    Solid Waste Management as an instrument of sustainability in protestant denominations

    Nowadays, there is a worldwide concern about issues related to the environment and one of the biggest environmental problems caused are generated by inadequate solid waste management and the lack of society's involvement. The present work deals with the management in Protestant Christian religious institutions, which are also producers of solid waste and, therefore, deserve to be studied scientifically, in order to answer the following guiding question: Solid waste management in Protestant Christian institutions in the city of Manaus asserts itself as an effective instrument for the concept of sustainability? The main purpose objective of this work is to evaluate how Protestant Christian religious institutions act in the management of solid waste, identifying if such these institutions do any kind of management of this generated waste, in order to monitor how it is done using quality management tools, methodology and analysis of the results achieved. The applied methodology will be descriptive, through observation, registration, analysis and correlation of the object or facts under study, however, without manipulating them. With the information collected from selected churches in all areas of the city, in equal quantity and, through a practical formulary and checklist based on Brazil’s the National Policy on Solid Waste (PNRS), it will be possible to build a DMAIC framework and sequentially apply the GUT tool, to notes on of the most urgent problems. The results of these notes will be put into the PDCA cycle for improvement planning and, finally, the 5W2H will be used to propose improvements, which will facilitate observation, data collection and analysis of the information obtained. The survey results showed a great possibility of these Christian communities to serve as environmental schools, and that if it would be carried out, could bring a real mass awareness of society, thanks to its enormous scope

    Under emergency conditions in the Brazilian educational system, since the turn of the 21st century, the National Curriculum Parameters consist of guidelines elaborated by the Federal Government with the purpose of guiding education, being separated by discipline. It is understood that reflective practice and critical involvement, in the context of extracting recreations in teaching, support debates and the development of teachers' productions and educational projects at the school, encourage reflection not only on pedagogical practice, but also about the planning of classes. Therefore, the objective of this work is to re-discuss, under the spectacles of the dialogic approach, some national parameters of education that govern Brazilian education, considering the expansion and potentializing of studies already carried out on the subject

    Epidemiological profile of children infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome

    Newborns exposed to the virus need to have clinical follow-up from birth, maintaining control and permanent health care in specialized multiprofessional services that meet the specific demands of their serological condition. Thus, the aim of the study was to analyze the epidemiological profile of children with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome attended at a Reference Center in the city of Belém, Pará, Brazil. This was a descriptive, cross-sectional epidemiological study with qualitative and quantitative variables on the profile of infected children from secondary data, in the period from 2014 to 2019 in the State of Pará. 1,270 children exposed to the virus by vertical transmission, between 0 and 12 years of age, were identified, 06 (0.47%) of which tested positive for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and 60 (4.72%) children who developed the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, with an average time of 3.5.7 years for disease progression and 8 years for death. In view of the results obtained, it is clear that there is a need to expand health programs in primary care, aiming at health promotion and prevention, as qualified care generates improvements in the quality of life of patients, since most of the transmission is vertical. Thus, it is necessary to carry out further studies in the area, aiming to improve the fight against the disease and reach in more detail the epidemiological profile of HIV/AIDS in children in the State of Pará

    GRAPHENE OXIDE AND REDUCED GRAPHENE OXIDE: FROM PREPARATION TO VERIFICATION OF SAFETY AND THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY IN SILICO AND IN VITRO

    To present a possible new alternative for wound treatment, this work evaluated the biological safety and therapeutic efficacy of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoparticles (NPs). First, the nanostructures were studied in silico and showed to be able to inhibit the production of some pro-inflammatory cytokines and stimulate the production of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, especially rGO. The results of the morphological and structural characterization of GO NPs synthesized from the Hummers method and reduced by ascorbic acid, were consistent with the literature, confirming their achievement. In the broth microdilution assay, GO and rGO showed antimicrobial activity against the clinical isolate of Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) at a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 625 µg/mL for GO and 312.5 µg/mL for rGO. In addition, the nanostructure of rGO was able to inhibit, in subinhibitory concentration, the formation of S. agalactiae biofilm by up to 77% when compared to the positive control. Both NPs, in all tested concentrations, did not cause hemolysis, and alterations in coagulation in vitro assays. However, in the safety tests, it was evidenced that only the MIC of 312, µg/mL for rGO was biologically safe and presented anti-inflammatory and healing behavior in vitro. In general, the present work confirmed rGO's potential in the treatment of chronic wounds, since in silico showed anti-inflammatory behavior and in vitro showed therapeutic efficacy at low concentrations, prevented biofilm formation, and showed no significant toxic effects

    Ten golden lessons from Republic of China (Taiwan), the best country to save lives during 300 days battle against Covid-19

    Almost 1.81 million lives were officially lost by Covid-19 (WORLDOMETERS, 2020) until last 31thDecember 2020. It was one year with intense global battle against the pandemic, with most countries eagle to learn from benchmark nations able to save lives. A new methodology developed by Silva (2020b), with fifteen phases, showed that among 108 well-evaluated countries, the top six benchmark countries are from Asia with emphasis on Vietnam, Taiwan and Thailand. To complement Silva (2020b) study, this article aims to investigate the performance and the best management practices adopted in Taiwan to save lives, during the first 300 days facing the pandemic. The research is descriptive, uses an online questionnaire with bibliographic and documentary approaches. The Fatality Total Index (FTI) developed by Silva (2020b p. 563) was used to compare Taiwan performance against 43 finalist countries. Some results are: 1) Taiwan`s FTI300 is the lowest (0,0020), confirming that the National Government has learned from the past, and is able to integrate and support main actors of the nation to prevent, prepare and fight against the Covid-19; 2) for 109 respondents living in Taiwan, the ten main policy measures adopted by the National Government that saved lives against the virus are: international travel control (78%), effective public-private collaboration (61%), public information campaigns (52%), integration with mass media (51%), increase the medical and personal equipment capacity (49%), combat fake news (47%), public event cancellations (45%), improve intensive care unit structure (28%), support the expansion of the testing system (20%), and schools closures (16%). At the final, ten golden lessons are described, most of them from the 225 policies, measures, programs, projects, strategies, and innovative products or services identified in Taiwan, with the majority led by Public Sector (56%), Corporations (29%), followed by Others (6%), Start Up (4%) and Universities (4%)

