Bases of words in Kinyarwanda: Ambiguity in examinations
Considering the Questions that are prepared in the Kinyarwanda examinations and the ways of marking them, the concept of “base” is ambiguous. The question is formulated as follows: “Mention the bases of the following/underlined words.” Through this question, it is wondered if all words have “bases” and if all words have such morpheme. Additionally, in some words, such a morpheme is called “root”. Different materials differentiate the base and root of words saying that the base comes from words like nouns, mixed nouns, adjectives, and pronouns whilst the root is found on the verb and other words formed from it. In marking, when a candidate answers a base in the place of a root, he is not awarded marks, because he is supposed to know that there is a place where he must present the base, and root in the other place, depending on the type of word. For that, researchers wonder the reasons why examiners ask to mention the bases of the words when they include some words that have roots. This study “Bases of Words in Kinyarwanda: Ambiguity in Examinations”, first, discusses all words that have bases, followed by words that have roots. Further, it discusses the difference between base and root. It also presents the relationship between base and root and ends with the decision for a term that should be used in all questions related to this topic, that term may be used to help the candidates to identify if their answers should be “base or root”
Phytochemical, antioxidant, phenolic, and mineral composition of Mangifera indica L. (mango) and Persea Americana Mill. (avocado) seed and exocarp (peel)
Fruits are known for their nutrients and therapeutic potentials. This study aimed at determining the phytochemical constituents, antioxidative prowess, mineral constituents, and total phenolic composition of Mangifera indica (mango) and Persea americana (avocado) fruits’ seeds and their exocarps (peel) respectively. The phytochemical screenings were carried out using standard techniques, and saponins, terpenes, steroids, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids and anthraquinones were detected. Both the seeds and peels’ samples of M. indica and P. americana have high percentage of antioxidant activities as recorded with DPPH method at varying concentrations. The mineral analysis of both fruits’ samples has potassium in highest amount (127 - 163mg/L), followed by calcium (11 – 26 mg/L), magnesium (6 – 13mg/L), sodium (1.99 – 7.14 mg/L), then iron (2.7 – 4.14 mg/L) in that order. Both lead, chromium and copper were undetected in the samples. The total phenolic contents of the samples were measured using the Follin-Ciocalteus reagent at varied concentrations and their values reported in mg/g of GAE. Both are a good source of fibre, vitamin C and E, minerals and antioxidants with only a few calories

Uncovering cybercrime tactics: Studying emerging linguistic features and forms of Swahili fraudulent SMS in Tanzania
The majority of Tanzanians have fallen victim to cybercrime committed by imposters via SMS, the popular short messaging service. The victims have been tricked into sending money or engaging in fraudulent activities by those SMSs. The current research set out to study the fraudulent SMSs sent among Tanzanians. The study was guided by two objectives: firstly, to identify the forms of fraudulent SMSs, and secondly, to uncover their distinguishing features. A total of 97 fraudulent SMSs were collected from diverse recipients, including the author of this paper, and subjected to qualitative analysis. The linguistic stylistic approach guided the data analysis of the study. The study reveals several forms of fraudulent SMSs, including money transfers, superstition, easy money making, rental and landlord, fake lotteries, extortion, and false employment offers. Furthermore, the study identifies some features contained in those SMS, such as the absence of formal salutations, the sender and recipient\u27s anonymity, typographical errors, distinctive writing styles, and the lack of politeness markers. Money-making and social problem-solving promises, extorting, hiding the purpose of money transfers, and impersonation are a few more. The study recommends that to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of fraud orchestrated by cybercriminals, recipients of these SMSs should exercise caution and critical judgment when receiving such SMSs

Bioprospecting for propitious, safe antiepileptic agents from the leaf and root extracts of Calotropis procera (Ait) R. Br.
Epilepsy is a prevalent non-communicable neurological disorder causing recurring seizures, affecting 50 million people globally. Treatments often have limited therapeutic ranges and adverse effects, making it difficult to differentiate from the underlying neurologic condition. Calotropis procera has drawn attention for its potential medicinal uses, including anticancer, anti-convulsant, and other therapeutic properties. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant, toxicity, and anti-epilepsy profile of Calotropis procera. Plant materials were pulverized and extracted sequentially with hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol, and water to yield a series of solvent fractions while another portion was extracted with ethanol using Soxhlet apparatus, and extracts were concentrated using a rotary evaporator. C. procera extracts show potent antioxidant activity, with root extract (IC50: 0.56 mg/ml) surpassing leaf extract (IC50: 0.38 mg/ml), suggesting therapeutic potential in neurodegenerative diseases. Following OECD guidelines, a dosing regimen was established for acute toxicity testing. Calotropis procera extracts were well-tolerated in mice. Notably, a 600 mg/kg dose of ethyl acetate extract delayed seizure onset, indicating promising antiepileptic potential. The antiepileptic effect was assessed using the Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) induced seizure model, a standard test for evaluating anticonvulsant activity. The ethyl acetate root extract had a sedative effect, while, n-hexane, methanol, and aqueous extracts of both leaf and root produced no observable toxic signs. The plant extracts were well tolerated orally in laboratory mice. Calotropis procera ethyl acetate extract showed promising antiepileptic potential, as a 600 mg/kg dose delayed seizure onset in mice and was well-tolerated when administered orally. The result showed a promising antiepileptic potential of the Calotropis procera extract
