Democratic Management in Times of COVID-19:: Perspectives and Challenges for Brazilian Public Schools
This paper discusses the issue of educational management in a challenging scenario: the closing of Brazilian schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through an exploratory research, in a documentary character, the articulating role that educational management has been developing together with the families of students was evaluated, with the aim to guarantee their access to remote activities during this period, and their maintenance and organization by part of higher departments. Under the clipping of two official documents of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Deliberation No. 376 of the State Council of Education of the state and Resolution No. 5843 of the Secretary of State for Education, it was possible to identify a greater concern with access to content, either through technological mediation or printed material and with “supervision” of teachers and students, to the detriment of strengthening aspects relevant to democratic and participatory management. No references to management or direction were found in the documents under analysis, nor ways to consolidate the participation of all actors involved in the teaching-learning process. The absence of dialogicity with all parties led us to a traumatic and exhausting process for everyone involved. Therefore, the need to rethink the pedagogical practices involved in this pandemic period is discussed, based on the difficulties listed by students, families, teachers and managers, in order to consolidate the contribution of all, in a democratic way, even if there is no social interaction between those involved at the time
Quantitative research, Linguistic Discrimination and the graduation in Letters: A case study in Itaperuna (RJ), Brazil.
This article presents the perceptions of undergraduate students about Linguistic Discrimination (LD). The main objective of this study is to analyze of quantitative research view of literary scholars confronted with situations related to the mythology of linguistic prejudice, that is, to the myths that, according to Bagno (1999), are constructors of discriminatory behaviors before certain linguistic varieties
Non-Deterministic Computational Thinking: Challenges and Opportunities
An educational paradigm that has improved problem-solving capacity is computational thinking, which uses characteristics such as decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition, and algorithmic thinking. However, most of the resources developed under this paradigm are deterministic. However, the current world is not linear. Non-deterministic dynamics play a vital role in today's world. Decisions about the same fact can cause different events, and students must be prepared to live with such uncertainties. This article discusses challenges and possibilities in the development of non-deterministic computational thinking resources. This work shows a large field of research yet to be worked on, with new possibilities and a great potential to connect new resources with the students' daily lives
Teacher – Student Relationship as a Determinant of Students’ Classroom Participation in some Secondary Schools in Kumba I Municipality
The study investigates the Effect of Teacher- Student Relationship on Students’ Classroom Participation in the Kumba I Municipality. The descriptive survey research design was used to collect data. Four research objectives were formulated to guide this study. The target population for the study comprised three secondary schools. (one government, one confessional and one lay private) and a sample of 160 students purposively selected from them. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire which comprised of closed ended questions. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics that is tables and frequencies. The findings revealed that all the variables exploited by the study (communication, emotionally- safe learning environment, student perception of teachers, motivation and praise) all have the potential of affecting students’ classroom participation in secondary schools in Kumba Municipality. Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: Teachers are advised to routinely show positive attitudes, beliefs and expectations that will motivate students, build a cordial relationship with their students, and students are encouraged to feel free to express their problems especially academic problems to their teachers
The Indiscriminate use of Ritalin by Universities in the Health Area at the University of Gurupi – UNIRG
MPH methylphenidate, popularly known as Ritalin, was synthesized in 1954 in Switzerland and marketed in Brazil in 1998, belonging to the class of amphetamines. It acts in the CNS crossing the blood-brain barrier very easily. Used for cognitive improvement by college students. Its excessive consumption leads to dependence and possible side effects. The objective of this study was to analyze 91 university students who answered questionnaires on the theme. The collected data analyzed the incidence of Ritalin use among health academics at the University of Gurupi-UNIRG. After conducting the surveys, it was intended to understand the real reason that leads the student to the indiscriminate use of the drug and its possible consequences, to subsequently conduct guidance regarding the use without a prescription for academic purposes
Swot Analysis Implemented With Fuzzy Inference to Support Decision Making