    An Analysis of Politeness Strategies and the Maxim Violation in a Movie Script of Enola Holmes

    The purpose of this research were to find out (1) whether the types of politeness strategies in Enola Holmes movie are in accordance with politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) or not, (2) what type of politeness strategies most frequently appeared in Enola Holmes movie, (3) which character(s) use politeness strategies most frequently than the others, and (4) what type of violating maxims based on Grice’s maxim most frequently appeared in Enola Holmes movie. The design of this research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research were in the form of utterances that contained politeness strategies and cooperation and implicature (Violating of maxim). The result shows that (1) the types of politeness strategies in Enola Holmes movie are in accordance with politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987); (2) Bald on Record is the most frequent politeness strategies appeared in Enola Holmes movie. Bald on Record is mostly used by the characters because there is a power, social status, or close relationship among the characters.; (3) there are three characters who used politeness strategies more frequently, they are Enola Holmes, Sherlock Holmes, and Tewkesbury (4) Violating maxim of relevance is the most frequently appeared in Enola Holmes movie

    The state of the art of government policy and program e valuation methodologies

    This research analyzes the conceptual aspects and the state of the art of evaluation methodologies within government policies and programs, based on theoretical and empirical evidence on the subject. This article aims to map the evaluation study and discuss evaluation practices in Brazil, the United States and Europe. It is, therefore, an exploratory and bibliographic research, with a qualitative approach, based on studies indicated in the selected literature. Although the evaluation practices in Brazil are recent and not fully established, the results point out a similarity in the evaluation activities, when compared with the American and European countries. On the other hand, these evaluation practices are still little used in Brazil, which still faces contextual and methodological challenges in the evaluation of public policies and programs, as well as the implementation of continued evaluation policies

    Fatigue design in reinforced concrete bridges according to Brazilian code

    There has been an increase in the flow of freight vehicles commuting on Brazilian highways. Then, special attention to the structural performance of bridges regarding the fatigue in beams is needed. Brazil has neither normative metrology to study real data flow of vehicles, nor specific fatigue load train models and coefficients to the analysis and design of road bridges. The same load train that is used for general dimensioning, TB 450, is used for the fatigue verification. Hence, this work aims to verify if the current TB 450 is representative of the freight heavy vehicles with 2 to 9 axles concerning the effects of fatigue in the longitudinal reinforcement of beams of theoretical reinforced concrete bridges with two, three, and five beams. This verification is performed analyzing the stress variations found in the longitudinal reinforcement of vehicles with 2 to 9 axles and the TB 450. Based on the results, the longitudinal steel reinforcement was more susceptible to fatigue's effects. Freight vehicles with 5, 6, 8 and 9 axles presented the most significant stress, therefore, they tend to cause more deleterious effects. Hence, the adoption of a Brazilian normative fatigue specific load train and coefficients is necessary to analyze pre-existing road bridges and design new ones most accurately

    Availability of raw materials in the state of Piauí for the production of ceramic coating

    The main raw material for the production of ceramic materials is clay, it can be found in large quantities throughout Brazil, in addition to having a simple processing method in the preparation of the mass of ceramic tiles using mixtures of kaolinitic clays (not very plastic) and illitic (plastic) clays, this mixture favors by developing a series of functions such as: light-burning color; act as binders and plasticizers; facilitate fluidity, due to its melting properties, provide a good burning density and excellent mechanical resistance. This work addresses the main basic white-burning raw materials used in the production of ceramic tiles: quartz, kaolin, talc and limestone and their influence on the ceramic mass. All raw materials mentioned are available in the State of Piauí. For this, a bibliographic review of a descriptive, basic and qualitative nature was carried out on the theme and with the results, it was possible to identify the existence of white-burning raw materials in the State of Piauí that can be used in the production of ceramic coating

    A Changes In Hormonal Response Caused By Different Types Of Physical Exercise: A Literature Review

    The regular practice of physical exercises brings benefits to health, as long as it is done correctly. Therefore, it is essential to know the type of activity practiced and its relationship with the individual's organism, especially regarding the endocrine response. The objective of this study was to investigate the main hormonal axes that act in physical exercises and to understand their different responses according to the type of activity. A literature search was carried out in the Scielo, PubMed, and VHL databases with the combinations "exercise AND hormones", "sports AND endocrine", "endocrine regulation AND exercise", and "endocrine regulation". After analysis, seven studies were selected for the development of this paper. The physical exercises were divided into two modalities - strength and endurance - which vary according to the homeostatic change imposed on the body. The responses were analyzed according to the acting hormonal axis, as follows: hypophysary, by the action of a hormonal cascade; adrenal, catecholamines and cortisol; and pancreatic, represented by insulin and glucagon. This review revealed the modulation of endocrine responses varies whether the activity is one of strength, which relates to anaerobic processes, or endurance, which interacts with the cardiovascular system. Therefore, it is recommended that further studies be conducted on this subject so that the practice of physical exercises suits each individual's uniqueness and may contribute to the prevention and treatment of diseases
