C-Reactive Protein/Albumin (Crp/Alb) Ratio as a Predictor of Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer with a high incidence and mortality rate in Indonesia and worldwide. C-reactive protein (CRP) is an inflammatory marker meanwhile albumin is an indicator of nutritional deficiencies in ovarian cancer. This study is a diagnostic test for ovarian cancer in women aged >18 years and without previous history of ovarian cancer who underwent laparotomy or laparoscopy at Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital, Denpasar. Samples were taken by consecutive sampling. CRP examination was carried out in the laboratory by immunoturbidimetry method using the CRP Latex Kit (Roche) and measured using a Cobas integra 501 at a wavelength of 552 nm. The gold standard to diagnosed ovarian cancer was according to histopathological examination. A total of 69 women with ovarian tumors were recruited into the study which consisted of 40 ovarian cancers and 29 benign ovarian tumors. A significantly higher median CRP/Albumin ratio was found in ovarian cancer patients compared to benign ovarian tumors (6.9 vs 0.45; p=0.001). The optimal CRP/albumin ratio cut-off value was 1.34. The diagnostic capability of the CRP/Albumin ratio was found to be the best in diagnosing cancer at an advanced stage with a sensitivity of 86.9%, specificity of 68.9%, PPV of 68.9%, NPV of 86.9%, accuracy of 76.9%, positive likelihood ratio 2.8 and negative likelihood ratio 0.2. CRP/Albumin ratio can a potential diagnostic tool for ovarian cancer especially in advanced stage
Autologus Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in Vitro Fertilization Antagonist Protocol Caused Homeobox A 10 (HOXA10) Expression in the Endometrium of Wistar Strained Rats Higher Than Without Autologous PRP
Endometrial receptivity is highly correlated with the implantation rate, whereby in Indonesia, the implantation rate among in vitro fertilisation programs is still low, around 19.3%. Antagonist ovarian stimulation protocol can disrupt physiological endocrine milieu by the presence of supra-physiological levels of estrogen and progesterone, both of which are thought to indirectly affect the expression of adhesion molecule cells. Homeobox A 10 (HOXA10) is among one of the biomarkers used to assess endometrial receptivity. The role of HOXA10 is critical during the stage of endometrial development and embryo implantation, both in mice and human. This molecule is thought to work optimally by administering autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) to the damaged endometrium. The aim of this study was to prove that administration of PRP in an antagonist protocol HOXA10 expression in the endometrium of Wistar rats higher than without PRP. This research was an experimental study. The design for this study was randomized posttest only controlled group, using female Wistar-strain rats type. A total of 40 Wistar rats whose ovary were stimulated by the GnRH antagonist protocol were divided into 2 groups, 20 rats as intervention group in which PRP administration was done and 20 rats as control group. It was found that during the study, there was no significant difference between intervention and control group regarding age and body weight of the Wistar rats, both at the start and at the end of the study. The results of HOXA10 H-score in the intervention group was 3.15 (2.86-3.52) and in the control group was 1.68 (1.43-2.18) (p <0.05). Administration of PRP to ovarian stimulation with an antagonist protocol showed significantly higher expression of endometrial HOXA10 in Wistar rats than without PRP administration
THE EFFECT OF GARLIC (Allium sativum Linn) SKIN EXTRACT ON NITRIC OXIDE AND TNF-α LEVELS IN ACUTE BACTERIAL SINUSITIS
Background : During the course of the disease, acute bacterial rhinosinusitis produces several inflammatory mediators such as levels of Nitric Oxide (NO) and TNF-α which cause changes in cell and tissue structure. Currently, there is no research on the effect of garlic skin extract on nitric oxide and TNF-α levels in acute bacterial rhinosinusitis. Methods : This post-test only control group design experimental study used 28 male white rats of the Sprague Dawley strain which were divided into 4 groups, namely a control group, a group of rats with bacterial acute sinusitis without treatment, a group of rats with acute bacterial sinusitis with amoxicillin antibiotics and anti-inflammatory prednisolone, and a group Bacterial acute sinusitis rats with the antibiotic amoxicillin and garlic skin extract. The study was conducted for 21 days, on the 22nd day blood samples were taken from the orbital vein and measured levels of NO and TNF- α using an ELISA reader. Results : The mean levels of TNF- α in the first to fourth groups respectively were 6.13 ± 0.31 ng/mL; 17.68 ± 4.29 ng/mL ; 6.65 ± 0.43 ng/mL ; 6.86 ± 0.26 ng/mL. The analysis showed that the data were normally distributed and not homogeneous. The One Way ANOVA test showed that there were at least two groups of data that had a significant mean difference (p < 0.05). The results of the LSD Post Hoc Test showed a significant difference between group K against P1, P2 and P3, group P1 against P2 and P3. And there was no significant difference between the P2 and P3 groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion : The administration of garlic skin extract (Allium sativum Linn) affected the levels of NO and TNF- in rats with acute bacterial sinusitis induced by Staphylococcus aureus
