Unlike animals (which are programmed by nature), the human being, at birth, brings with him an innate characteristic: freedom of action. In our legal-criminal system, after completing 18 years, the individual acquires the fullness of that freedom and, consequently, the capacity for culpability. This is because, from this age, it is assumed that the person achieves so-called self-determination, that is, the ability to direct alone to his own actions according to the formation of his independent will. In other words: legally it no longer requires the guidance of parents or guardians to direct their conduct. You have complete freedom of action
CREATIVITY IN TEACHING MATH TO STUDENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES
Developing creativity and thinking outside the box is key in modern education. When students are able to combine ideas, techniques, approaches that enable them to solve problems in different ways we can assert that they were taught creativity in their mathematical instructions. Most tests for evaluation of mathematical creativity measure the flexibility, fluency, and originality of student responses. Creativity tends to be hindered in the case of students with mild intellectual disabilities. Studies on the application of creativity in the teaching of mathematics to students with intellectual disabilities are limited. Analysis of the mechanical properties of the concrete with partial substitution of the kind’s aggregate glass powder
In this study, the influence of partial introduction as glass as fine aggregate on the composition of simple concrete is analyzed, considering that sand (fine aggregate currently used) has been used on a large scale in civil construction over the years and has been affecting the environment. The main objective of this research was to analyze the mechanical properties of concrete, partially replacing the natural sand with another fine aggregate made from glass residues, evaluating the behavior presented at the end of each test using different percentages of this material as fine aggregate in the concrete composition. From an experimental methodology that consisted of determining an object of study (concrete), selecting the variable that would possibly be able to influence it (glass powder) and defining the ways of controlling and observing the effects that the variable would produce on the object, an interpretation of how the mechanical properties of the glass powder that affect the performance of structural concrete is presented. The granulometry was subsequently analyzed, the tests carried out both in the fresh and hardened state of the concrete, and identified that the glass in a certain percentage proves to be viable. Finally, it can be concluded that the partial inclusion of glass affects the mechanical properties of structural concrete, and can present quite satisfactory results, both related to the environment, since the sand would not be used entirely as fine aggregate or in reaching a resistance suitable for its final use
Usage of Arduino-based Datalogger for thermal comfort variables monitoring
Environmental monitoring is an effective tool to identify problems in anthropic areas, and the emergence of cyber-physical sensors contributes to technological advances in the area. This paper introduces a device based on the Arduino cyber-physical platform to monitor air temperature and relative humidity in real-time with high efficiency. With the relationship between these two environmental variables, it will be possible to calculate the Heat Index (CI), the Temperature and Humidity Index (ITU), the Effective Temperature Index (ET), and the Thermal Discomfort Index (IDT). The Datalogger developed is easily programmable and easy to assemble and presented stable operation and proper functioning
Teaching Knowledge and Practice in the Context of Remote Classes to High-Ability/Gifted Students
Emergency remote teaching was regulated by the National Council of Education through Decision nº5/2020, approved on April 28th 2020, in Brazil, as an alternative to cover for the absence of face-to-face teaching. The Ordinance states that remote teaching activities must be applied to students of all education levels, steps, and modalities. As such, the main objective of this study was to investigate, through a bibliographic research, what are the skills that teachers of high ability/gifted students should have in the context of remote classes. We undertook a qualitative bibliographic research by surveying material readily available for consulting on the internet, such as educational books, periodic publications, and laws pertaining to high ability/gifted students and their learning process. After sorting through this material, we conducted an analysis to discuss data and later compiled suggestions of potential methodologies that could be applied to online classrooms. Our findings emphasize that both teaching knowledge and practice must offer high ability/gifted students optimized challenges, which integrate provocative novelties and motivate the development of their abilities and the dynamicity in activities. Furthermore, they also foster the students’ autonomy, making individual interests deeper, as well as their creative, critical and research abilities. Therefore, active learning methodologies are an asset to the teaching-learning process of students with specific educational needs
Learning Computer Programming Using Project-Based Collaborative Learning: Students’ Experiences, Challenges, and Outcomes
The major concern of teaching computer programming in higher education is to provide students
with the skills necessary to integrate theory and practice. One of the methods most suited for this task is project-based collaborative learning (PBCL). This study provides an in-depth analysis of students’ experiences, levels of collaboration and challenges in learning computer programming in a PBCL setting. A survey of 428 students was selected from a population of 840 undergraduate computer programming students at all levels using a stratified random sampling technique. It was found that focusing programming courses on real problems made the course more interesting for students. The students gained new interpersonal skills and understood the technical concepts of the courses better. PBCL was found to be suitable for teaching lower level (level 100 and 200) undergraduate programming courses compared with higher level (level 300 and 400) courses. Students' challenges in PBCL computer programming courses include time allocation for projects, choosing appropriate problems and piggy riding in project groups. We expect the findings of this study to influence policy on the teaching of computer programming courses at the undergraduate level
EFFECT OF STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP ON ORGANIZATION PERFORMANCE OF STATE-OWNED SUGAR MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN WESTERN KENYA
