Impact of gamification on brain activity and learner performance: an in class concurrent measurement
The optimal application of gamified methods in the teaching of Physiology requires research, as evidence on its impact is rudimentary. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of gamification on learner attitudes, student performance scores, and brainwave activity in a Physiology learning environment. A cohort of 14 students from the first year Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice program were randomly assigned to the gamified (G) and non-gamified (N-G) groups. The G group participated in a gamified activity, while the N-G group participated in a didactic teaching setting. The students were assessed on the same content. Electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings were measured using a MyndBand device during student participation in the assigned activities. Software algorithms computed attention and meditation brainwave signals that had been recorded during the testing sessions. The results of the study revealed higher performance scores in the G group when compared to the N-G group. Results also showed a higher median brainwave activity for attention signals in the G than in the N-G group. There was a positive correlation between median attention signals and performance scores. These preliminary findings on the use of gamification in a Physiology classroom setting indicate an improved cognitive outcome that is substantiated by the EEG brainwave attention signals
Psychological Factors Related to Fibromyalgia Syndrome Phenomenon
Fibromyalgia is a chronic rheumatic syndrome characterized mainly by diffuse musculoskeletal pain. Its diagnosis is clinical and the presence of 15 to 18 tender specific painful body sites (tender points), with no specific laboratory alterations. It is often associated with other symptoms such as constant fatigue, swelling, morning stiffness, difficulty in memorizing and concentrating, mood swings, anxiety, and depression, among others. This condition mainly affects women, bringing a considerable negative impact on carriers. Pain perception is the result of multiple factors: biological, social, and psychological. This study sought through qualitative research to recognize the psychosocial factors related to fibromyalgia, as well as identify the possible meanings to suffering, seeking to contribute to elucidate the psychogenic phenomena related to the pain of Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Finally, to analyze if patients who are undergoing psychotherapy follow-up benefit from the symptoms caused by chronic pain of fibromyalgia. The result is divided into three categories: Implications of the diagnosis in social relations, repercussions of the diagnosis on the interviewees' quality of life, and psycho-affective symptoms experienced by the interviewed fibromyalgia patients. According to the research, it was observed physical limitation, adding severe pain, memory impairment, concentration, excessive fatigue, resulting in psychic suffering characterized as guilt, frustration, depression, anxiety, and self-image affected. In this study, ten female patients with a mean age of 40.2 years were interviewed, of which 30% are undergoing psychological follow-up, which resulted in greater acceptance of their comorbidity and coping with it
Wind Effect on Microclimate and Thermal Comfort Index in Open-air Public Spaces in the Brazilian Rainforest Cities
Amazon cities and rural villages came to fragment its green spaces, implying changes in the quality of life of its population. Despite clear warning signs, this picture of environmental degradation processes has affected flora and fauna with severe consequences throughout the forest, from points that tend to widen over time. Supported on a literature review of microclimate research in environments, which is based on the dew point temperature, another suitability has been formulated considering the importance of wind speed. By using computational records, when this variable is contained in the characterization of a person's sense of well-being in a given outdoor environment, a thermal comfort index can be established to assist in planning the construction of appropriate leisure areas, as well as identifying unhealthy environments. The results were obtained in different places, during drier summer months in the Amazon rainforest, around the city of Belém, located in the extreme north of Brazil. The best responses were registered in an environment characterized by arboreal architecture planning, followed by an environment with an intact vegetation forest
Eulerian Video Magnification for Cleaning and Inspection of Air Conditioning Ducts With Rover Robot
This paper presents a diversied artifice of a Rover robot prototype in order to inspect abnormalities in air conditioning ducts and ventilation through an integrated rotating high-resolution camera system Eulerian Video Magnification is a method capable of revealing temporal variations of a body in videos that are impossible to see with the naked eye. Using this method, it is possible to visualize the flow of microorganisms present in the ducts, in which the images are R.W. transmitted in real time to the operator, allowing the cleaning with rotating brushes that adapt themselves according to the pipeline geometry, linked to the rover making the removal of impurities which are found on the walls, as well as the application of fungicides and bactericides, and finally the mechanism structure allows the manipulation of small objects held by a claw, which ensures greater operating flexibility compared to existing systems on the market. Due to weather problems being the main responsible for the considerable rise in temperature around the world, this has led man to seek ways by which people have comfort in both residential and industrial context. The most widely used alternative to soften or even solve this problem indoors has been the use of air conditioning systems. Despite the many advantages that these systems provide, there is great concern with the quality of air being supplied to the user according to the procedures and requirements of NBR 15848: 2010
