Will There Be a Pill for That? ‘Money Dysmorphia’ and the Medicalization of Struggles for Subsistence

    Get PDF
This article questions the rationality, operation, and effects of money dysmorphia as an emerging mental health diagnosis. It critiques the medicalization of financial angst amid the capitalist “polycrisis”, showing how the individuation and somatic pathologization of class subordination, socioeconomic precarity, and struggles for subsistence obscure capitalist inequalities, depoliticize them, and shield them from critique. I identify five concurrent strategies through which struggles for subsistence are medicalized: trivialization, reversal of social import, repetition, direct depoliticization, and the substitution of inequality with poverty. Furthermore, I show how the medicalizing discourse reifies money dysmorphia by constructing its social costs. The article concludes by reflecting on the risks of medicalizing financial apprehension

Datasets Associated with Caballero et al. (2025): Sentinel-3 Coastal Analysis Ready Data (S3CARD): An Operational Framework for Coastal Water Applications

    No full text
This dataset provides access to twelve .zip archives containing pre-processed tiles from the S3CARD (Sentinel-3 Coastal Analysis Ready Data) framework. Each archive corresponds to a 2.5° × 2.5° coastal grid that includes an AERONET-OC (Aerosol Robotic Network – Ocean Color) station used for validation in Caballero et al. (2025). The data include atmospherically corrected, glint- and adjacency-corrected surface reflectance images derived from Sentinel-3 OLCI imagery. Each tile includes: - 21-band surface reflectance images in GeoTIFF format (valid water pixels only) - Metadata files with acquisition geometry and processing details These datasets support reproducibility and enable users to evaluate the S3CARD product\u27s performance across a wide range of coastal water types, including both optically clear (Case-1) and complex (Case-2) conditions. More information and how to cite: If you use this dataset in your research, please cite the following article: Caballero, C. B., Martins, V. S., Paulino, R. S., Lima, T. M. A., Butler, E., Sparks, E. CHECK Video-Enhanced Activity Schedules for Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

    No full text
Video-enhanced activity schedule (VidAS) embeds a video model within a visual schedule, then links the images in the visual schedule to a video model clip, completing the step represented in each image. VidAS could leverage the strength of standard visual schedules and offer learners on the autism spectrum extra support to illustrate a sequence of events, prepare them for the following step within an activity or chain of activities, and model them to independently learn and complete a series of activities or tasks. Practitioners could use VidAS across settings, age groups, and skills and behaviors for individuals on the autism spectrum. The purpose of this manuscript is to present the key steps for creating and implementing VidAS using the acronym CHECK. Special education and general education teachers or professionals can utilize the CHECK strategy to create VidAS and increase the participation and independence of their students on the autism spectrum
