Corona Virus Pandemic and Social Isolation Process Influences on Increased Violence Against Women: an integrative review
Introduction: violence against women is a complex worldwide health problem due to its multicausality. Global background alterations resulting from Corona Virus (Sars-Cov 2) pandemic implicated on the exacerbation of many vulnerabilities, including those that predispose domestic violence. Nowadays this kind of violence is even more intense and reaches significant national and worldwide morbimortality proportions among women. Objectives: to synthetize data described in the literature regarding how the Covid-19 pandemic and social isolation process have affected women lives concerning domestic violence. Methodology: integrative literature review, using a high sensitivity search in the databases Pubmed, Cochrane, Embase and the Virtual Library of Health (VLH) on Dec 07 2020. Ten studies were included in this review. Results: 90% of the studies analyzed presented an increase in intensity and frequency of violence against women after the beginning of social distancing policies. Women that had already suffered any kind of violence before the beginning of the isolation policies are more propense to physical violence during reclusion. Pandemic reduced contact of these women with their informal support network and with health services, culminating in the enhancement of the gravity of cases that are assisted by the system. Conclusion: women are a highly vulnerable population to violence during the pandemic period. Public policies that qualify professionals and facilitate prevention, tracking and intervention of cases are even more necessary
Smart City and Smart Tourist Destinations: Learning from New Experiences in the 21st century
Digital transformation has been a worldwide reality since the late 1990s. However, the 21st century has promoted its acceleration and scope for its use. Tourism professionals have sought the benefits that digital connections via smartphones bring to the diffusion and negotiation of services and products. However, young people from the internet age seek autonomy in the elaboration of their own travel itineraries, contributing to the emergence of intelligent tourist destinations. Based on the correlation with the principles of smart cities that increasingly become the goal of global managers, this study seeks to demonstrate the potential of the insertion of the tourist segment in this new perspective of social behavior. The results show that the co-creation by the travelers in search of experiences of impact in their lives is here to stay with QR Codes and Apps of cell phones. Information and digital communication technologies bring greater autonomy and creativity to the universe of tourists
Optimal Pairs Trading Strategy under Geometric Brownian Motion and its Application to the US stocks
This study is a study on pair trading, a representative market-neutral investment strategy. A general pair trading strategy uses econometric techniques to select a pair of stocks and calculates the trading price level depending on a single variable called the variance of stock returns without any theoretical background. This study applies the optimal pair trading strategy proposed by Liu et al. (2020) to the top US market cap stocks and examines its performance. This strategy proposes a mathematical background for optimally calculating the trading price level. Since the statistical method for pair selection can be omitted, a pair can be formed only with good stocks with guaranteed liquidity. In addition, strategic risk management is possible because the stop loss set according to the market situation is performed. As the top 10 market cap stocks traded on the US exchange, daily closing price data for 10 years from 2011 to 2020 were applied to optimal pair trading. It was confirmed that the rate of return may differ depending on the adjustment of various parameters including the level of stop loss. In this study, an applicated strategy that properly managed pairs trading and stocks together earned the minimum annual average return 17.88% and the Sharpe ratio reached 1.81. These numbers can be better with the adjustment of the parameters
An Overview of Student Enrolment, Teaching Faculty and Student-Teacher Ratio of Private and Public Universities in Pakistan
Growth and social wellbeing of a country largely depends on all the activities that require knowledge, expertise and highly qualified individuals to fill the gape between new avenues and job demand. Higher education institutions, number of enrolments in universities and availability of qualified teachers is important for fostering quality of education with a smooth flow of academic activities. This study is an attempt to gauge the situation of public and private universities in Pakistan by focusing on the number of universities, number of teachers and student-teacher ratio in public and private universities of Pakistan. Secondary data has been reviewed and examined from the available source (Pakistan Education Statistic). It has been identified that there is an increase in the number of universities but with a prominent decrease in teaching staff particularly in public sector universities, whereas student-teacher ratio has also been witnessed higher in public sector than the private universities in Pakistan
Sensory characteristics of wood from naturally fallen Amazonian trees for manufacture of products in Extractive Reserves
In view of the national and international demand for wood for industrial use, solutions are being created to combat and reduce deforestation. One such solution is to use wood from naturally fallen trees. However, there has been limited evaluation of the technological potential of this material. This study therefore aimed to assess the general characteristics of wood from naturally fallen tree species in the Auatí-Paraná Extractive Reserve (RESEX), for potential use in product development. The characteristics analyzed were color, texture, grain, heartwood, sapwood and density. The species of naturally fallen trees were assessed using online databases, specialized literature and the xylotheque at the Wood Anatomy and Identification Laboratory of the National Institute of Amazonian Research (LAIM/INPA). This study and its results confirm the great quantity and quality of wood from naturally fallen trees with technological potential for the development of products, based on the classification of the sensory characteristics of the woods