Properly applied strategic leadership is precursory for effective strategy formulation, implementation and control especially in the current highly volatile business environment. Due to limited empirical findings locally on how strategic leadership affects performance of organizations, this study increased this knowledge by answering the question: what is the effect of strategic leadership on organization performance of state-owned sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya. The main objective of the study was to assess the influence of strategic leadership on organization performance of state-owned sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya. Specifically, the study aimed to; assess the influence of strategic direction setting on organization performance of state-owned sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya, determine the influence of core competence exploitation on organization performance of state-owned sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya, establish the influence of organization culture building on organization performance of state-owned sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya and assess the influence of organization controls on organization performance of state-owned sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya. The study was guided by upper echelon theory, environment dependency theory, contingency theory and trait theory. Target population was 917 employees from Chemelil, South Nyanza, Muhoroni, and Nzoia. Survey design was adopted for the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to arrive at the population sample; total sample size of 269 respondents was used. Data collection instruments were both primary and secondary. Primary data was collected by way of semi structured questionnaire. Secondary data collection involved documentary analysis to capture information on organization performance of state-owned sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya. Pilot study was carried out on a group of employees from Nzoia Sugar Company to ensure the research instruments capture the required information before carrying out the research. Descriptive and inferential statistics which included mean, frequency and regression was used in this study. The test criteria was to reject the first null hypothesis if the value of beta was not equal to zero (β1 ≠0). From the results, the beta value for strategic direction setting 0.346 at p< 0.05. This result implied 34.6% of change in Organization performance is attributed to Strategic direction setting. Therefore the first hypothesis was rejected. The test criteria was to reject the second null hypothesis if the value of beta was not equal to zero (β2 ≠0). From the results, the beta value for core competencies exploitation from the regression model was 0.503 at p< 0.05. This result implied that 50.3% of change in Organization performance is explained by Core Competencies exploitation. Therefore the second null hypothesis was rejected. The test criteria was to reject the third null hypothesis if the value of beta was not equal to zero (β3 ≠0). From the results, the beta value for organization culture building from the regression model was 0.399 at p< 0.05. This results implied that 39.9% of change in Organization performance is attributed to Organization Culture building. Therefore the third null hypothesis was rejected. The test criteria was to reject the fourth null hypothesis if the value of beta was not equal zero (β4 ≠0). From the results, the beta value for organization controls from the regression model was 0.315 at p< 0.05. This result implied that 31.5% of change in Organization performance was explained by Organization controls, hence the fourth null hypothesis was rejected. In conclusion, the study established a statistically significant correlation between strategic leadership and organization performance of state-owned sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya. The findings of the current study form a basis for reference in future by interested parties. Further research should be carried out on the Influence of strategic leadership on organization performance of privately owned sugar manufacturing firms in order to make generalizations as relates to effect of strategic leadership on organization performance of sugar manufacturing firms in Western Kenya
Problem-Based Learning as reinforcement for remote teaching in times of COVID-19 using the moodle learning environment
In times of pandemic, the social distance made the teaching practice suffer several adjustments to meet emerging demands, thus the aim of this study was to report the experience of the authors with problem-based learning as reinforcement to remote teaching in times of COVID-19 utilizing the moodle learning environment, as a way to implement changes in the discipline Interdisciplinary Project II of the Undergraduate Nursing course, which has always been offered in the face-to-face modality. The study was conducted from March to July 2021 with students enrolled in the course. The results of this study indicate that the use of problem-based learning resources during remote teaching can become an efficient resource for professional training
Enhancing preschoolers’ understanding about story structure.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect on preschool aged children of an intervention reinforcing comprehension of the structural framework of stories, so that they can produce their own stories. The sample consisted of 78 children, ages 4-6. The sample was separated into two groups, one experimental and one control group. The children in the experimental group were taught how to create original fictional stories through a multilevel intervention programme. During sessions, well-structured books were used that had very well-structured contents and an instructional strategy was implemented on five levels (creating prior knowledge, discussion, modelling, monitoring the process and producing stories). The children in the control group were read the same books and a discussion followed on the interesting parts of the stories. The results showed that the intervention programme significantly improved the children’s ability to understand the structural elements of a story and to generate comprehensible and organised fictional stories
Validation of the ISAREG model for the irrigation management of the melon crop in the state of Ceará
The research aimed to validate the ISAREG model, introducing it to water management studies in irrigation in the State of Ceará, comparing results of experimental research, with results of simulations, carried out with the use of software, analyzing the following variables: crop evapotranspiration, variation of soil water storage and water flow in the soil. A bibliographic survey was carried out to obtain soil, climate and crop information required by the model to perform the soil water balance. Aiming at the validation of ISAREG, the model was fed with the following data: reference evapotranspiration, precipitation, phenological phases of the crop, effective depth of the root system, water availability factor in the soil, crop coefficient and soil information. Subsequently, the irrigation management option "dates and irrigation depths" was selected, and ISAREG performed the simulation of the soil water balance. The ISAREG demonstrated a detailed soil water balance, being validated in this study, because when its results were compared to the experimental ones, there was similarity in the trends of the variables analyzed, despite the reduced correlation verified regarding the variation of water storage in the soil
