SOCIAL MEDIA AS TEACHING/LEARNING TOOLS IN NIGERIAN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS: CONTRIBUTORY DRIVER TO 21ST CENTURY INCLUSIVE EDUCATION EFFORTS
This study verified students’ perceptions on whether utilisation of the social media tools for teaching/learning can possibly contribute towards driving 21st century inclusive education efforts in Nigerian universities. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Study’s population was made up of all 392 students of Educational Technology unit of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching in the Faculty of Education in the University of Calabar. Sample was drawn through purposive sampling procedures with a sample of 68 respondents drawn for the study. A 15-item questionnaire tagged “Learners’ Perceptions of social media as Teaching/Learning Tools and Contributions to 21st century Inclusive Education Efforts’ Questionnaire” (LPSMTLTCIEEQ) was utilized to collect data. Using Cronbach Alpha, the reliability estimate of the instrument was 0.82. Data analysis was achieved using frequencies and percentages. The findings revealed that students had favourable perceptions concerning utilisation of the social media tools for teaching/learning as a vital contributor towards driving 21st century inclusive education efforts. Recommendations included that; lecturers should incorporate use of social media tools for teaching-learning processes
The Effect of Communication, Resources, Disposition And Structure of Bureaucracy on Medical Participation of Men's Operations in City of Bandar Lampung (Study of George Edward III Policy Implementation Model)
The Population and Family Planning Control Office of Bandar Lampung City has implemented a Family Planning Program to reduce birth rates so that population growth in Bandar Lampung is controlled. Since 2009, men and women have had the same rights and position in achieving the success of the Family Planning Program in Bandar Lampung City. But the fact the Family Planning Program in Bandar Lampung City still seems biased to gender, this is evidenced by the achievement of family planning acceptors who are still being majority among women compared to men. KB Male Medical Surgery (MOP) is the male birth control that attains the lowest acceptor and has decreased in five years in the city of Bandar Lampung. Based on the problems obtained in the field, the study wanted to see the influence of communication variables, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure on KB MOP participation in Bandar Lampung City. The independent variable used in this study is the implementation model variable proposed by George Edward III. The method used in this study a descriptive and associative method with a quantitative approach.
The results showed that the communication variables obtained the magnitude of influence of 4.4% and the disposition variable obtained the magnitude of influence of 4.3%, these two variables did not have a significant effect on KB MOP participation in Bandar Lampung City. While the resource variable obtained the magnitude of influence of 21.1% and the bureaucratic structure variable obtained the magnitude of influence of 25.6%, these two variables had a significant influence on KB MOP participation in Bandar Lampung City. But simultaneously the communication, resource, disposition and bureaucratic structure variables have a significant influence on KB MOP participation in Bandar Lampung City and the magnitude of the effect obtained is 25.1%
Case study: Lifecycle Assessment and CBios Emission Factor for biodiesel production with variation of the biomass and eligibility criteria
The Brazilian National Biofuels Policy (RenovaBio) has as its main purpose to promote the growth of the biofuels chain in Brazil, from more efficient and sustainable production models, culminating in the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as contributing to the fulfillment of the commitments assumed by the country at COP-21. RenovaCalc is a tool from RenovaBio that is capable of analyzing lifecycle inventory data of background processes, added to the technical parameters of agricultural and industrial production that is informed by the biofuel producer. The final product is given through an Energy-Environmental Efficiency Grade (NEEA). In this context, NEEA, together with raw material eligibility values, will serve as the basis for the calculation of decarbonization credits (CBios). Given this context, the present study sought to investigate three scenarios: S1: excluded agricultural phase; S2: 100% eligible soy combined with the use of beef tallow, and S3: production of biodiesel with 100% soybean oil. The study compared two biodiesel producing national industries to NEEA certified by the Brazilian National Office of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). It can be concluded that NEEA does not have a direct influence on the quantity of CBios to be traded, that is, the highest ratio is given from the eligibility (%) of the raw material chosen for the production of the fuel. Thus, scenario 2, which relied on the use of waste, proved to be 10 times more profitable compared to the other scenarios, in both analyses, due to its high eligibility. However, in terms of NEEA, it was noted that the exclusion of the agricultural phase (scenario 1) was the one that was most efficient in terms of gCO2 eq./MJ. It is relevant to emphasize the importance of proper handling and practices that guarantee the traceability of the grain so that the eligibility indexes are optimized
Synthesis and Antibacterial Property of An Encapsulated Sulfonamide Nanoparticle in a Multidisciplinary Approach
Multigram quantity of a novel Sulfa Drug complex -poly(amido)amine-sulfonamide or PAMAM-Sulfa- was synthesized, from commercially available materials. It was characterized with spectroscopic methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The Kirby-Bauer test was used to test it against gram positive and/or gram negative bacteria using different concentrations of an ethanol solution of the PAMAM-Sulfa complex. The goal of this experiment was to synthesize and study the effect of water soluble encapsulated sulfonamides on common bacteria by undergraduate students engaging in research involving more than one STEM discipline. Students synthesized a dendrimer-sulfonamide complex before evaluating its antibiotic properties. In doing so, students employed research methods that are common to chemistry, biology and nanoscience while also learning about mechanism of infectious diseases, drugs and drug resistance. This project allowed students to combine aspects of scientific research that are usually done separately, and an opportunity to observe the seamlessness of multidisciplinary science
