulties due to the increase in responsibilities with chores and their academic-related duties. Nonetheless, the experience was also a learning ground for the students as they journeyed to discover themselves, adjust to the new environment, establish relationships, and learn to cope and conquer hardships.Bachelor of Science in Psycholog
Halal food and drinks: A phenomenological inquiry of an Islamic law perspective
Abstract onlyThis study explores the lived experiences of individuals who adhere to Islamic dietary laws regarding the consumption of halal food and drinks. It investigates the influence of cultural and social factors on the perception and experience of halal consumption and examines challenges related to halal food certification. The research also aims to inform the development of marketing strategies for halal products. Seven Muslim participants were selected using purposive sampling, and subjected to one-on-one semi-structured interviews. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed to analyze the data, resulting in seven key themes: (1) Lived Experience of Adherence to Islamic Dietary Laws, (2) Cultural and Social Influences, (3) Overcoming Challenges, (4) Understanding Consumer Perception, and (5) Recommendations for Improving Halal Offerings. The findings highlight that halal consumption is seen as a religious duty tied to faith, spiritual purity, and cleanliness. Cultural and social influences, particularly family traditions and community values, play a significant role in shaping halal dietary practices. However, challenges such as mistrust in halal labeling, counterfeit certifications, and vendor dishonesty were identified. Participants emphasized the importance of halal certification for ensuring compliance with Islamic law, but skepticism remained due to mislabeling. Recommendations for improving the halal food market include clearer labeling, dedicated halal sections in stores, and enhanced transparency through digital media and social platforms. Theoretical insights suggest that Information Processing Theory and the Health Belief Model (HPAM) can enhance halal labeling and marketing strategies. The study's practical implications emphasize the need for transparency, better certification systems, and culturally tailored marketing to boost consumer confidence and expand the halal market in multicultural settings.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster in Business Administratio
Stress and stress-coping strategies among evangelical pastors as related to their adversity quotient: Implications to pastoral counseling, training, and development
Abstract onlyThis survey-correlational research aimed to determine the stress and stress-coping strategies among evangelical pastors as related to their adversity quotient, and their implications to pastoral counseling, training, and development. The participants of the study were124 evangelical pastors of International Care Ministry (ICM), who were classified according to sex, civil status, education, income, occupation, and religious affiliation. This study adopted the following data-gathering instruments: Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), Brief COPE, and Adversity Quotient Scale. Frequency counts, percentage analyses, means, ranks, and standard deviations were used in the descriptive data analysis; the t-test for independent samples, and Pearson’s r, were used to analyze the inferential data. Results revealed moderate levels of stress among the participants as a whole, and when classified according to sex, civil status, education, income, occupation, and religious affiliation. The most frequently used adaptive coping strategies were problem-focused approach, emotion focused, and avoidant focused; ranked accordingly in that order. No significant differences existed in the participants’ level of stress, as well as, in stress-coping strategies when classified according to sex, civil status, education, income, and religious affiliation. However, significant differences existed among the participants classified according to occupation. On the other hand, no significant differences existed in the adversity quotients among the participants classified according to sex, civil status, education, income, occupation, and religious affiliation. A moderate positive correlation existed between coping strategies and adversity quotients, indicating that effective coping strategies improves resilience. A nonsignificant correlation existed between stress level and adversity quotient, which seems to indicate that resilience is more dependent on coping than on the intensity of stress. The study recommends that customized pastoral care programs be given to pastors to help them manage stress and improve resilience by adapting coping strategies.Include bibliographical referencesMaster of Arts in Education (Guidance and Counseling
The role of tariffs and exchange rates on ASEAN trade facilitation indices and China's cross-border e-commerce export scale
Journal articleThe objective of this study is to explore how tariff policies and exchange rate fluctuations affect the level of trade facilitation in ASEAN countries and impact the export scale of China's cross-border e-commerce (CBEC). Based on the development model of CBEC, a trade facilitation assessment framework was developed that includes four core dimensions and fourteen refined indicators. Principal Component Analysis was used to quantitatively evaluate and compare the degree of trade facilitation among ASEAN countries. To verify the moderating effect of tariffs and exchange rates, a regression analysis was used based on the gravity model for empirical exploration, setting tariff levels and exchange rates as key moderating variables. Findings show that the trade facilitation index of ASEAN countries has a significant positive effect on China's CBEC exports and is a key factor in predicting the size of CBEC exports. However, the increase in tariffs and unfavorable fluctuations in exchange rates weaken the positive relationship between trade facilitation indicators and CBEC exports. To promote sustained growth of export trade among ASEAN countries and China, priority on improving trade facilitation is crucial and to regularly monitor the changes in tariffs and exchange rates to ensure appropriate strategies are formulated to mitigate their adverse effects.Central Philippine Universit
Proposed two-storey Local Government Unit (LGU) training center in Igbaras, Iloilo
Abstract onlyTraining centers are essential resources that support a municipality's economic growth by transforming unskilled laborers into trained workers and assembling a reliable workforce. The lack of a designated training center in Igbaras limits the LGU to hold these events in substitute venues that cannot accommodate neither a wide variety of trainings nor a great number of participants, leading to locals seeking training in neighboring municipalities. These are the lapses identified that led to this study. Therefore, a two-story local government unit training center is proposed to be constructed in Poblacion, Igbaras, Iloilo. The proposal includes the architectural, electrical, plumbing and structural design for the facility with the provisions of the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP 2015), National Building Code of the Philippines, Electrical Code of the Philippines, and National Plumbing Code of the Philippines being utilized for the various plans of the project. Specifications, cost estimates and project scheduling are also included in the proposal. Furthermore, green building elements such as solar panels, natural lighting, and LED light fixtures are integrated in the design. The proposed structure covers a floor area of 288 sq. meters per level and is expected to be complete in 252 days with an estimated cost of Php 20,902,586.36. The project will be fully funded by the Local Government Unit of Igbaras. Upon completion, it is recommended to install safety and security measures such as Fire and Detection Alarm System (FDAS) and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Civil Engineerin