THE TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION AND THE NEW PROFILE OF THE ACCOUNTING PROFESSIONAL WITH THE ENTRY OF DIGITAL INNOVATION
Accounting has its development aligned with the progress of humanity. With globalization, the accounting area had to adapt to market needs. The professionals inserted in this evolution face significant challenges, of which the search for improvement must prevail. The objective was to analyze the impacts of the Technological Revolution on the accounting performance of professionals in the exercise of their duties and the new profile required with the innovation of the digital age. The methodological aspects included the accomplishment of bibliographical research, using references in the updated temporal nexus, with publications from 2015. The results indicate the extreme importance of the permanent improvement of accounting professionals, in search of constant changes inherent to the developed activities, because the valuation of the accounting profession will only happen if professionals are aware that the new challenges are opportunities for growth and expansion of the profession. This is the pace of digital innovation
OBTAINING GRAPHITE OXIDE FROM MECHANICAL GRAPHITE GRINDING
Este trabalho buscou obter óxido de grafite a partir da aplicação do moinho de bolas de alta energia (HEBM). O processo de moagem ocorreu inserindo 4 g da amostra de grafite comercial no HEBM pelos períodos de 30min, 1 hora e 4 horas. A análise por microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) foi utilizada para a caracterização morfológica das amostras. A análise da difratometria de raios X (DRX) permitiu medir as distâncias interplanares obtidas a partir da trituração da amostra, além de avaliar a diferença estrutural entre as amostras pós-solo obtidas pelo processo de amorfização mecânica. Os resultados indicaram que o aumento no tempo de moagem perturbou a ordem estrutural da grafite e aumentou a distância interplanar das amostras pós-solo em comparação com a grafite precursora
Climate and Energy Policies in Brazil: a dialogue on CCS activities to promote carbon dioxide emissions reduction
Considering the interaction between climate and energy policies, this paper analyzes the activities of Carbon Capture and Storage in the Brazilian context of public choices. The methodology of the work consists of normative and bibliographical revision, using the qualitative and deductive methods. The hypothesis of this research corroborates the thesis that the governance of Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage activities in Brazil is found in the already existing configuration proposed for public policies directed to climate and energy changes in the country
MANAGEMENT OF INTANGIBLE ASSETS IN PRIVATE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS:: THE INCENTIVE TO TITRATION X FINANCIAL IMPACT
This article aims to evaluate the financial impact of teacher’s academic degree for Higher Education Institutions’ (HEI) management and answers the following research problem: what is the financial impact in HEI’s management in the incentive to teachers’ professional qualification and academic degree? Methodologically is about a case study inside the universe of private HEI which sample was chosen randomly. It was used descriptive statistics. For that it was shown data in four tables followed by their descriptions with previous discussion of results presented that reveals a big financial impact to HEI, which makes necessary the assertive decision making by the management
IMPROVEMENT IN PRODUCTIVITY OF INCUBATION OF THERMAL HANDLING OF EGGS OF DISTINCT LIGHT MATRIX WEIGHTS
The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the influence of thermal manipulation on the improvement of hatching eggs of different weights of light matrices in the last embryonic stage. The experiment was carried out in a commercial hatchery of light laying hens, located in Birigui - SP, Brazil. 1950 light-colored eggs of the Dekalb White commercial strain were used. The eggs were classified among different sizes and n in incubation trays. In the period from 19 to 21 days, two incubator machines were used, where the first machine maintained the temperature and humidity values of the hatchery's standard air (37.0 ° C and 60% RH) and in the second machine the temperature was adjusted to 37.7 ° C with 60% RH. The treatments differed according to the residence time in the second machine, and egg weight (G and M) controls T1 (0h-G) and T6(0h-M), 1 hour T2(1h-G) and T7(1h-M), 3 hours T3(3h-G) and T8(3h-M), 6 hours T4(6h-G) and T9(6h-M) 9 hours T5(9h-G) and T10 (9h-M). The design was completely randomized, in a 2X5 factorial scheme. Regarding thermal stimulation, the best results were observed in the 1h-G treatment. However, in the productive life of these birds, the thermal stimulation showed no influence. Concluded that for large eggs (G), the residence time of 1 hour (T2), obtained a better index of commercially viable females and lower rates of late-stage embryo mortality and shelter
The incorporation of Radio Frequency Identification Technology in health institutions and the determining aspects of adoption
The process of traceability by radio frequency identification system (RFID) is considered one of the biggest contributions of the last years in the health sector. This article aims to study the academic contributions that this technology has brought to the segment in question and the consequent difficulties resulting from the implementation of this technology in the ambit of hospital and outpatient facilities. To carry out this work, we proceeded to survey and literature review in order to select the research related to the topic of RFID in the context of traceability. The data obtained clearly show that the benefits of this tool are numerous, ranging from drug screening to the correct availability of patient data. Although it is imbued with all these advantages, RFID still represents a visible difficulty of insertion in the hospital environment due to economic and security problems in terms of information privacy. However, this new reality is undeniable and its implementation is increasingly present in the medical environment, being a necessity rather than a technological advance
