Affectfullness as the basis for the (re)formulation of the teacher´s professional identity

    No full text
‘Affectfullness’ is called the way of life defended by Theoretical System of Affectfullness (TSA) in which the interactions we experience in the world can become rich and meaningful. Seen in these terms, it may be understood as a method that provides parameters for analyzing our experiences and investing in our full development as human beings. As of this approach, the teaching and learning activities should also be seen from a broader perspective, since they have a relevant role in the developmental path of our species. Therefore, it is argued that in scholastic institutions, the teacher – the person in charge of ‘teaching’- needs to experience opportunities and perspectives of self-development which happens through participation in healthy interactions and appropriate conditions to carry out their work of transmitting the input of knowledge produced by humanity from generation to generation. However, unfortunately we have noticed that a large number of elementary school teachers in Brazil do not perceive themselves inserted in a context full of development possibilities, both of themselves and of their own students. Teachers experience discomfort and anxieties, which in turn result in disenchantment with their teaching activities. This paper aims to explore, based on the literature researched, some of the difficulties lived by performing teachers which were organized in seven sections that indicate how the integrity of the ‘teaching profession’ has negatively been affected. Then, it promoted a dialogue with the Theoretical System of Affectfullness (TSA) in order to elicit reflections, which contribute to the teachers arouse an “affectively expanded look” on the dimension of their daily work and their professional identity, becoming able to positively affect their work environment and help modify this reality for better

This paper aims to estimate genetic and phenotypical parameters to assess the viability of early selection in progeny tests of Eucalyptus sp. We analyzed data from experiments conducted in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The evaluated traits were diameter at breast height and plant height in 482 progenies of full sibs under randomized block design, into nine experiments: four of which were assessed at progenies mean level, and five assessed at individuals mean level. It were evaluated the predicted gains with combined selection index under 5, 10 and 20% of selection; the coincidence among selected families in juvenile and adult ages, and the efficiency of early selection. Results indicated that the procedures were efficient in most of the scenarios, and the gains comparable to the direct selection on tree harvest age

Perspectives of Teacher Trainees’ Preparedness and Adoption on Integration of ICT in Public Teacher Training Colleges in Kenya

    No full text
This study was concerned with perspectives of student teacher trainees’ preparedness and adoption on integration of ICTs in public teacher training colleges. Effective preparedness and adoption on integration of ICTs contributes greatly to the quality of education delivered in an instructional process. The rationale was based on the view that properly designed and integrated ICTs add value to teaching and learning environment on which contact hours are limited. The curriculum needs academic standards and the development of digital age skills for the 21st century learners to fit in the global job market. The findings revealed that there was a significant relationship. However, preparedness on integration of ICTs was at an infant stage. The study also revealed that the training is only offering pedagogy, content, knowledge but not the technology which make integration a reality in the classroom setting. Inadequate infrastructure to enhance integration and that the student teacher trainees revealed lack policy that will help adoption on integration of ICTs in teaching learning process

In this paper we present and use the ITW-Index – this name was given in reference to the term Technology Watch, which is a technique of observation, analysis and identification of possible opportunities and threats, linked to the method of technological forecasting called Monitoring and Intelligence Systems. The purpose of TW-Index is to provide the user the capacity of monitoring and identifying whether certain terms which are used for defining a technology or research are currently been searched and used in the Internet. For this, we used as a basis the Google Trends. So, in this paper we present three contributions: (i) the concept of the TW-index, (ii) options for evaluating and getting a value for the TW-index applied in two different examples, and (iii) we measure and explain the means of TW-index when it is applied in two ideas for creating new business into the IdeaLAB program at University of Minho, Portugal

TRADEOFF IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THE CULTIVATION SYSTEM IN THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION UNIT OF CHARDONNAY VINIFERA.

The study analyzed the variables that interfere in the choice of the soil cultivation system, using conventional and/or biodynamic agricultural practices for the production of Vitis vinifera grapes. The method was an exploratory and descriptive quali-quanti analysis study. The intentional sample, for convenience and non-probability, included 26 vineyards of Vitis vinifera Chardonnay, 19 of which were conventional vineyards and seven in transition to the cultivation system using biodynamic farming practices. It was concluded that economic variables are the driving force in decision making, rather than environmental or social issues in the management of the cultivation system, as well it has also been noticed that some properties are seeking new cultivation practices. In the case of biodynamic agriculture, however, there is a faint signal that environmental issues may gain greater value in equalizing alternatives for decision-making in vineyard management and especially in soil care.     &nbsp

    No full text
Families provide a conducive environment that necessitates the acquisition of self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-efficacy amongst learners in pre-primary schools. However, pre-primary school learners have manifested and continue to manifest instances of low self-esteem, low self-confidence, and self-efficacy levels. This study sought to assess the influence of contemporary blended family structures on the socio-emotional development of pre-primary school learners. The study was guided by the family systems theory. The study adopted a mixed methodology and thus applied concurrent triangulation research design. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically along the objectives and presented in narrative forms. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using frequencies and percentages and inferentially using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Analysis in Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS 23) and presented using tables. The study established that pre-primary school learners manifest instances of low self-esteem, low self-confidence and low self-efficacy. The study also established that there are different dimensions of blended family structures that influence socio-emotional development, that is, self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-efficacy, of pre-primary school learners. Thus, the study recommends that parents who are in blended family structures should adopt the mechanism of enhancing the socio-emotional development of their children. The government and other stakeholders should provide necessary support meant to help such families improve the socio-emotional development of their children. Government agencies should create funds and kitties meant for the upkeep of children who are orphans and vulnerable