Construction with ruler and compass, van Hiele model for geometry thinking and Project-based learning
We describe how problems of geometric construction using straightedge and compass can be introduced to students through project-based learning. We discuss how these problems can be extended to the upper half-plane model. Furthermore, we discuss the use of these problems to assess advanced levels in van Hiele model for geometry thinking
Seawater as Renewable Energy in Air Conditioning and Plumbing Systems for Coastal Development
Seawater is deemed as renewable energy and supplemental water source in coastal development. Utilizing seawater resources in air conditioning and plumbing system involves implementation of innovative technology such as seawater air conditioning (SWAC), seawater heat pump (SWHP), landscape irrigation system, potable water and greywater recycling. The research aims to demonstrate seawater usage as water efficiency option to reduce energy consumption, save freshwater and environment. The research had adopted systematic literature review (SLR) method to analyze the application of seawater building air conditioning and plumbing system on current publications and papers, and conclude with summary of benefits and challenges
PEDAGOGICAL CARE IN HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT: THE RIGHT OF HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN IN BRAZIL
Pedagogical assistance in a hospital environment aims to continue the schooling of children who are hospitalized. In addition, it aims to develop activities that help in training and that help with school tasks during hospitalization. This article aims to publicize the hospital class as an inclusive teaching modality aimed at assisting children and adolescents while they are undergoing health treatment during the period of hospitalization. The bibliographical research presents a scenario about the hospital educational service in Brazil and in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, showing a growing percentage, however, insufficient of hospital classes to guarantee the right to education of sick children and adolescents
PORT LOGISTICS VIABILITY ANALYSIS: CASE STUDY OF THE AUTONOMOUS PORT OF COTONOU (BENIN) (PAC)
This article aims to perform the logistic viability analysis of PAC for West Africa using the AHP multicriteria method. This port contributes largely in the country's economy through customs and tax revenues, the formation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and also in international trade. Four criteria (quality of infrastructure and services, equipment productivity, and logistics cost of cargo) were modeled. With the result, the port infrastructure criterion is most important, followed by the port equipment criterion. Showing the importance of each port logistics viability criterion (infrastructure, service, equipment, cost), the alternative long-term logistics viability is preferable to the medium-term and short-term. The application of the AHP shows in its result that for long-term port logistics viability, it is preferable to invest more in modern and quality infrastructure and equipment
Effective Role of Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic Emergencies in Thailand
This study included a discussion of the critical role VHVs played in the control, prevention, and monitoring of the Covid-19 pandemic in Thailand, as well as a review of related literature, with 11 of 59 topics chosen. The purpose of this study was to investigate and improve VHV competence in the control, prevention, and monitoring of the Covid-19 pandemic. The outcomes of the study indicated that VHVs were important in efficiently managing, preventing, and monitoring the Covid-19 pandemic from 2020 until the present. As a result, in addition to maximizing the potential of VHVs, it is important to be varied, knowledgeable, and up to date on current events. However, the most cost-effective utilization of resources is referred to as "Sufficiency Healthcare, High Benefit, Most Economical" when utilizing the concepts of sufficiency economics
Uncertanties and Risk Analysis on Ports Construction Projects Considering Technological and Market Strategic Factors: A Study in Emerging Countries and Regions
This article appropriates a new methodology for evaluating port projects involving not only economic analysis, but also strategic factors, technological and market, wich provide greater security and assertiveness on the search for the development of a Hub Port model as an option to optimize the logistics of port operations. To achieve the objectives of the proposal, a technical and economic analysis model was developed to demonstrate the feasibility of the project with the inclusion of technological features (deep of ships, modes of transport linking the port to its region of land influence, expansion area) and market components (cargo demands, free trade zone, distance from the main centers of world trade) that decisively interfere in the attractiveness of the project. Linked to this proposal, a risk analysis was carried out, including uncertainties involving economic and strategic aspects, with market and technological variables. To achieve the objectives of the study, the Monte Carlo method operated by the software “@RiskTM” was used, where the analyzes of positive and negative interferences in the project were carried out. To evaluate the proposed methodology, it was applied in two cases studies of the feasibility of a new logistics platform in Brazil and Africa, with the implementation of an offshore cargo concentrator port. One was in the State of Pará, in northern Brazil, and the other in Dakar, Senegal, which can integrate the entire South America and Africa, respectivaly. The results of those analysis show very favorable indicators for the implementation of the proposed projects. Considering that, strategic factors introduced in the study, the greatest influences were: transport modes that link the port to the land influence zone and the draft of the ships. For the offshore port of Pará, strategic factors boosted the viability result by approximately 55% for a 95% probability of success and for Dakar, in Africa, the results were 100%, both for a 14% rate and a life span of 30 years showing that strategic factors are elements very importatants, as they produced almost 100% and 70% elasticity in the results, respectivaly, so they should be considered in feasibility studies of hub ports in addition to tradicioanl economic analysis
