The Development of Global Citizenship Through Intercultural Virtual Exchange (IVE): A Systematic Literature Review

    No full text
This systematic literature review (SLR) investigated the role of Intercultural Virtual Exchange (IVE) in the development of global citizenship among students. Drawing on 22 studies published between 2003 and 2022, the review synthesizes findings related to the impact of IVE on intercultural competence, global awareness, and key skills such as empathy, intercultural communication, and critical thinking. The analysis reveals that IVE offers a flexible and sustainable platform for fostering cross-cultural understanding and collaboration. However, it also highlights several challenges, including technological disparities, language barriers, and issues with pedagogical alignment, which may impede its effectiveness. The review emphasizes the significance of a well-structured curriculum, targeted educator training, and the integration of appropriate technological tools to enhance IVE outcomes. Furthermore, it identifies gaps in the literature regarding student attitudes towards IVE, necessitating further research into factors such as motivation, cultural sensitivity, and prior knowledge. The findings suggest that a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach, involving educators, technology experts, and intercultural specialists, is crucial for optimizing the implementation of IVE. This review provides valuable insights into the current state of IVE research and offers practical recommendations for future research and practice in the field of intercultural education and global citizenship development

Peace Literacy Education Based on Conflict Experience in Aceh

This study explores the absence of Aceh’s conflict history in Indonesia’s national history curriculum and its implications for strengthening peace literacy in post-conflict education. Although values such as tolerance, diversity, and peace are emphasized in national curriculum goals, this study finds that these values are taught in isolation from local historical narratives—particularly the conflict between the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Indonesian government. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and a case study method, data were collected through curriculum document analysis, history textbooks, interviews with teachers, and classroom observations in several secondary schools in Aceh. The findings reveal that history teachers face both pedagogical and institutional gaps when attempting to introduce local conflict into the classroom. The lack of teaching guidelines, learning materials, and structural support leads to generic teaching practices that avoid sensitive topics, including Aceh's conflict. As a result, students are denied access to contextual, reflective, and experience-based understandings of peace and history. This study underscores the urgency of integrating local history and peace literacy as part of reconciliatory education and calls for curriculum reform to reposition history education as a transformative, rather than merely normative, pedagogical space

The Relationship Between Science Process Skills and Concept Mastery Using Practical Methods

Science process skills and conceptual mastery are two crucial aspects. Conceptual mastery involves understanding scientific concepts, while science process skills encompass the ability to conduct scientific work, apply concepts, predict and inquire, interpret and communicate, hypothesize, conclude, plan, and conduct experiments. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between science process skills and conceptual mastery through practical methods. The research method employed is quantitative with a correlational design. The study population includes all 11th-grade MIPA students at SMA Negeri 1 Bumi Agung, Lampung, with cluster random sampling used to select Class XI MIPA 1 as the sample. Data collection involved observation sheets and tests. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. The correlation analysis began with testing prerequisites such as normality and linearity, confirming that the data were normally distributed and linear. The correlation between science process skills and conceptual mastery yielded an pearson correlation coefficient (r) of 0.940 with N = 32. The critical value (r-table) was 0.349. Since 0.940 > 0.349 and the significance value (2-tailed) was 0.00 < 0.05, H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, indicating a very strong relationship between science process skills and conceptual mastery through practical methods. Theoretically, these findings affirm the importance of practice-based learning in strengthening conceptual understanding. Practically, the results recommend integrating structured laboratory activities to enhance students’ scientific inquiry skills and conceptual mastery.Science process skills and conceptual mastery are two crucial aspects. Review of Secondary Metabolite Identification Methods and Antimicrobial Activities of Tubers in Indonesian

The activity of inhibiting bacterial growth has been extensively studied from various natural materials in Indonesia. One part of plants which is contains active compounds that inhibit bacterial growth is local tubers such as gadung, sweet potatoes, porang, suweg, and several other types of tubers. The bacterial inhibitory secondary metabolite compounds contained in tubers like saponins, tannins, quinones, flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenols. These compounds exhibit antibacterial activity in the form of inhibition zone diameters against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella sp. The 15% methanol extract of Angiotepris sp. tubers, containing flavonoid and phenolic compounds, exhibited the best inhibition zone diameter against Staphylococcus aureus, measuring 28.4 mm. This article explains the differences in bacterial inhibition activity demonstrated by 13 types of tubers, with a total of 79 variations in extraction treatments, including the concentrations and solvents used. Keywords: antibacterial, secondary metabolites, tubers, inhibitors, inhibition zon