ANATOMICAL CHANGES IN Urochloa plantaginea AND Urochloa platyphylla UNDER DIFFERENT SOIL MOISTURE CONDITIONS
Urochloa plantaginea and Urochloa platyphylla are common weeds in the highland area. However, in recent years, they have been found in wetlands and poorly drained soils, but the biology and behavior of the species in these conditions are not known. Thus, the objective was to assess anatomical changes in plants of Urochloa plantaginea and Urochloa platyphylla grown under different soil moisture conditions, as well as the adaptive structures generated as a result of each environment. A completely randomized experimental design in the form of a 2x2 factorial design was used, with factor A being two species of Urochloa (U. plantaginea and U. platyphylla), and species B being three soil moisture conditions (50 and 100% FC and 5 cm water depth), with four repetitions. The assessments were performed by means of anatomical cuts, observing the number and diameter (micrometers - μm) of aerenchymas in stems, roots and leaves; total diameter and the central root cylinder (μm); diameter of the fistula medulla and cortex (μm) in stems; mesophyll thickness and leaf midrib (μm). It was found that, for the two species of Urochloa, the water depth condition induced an increase in the number and diameter of aerenchymas in roots and leaves and provided a larger diameter of the fistulous pith in stems. The diameter of the central cylinder and the thickness of the leaf mesophyll midrib were more compact at 50% FC, also, for both species. Therefore, the adaptive structures generated vary as a result of the field capacity of the soil
The influence of eWOM valence on brand equity dimensions and on purchase intention
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between electronic word of mouth (eWOM) valence, consumer-based brand equity (CBBE) dimensions, and purchase intention. An online survey was conducted to collect the data, with a total of 209 valid responses. The study conducts a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Results provided support for role of eWOM valence in influencing the development of CBBE. Specifically, eWOM valence strongly influences consumer perception of brand quality. Perceived quality and brand preference have strong and positive impact on purchase intention, confirming the importance of brand equity in building purchase intention toward a brand. The study is one of the first to examine the effects of eWOM valence on CBBE dimensions, demonstrating the importance of eWOM valence in the building of brand equity
WOMEN: DISCRIMINATION, VIOLENCE AND STRUGGLES IN CONTEMPORARY BRAZIL
The present paper delimited as a general objective to analyze the theme of women in relation to discrimination, violence and struggles in contemporary Brazil. This is a qualitative work, with a bibliographic nature, in which we revisit studies that deal with women and their struggles for insertion in the labor market, as well as the current conditions for the insertion of women in the commercial field. The relevance of our study lies in the current condition of women, who, according to the Brazilian Federal Constitution (1988), have the same rights as men, and it is necessary to discuss the subject. Given the degree of vulnerability of women in the context of domestic and family violence, it is of paramount importance that studies be developed that focus on ways to protect women against all forms of violence, bringing in their scope a range of possibilities for reflection. Our results pointed to a great scarcity that still exists in work opportunities for women, but despite the great discrimination, violence and struggles, in the twelfth century they have been gaining insertion and representation
WhatsApp-assisted health education intervention: a systematic
The acknowledgment of social media as a strategy in health education is essential, providing benefits to health promotion and the prevention and treatment of comorbidities. This study assessed the contribution of WhatsApp use on the prognosis of medical conditions and its impact on enhancing the quality of life. The review protocol used PubMed and Web of Science as databases, followed PRISMA-E 2012 guidelines, was registered in PROSPERO (Nº2021232688), and its risk of bias was analyzed Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing the risk of bias. Thirteen impact studies (n = 1653 participants) were selected and showed evidence on metabolic parameters such as reducing blood pressure (7.6%); body mass index-BMI (7.6%); glycated haemoglobin-HbA1c (15.4%); resting heart rate (7.6%); increase in static balance increase on balance (7.6%) and reduced body weight (7.6%). Furthermore, specific findings on each intervention were demonstrated, such as diminished rates of relapse in substance users (7.6%); increased populational knowledge on chronic diseases (23%) associated with a decrease in the potential complications (7.6%), and a rise on treatment adhesion (7.6%); impact on the follow-up of pregnant patients (7.6%) and progress on oral hygiene (15.4%). Therefore, it was concluded that this intervention strategy demonstrated significant magnitude in reducing the progression and complication of the assessed disorders
Educational Robotics in Science Teaching: A Study on The Development of a Research Project at the Federal Institute of Education Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS)
The use of technologies such as educational software and robotics to support the teaching and learning process is increasing. Educational robotics has proven to arouse interest in students, as it allows physical handling and active participation in the learning process. In this sense, this manuscript aims to describe the Educational Robotics research project as an Incentive to the Study of Science approved in PROPPI EDITAL No. 77/2017 - INTERNAL SOURCE 2018/2019, which had as a proposal to integrate undergraduates of Licentiate Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science of IFRS - Campus Ibirubá to jointly carry out analyzes and develop procedures for teaching and learning science (mathematics/physics) using Educational Robotics resources, motivating students of the Technical Course in Computing Integrated to High School. Thus, while this project offered an internship field for undergraduates, it promoted interest in the study of science among participants, leading them to engage and promoting greater participation
