    Clinical Data, Echocardiography and Surgical Wound Infection of Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery

    Introduction: Due to importance of surgeries for treatment of heart diseases, it is necessary to recognize surgical site infection and other Healthcare-Related Infections as the main post-surgical complications. Objective:  To analyze the association and correlation between clinical and propaedeutic variables with the prevalence of wound infection in patients undergoing cardiac surgery  Methodology:  Quantitative, analytical study with a retrospective approach. Data collection  was performed in the Medical Archive Sector of the Clinical Hospital of Uberlandia (HCU), using a previously structured instrument. Results:  A total of 453 medical records were evaluated, mainly masculine gender (n=313; 69.1%). A time patient hospital stays had a mean of 36.47±28.7days, surgical indication of myocardial revascularization (n=278; 61.4%). The rate of surgical wound infection (SWI) found was 19%. Correlation and clinical associations were: Time of surgery and left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) (r=0,10; p<0,05); time hospital stay and almost all echocardiographic variables, weight and height (p=0.01); Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and left ventricle posterior wall (LVPW) (r=0.16), LVEF (r=0.12) and intraventricular septum (r=0.13), (p<0.01); Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and left ventricle posterior wall (LVPW) (r= 0.10; p<0.01). Conclusion: The study has hight potential to increase scientific evidences and improving  cardiovascular care, cardiovascular surgery field and prevention of healthcare-associated infections

    Exploring of teaching effect of course “vehicle chassis structure” based on the teaching mode of divided class

    University is an important transit station for students to enter social life, undertaking the important mission of personnel training. Nowadays, a series of challenges exists in university education. It is very important to strengthen the teaching effect of cases in the classroom. The course “Vehicle chassis structure” is a compulsory professional course for undergraduate students majoring in automotive engineering. This work has proposed a teaching mode of divided class for the course of “Vehicle chassis structure”. And it can be concluded that the teaching effect can be improved largely via the teaching mode of divided class. The main purpose of this method is to improve students' initiative learning ability and mutual help and cooperation ability

    The Lean Healthcare approach in health services: A Systematic Review of the Literature

    Lean principles are being successfully applied in the most diverse sectors beyond industry. In the health area, the so-called Lean Healthcare is gaining space with the implementation of lean methods that contribute to the maximization of value and quality to the patient. The objective of this work was to carry out a systematic review of the literature to identify and analyze the practice of Lean Healthcare and its tools in hospital environments. Scientific articles available in the database of the CAPES Periodic Portal were selected, and 161 articles were found, among which, 16 were selected. The results point to recent research, with practical applications where case studies are predominant. Lean tools have been applied in several countries to promote improvements in hospital environments, and the main ones are MFV, 5S, Standardization, Kaizen and Kanban. With this study, it was possible to observe that the use of lean techniques in health has been promoting significant benefits in the work environments, in the team's conduct, and the patients' experience, and that the human factor is what most hinders the implementation of these techniques

    The Influence of Gender Stereotyping Dynamics on Appointment of Female Teachers as Secondary School Principals in Makueni Sub-county, Makueni County, Kenya

    Female teachers play an important role in school management. However, their number in positions of school headship is low. The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of gender dynamics on the appointment of female teachers as secondary school principals in Makueni Sub-county, Makueni County, Kenya. The objectives were: to assess the influence of female teachers’ gender roles, self-perception, stereotyping and management training on appointment as secondary school Principals. The study was guided by The Pearson’s Theory of Gender Relations and Feminism Theory. Mixed methodology was applied and thus concurrent triangulation design was adopted. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically along the objectives and presented narrative forms. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using frequencies and percentages and inferentially using linear regression analysis with the help of Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS Version 23) and presented using tables. The study established that gender stereotyping is a major hindrance to female teachers’ desire to seek to positions of headship. The study recommends that educational policy-makers to come up with policies that create positions for women to eliminate gender imbalance in education administration. Policy makers to come up with a curriculum that include gender issues for purpose of sensitizing the community on the social/cultural barriers which cause gender imbalance in education administration. The Ministry of Education should come up with a policy where attendance of workshops and seminars is a compulsory requirement for all teachers in order to build skills and knowledge on their careers and give women chances to compete favorably with men

    The Didactic Contract from the Perspective of the Theory of Didactical Situations: An Integrative Review

    The phenomena related to the mathematical teaching and learning process have a significant and direct influence on the construction of knowledge and studying these issues is of interest to the theory developed by Guy Brousseau, called Theory of Didactical Situations. When dealing with the relations established between student, knowledge and teacher, Brousseau presents those that are specific, explicitly and implicitly, of the relationship between teacher and students, as well as their influences on the teaching and learning process, defining, for this, the Didactic Contract, which consists of the set of behaviors that the teacher expects from the student and the student from the teacher. With this, the following question arose for this work: What is the relevance of the Didactic Contract when designing teaching sequences with input in the Theory of Didactical Situations? The objective was, then, to carry out an integrative review in order to systematize information present in scientific articles about the Didactic Contract in the perspective of the Theory of Didactical Situations. A search for works was carried out in the databases Scielo, Google Scholar and Portal de Periódicos CAPES/MEC through the descriptors "Didactic Contract" and "Theory of Didactical Situations", with the following exclusion criteria: works not related to the theme and book, theses, dissertations and monographs. That is, only papers of the scientific article type were chosen. A total of one hundred and seventy-seven works were obtained as an initial result, of which thirteen were repeated. After reading the abstracts and adopting the exclusion criteria, sixteen articles remained, of which nine responded to the elaborated question. With the research, it was found, in the period consulted, a limitation of publications that deal specifically with the Didactic Contract and, in spite of that, it was concluded that the Didactic Contract is a very important element in a teaching and learning situation, because it can favor or cause an obstacle in the acquisition of new knowledge by the student