Current market conditions require organizations to understand the business environment in order to achieve strategic planning and decision-making processes. An organization's competitive advantage is associated with an understanding of how to determine the potential of these companies when examining internal and external conditions (insertions) and the effort to meet customer needs. Among the many tools that contribute to this understanding, the SWOT analysis stands out, which can assist organizations to better understand the internal and external environment and formulate strategic plans in a collaborative way. This work aimed to implement an evaluation model for SWOT analysis using fuzzy inference methods. The adopted methodology started from a survey on the internal and external characteristics of the organization, definition of the linguistic criteria of the SWOT matrix, correlation between the variables found and elaboration of the fuzzy inference system for crossing the inputs. The approach proposed by the Fuzzy Inference model for the SWOT matrix proved to be simplified and efficient for a better collection of information that allows the prediction of the future environment, enabling reasoned strategies resulting from the model presented
Bubble Deck Slab System: A Review on the Design and Performance
The conventional floor slab has few drawbacks of giving little structural support and posing a large amount of self-weight to a building. Therefore, bubble deck slab system is introduced to tackle these limitations. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of the bubble deck slab system on its design and performance. A systematic literature review was conducted in this paper based on the selected journal and articles through the database search engine. The findings will better understand the feasibility of the bubble deck slab system and its potential as a viable replacement for the conventional floor slabs
RURAL CREDIT AND THE LIVESTOCK PROCESS IN THE MICROREGION OF VILHENA, RONDÔNIA, WESTERN AMAZON
The study has as general objective to analyze the scenario of the municipalities in the microregion of Vilhena, State of Rondônia, based on the federal government's rural credit policy, in order to identify the possible livestock processes that would be carried out in this microregion. It is an applied, descriptive, cross-sectional research with a quantitative approach, since the objectives generate knowledge for practical application, which includes the number of contracts and the volume of financial resources for agriculture and livestock in the municipalities of Chupinguaia, Parecis, Pimenta Bueno, Primavera de Rondônia, São Felipe D'Oeste and Vilhena of the micro-region of Vilhena, Rondônia, Brazilian Amazon, in the period corresponding to the years 2000 and 2010. Data collection was carried out through reports from the rural credit statistical yearbook of the Central Banco do Brasil for the years 2000 and 2010. Based on the results found by the research, it was evidenced that in the municipalities of the microregion of Vilhena there was a process of cattle ranching, through the incentive of the rural credit policy granted to family rural producers, where it was observed that among the six municipalities that comprise In the micro-region of Vilhena, all of them presented a strong stimulus to the livestock sector, demonstrating a reversal of agricultural activity for livestock in this micro-region
Analysis of sizes and state of ovarian maturity in yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) captured in the Gulf of Mexico
The yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares is the second most important fishery in Mexico, due to its production costs and commercial value” The species is fished on both coast of the country, with the Pacific Ocean presenting productions lightly higher than that of the Gulf of Mexico where, in spite of the above statement, tuna catches have recently shown a downward trend. For this reason, analysis is required of the size and stage of ovarian maturity and it is necessary to determine whether capture size is the primary reason behind the decline in the yellowfin tuna fishery Three tuna fishing trips were conducted in the Gulf of Mexico in order to gather data pertaining to fork length (Lf) and gonads Histological sections were obtained from the latter for analysis and determination of maturity stage. The results showed that males were predominant (40%) among the individuals for which the sex could be differentiated in the catches of T. albacares. The Lf values in the catch, were between 75 and 162 cm. However, variations in this parameter were found between sexes. The relationship between length and weight showed that the males are larger than the females, however, the equationgiven by the parameters of a=0.9406 and b= 3.4504, demonstrated growth of positive allometric type in both sexes. There was progressive development in the state of ovarian maturity over the months of capture. Chromatin nuclear (CN) was the most frequent phase within primary ovarian development (November, February, March), stages were present, although these did not present a direct relationship to fork length
The Transforming Power of Scientific Knowledge: A Study of Human Development on a Global Scale in Terms of Academic Efficiency
Knowledge, and especially scientific knowledge, is crucial in terms of transforming societies, and making social structures manageable and sustainable. This can be seen in the fact that the universities which are at the top of the global university rankings are mostly located in countries that are the center of attraction. The aim of this study is to examine the positive effects of academic productivity, which is of great importance in optimizing social conditions, on human development on a global scale with a statistically provable technique. In order to understand this relationship more clearly, our study has compared countries according to their academic productivity using the Multidimensional Scaling Analysis method and established a relationship between this and human development. As a result of the analysis carried out within the scope of the study, which used data from 178 countries from the time period of 1996-2019, it was concluded that the relationship between academic productivity and human development was only at a medium level. This suggests that, in addition to the need for scientific knowledge to be used for the improvement of social conditions, scientific knowledge is limited to certain organizations, which leads to the elitism of scientific knowledge