    Hydrogen Peroxide Production in an Electrochemical Flow-by Reactor using Gas Diffusion Electrodes Modified with Organic Redox Catalysts

    This paper presents a proposal to use an electrochemical flow-by reactor for hydrogen peroxide electrogeneration using cathodes formed from the incorporation of organic redox catalysts (2-ethylanthraquinone, 2-tert-butylanthraquinone, alizarin, and azobenzene) in the structure of gas diffusion electrodes. These electrodes help circumvent the low solubility of oxygen in aqueous solutions. Organic redox catalysts, which typically contain quinone or azo groups in their structure, were added to the electrode mass in a 10% proportion. The electrodes were used to study the electrogeneration of hydrogen peroxide in situ, in an acid medium (0.1 mol L-1 H2SO4 and 0.1 mol L-1 K2SO4, pH 1), inside an electrochemical flow-by reactor. Comparative analysis among the different catalysts indicated that the best electrode for hydrogen peroxide electrogeneration was the gas diffusion electrode modified with 10% of 2-ethylanthraquinone. With an underflow rate of 200 L h-1, hydrogen peroxide was formed with a maximum yield of 998.12 mg L-1 after 2 h at -2.0 V vs Pt//Ag/AgCl, for which the energy consumption was 11.21 kWh kg-1. The use of the electrochemical flow-by reactor was much more efficient, in that it yielded higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide with extremely low energy consumption, compared to that obtained when using an electrochemical cell. In addition, for ensuring appropriate usage of the electrodes, optimizing their potential for the maximum generation of hydrogen peroxide, and obtaining the highest efficiency for the reduction of oxygen, a fuzzy algorithm was developed to help support the user’s decision

    The new pneumonia caused by coronavirus 2 of severe acute respiratory syndrome (COVID-19) has the potential to develop biopsychosocial instability in the population and is responsible for much of the increase in mental disorders that occur after the beginning of the pandemic, especially among health professionals working on the front line. Physical exhaustion and mental distress leads them to search alternative therapies for harm reduction, such as therapeutic communication therapies, active listening, meditation, mindfulness and yoga. Such actions can decrease stress and have potential harm reduction in relation to the development of posttraumatic stress disorder. In addition, religiosity and/or spirituality reduced the psychological suffering of health workers, not only in moments of pandemic, but in the daily work routines

    Process of Establishment And In Vitro Development of Simaba Cedron Planch Seedlings. (Simaroubaceae)

    Simaba cedron, popularly known as "cedron", is largely used for fever and snake bites. Its seeds are used in the treatment of stomach problems and liver infections. The fruits are used for the treatment of pain and malaria while its bark is an antispasmodic. Simaba cedron is generally propagated through seeds, but with limited success, as the low viability of same restricts its propagation. In view of such difficulty, it becomes necessary the study for adequate conditions for the large scale production of these seedlings. Being it known that in several species, the use of micropropagation has made it possible to obtain a large amount of disease-free and more homogeneous seedlings, in reduced time and physical space, in comparison with conventional propagation methods, the objective of this work was to analyze the effect of two culture media on the production of aseptic parent plants as a first step in the development of a micropropagation protocol for Simaba cedron. The seeds were collected from a matrix plant located in the Amazon Biotechnology Center (CBA), in Manaus/AM. The experiment was installed at the Vegetable Tissue Culture Laboratory, where the  explants were desinfected and grown in culture medium  according to Murashige & Skoog (MS) and in Wood Plant Medium (WPM), during 60 days. The disinfestation rate obtained was 75% and, of the disinfested seeds, 100% germinated. The cultivation medium that was more favorable to the cultivation of simaba was the MS, where the multiplication rate was of 8.0: 1, whose seedlings reached, in average, 4.8 cm and 75% of rooting

    Traffic Education involving Children in Latin America and Brazil.

    The Traffic Education is currently a reality to be considered, considering that traffic accident is the main cause of death among children and adolescents, surpassing even homicides and any other “natural” cause of death, where it aims to preserve the life and physical integrity of humans beings in traffic situations. Thus, this article aims to present the contextualization of public policies for the reduction of accidents suffered by children from Early Childhood Education to Elementary School in Latin America and Brazil in the last decade. In conclusion, Traffic Education can contribute to the formation of adequate behaviors of children and adolescents, changing, in the medium and long term, the behavior of adults, where the school, family and government should be involved, emphasizing that this work should begin from an early age and extend to higher education
