    EFFECTIVENESS OF DEVELOPED WORKSHEETS TO THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS IN SCIENCE 9 CONCEPTS

    The study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of developed worksheets as an instructional material for teaching specific concepts in science 9. In particular, the aim of the study is to analyze the evaluation ratings of the worksheets produced and the effect of its implementation. It also examines the significant difference between the respondents' academic performances when supported by the developed worksheets. The primary instrument of the study is a standardized evaluation tool for printed materials from the Department of Education, Learning Resources Management and Development System (LRMDS) Office. Results showed that the validated worksheets are identified as appropriate and commendable by the validators. The achievement performance of the respondents has improved substantially. There is a significant difference between the students' academic achievement using established worksheets compared to conventional approaches. In teaching Science 9 concepts, the developed worksheets are appropriate to use as a material and greatly enhanced the students' efficiency

    Effect of Students’ Attendance on their Academic Performance in Some Engineering Courses at the United Arab Emirates

    The correlation between students’ attendance and their final grades was studied by many researchers in many universities across the world in a number of specializations.  The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of absence on engineering students’ performance in general engineering courses and more specifically in fundamental courses that are provided solely by the Mechanical Engineering Department since there had been a substantial lack of studies involving them. In order to do so, a sample size of over 8000 students from the United Arab Emirates University UAEU was collaborated for this study with a main objective to conclude whether this relationship is significant or not. The data was generally collected over a period of five years, from 2013 to 2018. From the research conducted, the results showed that, students who do not attend class tend to perform worse on exams in engineering. Furthermore, the correlation between the student’s class attendance and student’s final grade is noteworthy and there is a strong correlation between them. Equally important, such low students’ academic performance reflects negatively to the course learning outcomes.&nbsp

    Language teacher professional education:: The role of peer-to-peer learning in online environments

    This article provides a theoretical discussion regarding the implications of peer-to-peer learning in online environments for language teacher professional learning and second language academic literacy. It approaches the use of technology as means to enhance prospective teachers’ cognition and metacognition skills and to foster their language learning, as Language Teacher Education programs usually fulfil a twofold purpose: to learn the language itself and to learn how to teach it as a foreign language. In order to arrive at these implications, it presents a grounded discussion on sociocultural perspective within L2 teacher education, teachers’ beliefs, and mediation in the sociocultural perspective. The discussion reinforces the significance of peer-activities (peer-observation and peer-feedback) to foster a teacher development process. Moreover, it suggests that a guided peer-activity, such as employing the use of carefully elaborated rubrics, could enhance this process

    Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial evaluations of mixed ligand complexes of sulphamethaxole and metronidaxole with some transistion metals (Zn, Co, Cu and Fe) in water methanol medium

    Sulfamethoxazole and metronidazole are antibiotics use for the treatment of various bacterial infections. Their use as ligand is very prominent in formation of metal complexes. The transition metal complexes are synthesized by reaction of Sulfamethoxazole and metronidazole with metals such Mn(II), Cu(II), Fe(II) and Ni(II). The synthesized metal complexes are tested as antibacterial and antifungal. The antimicrobial activity of the complexes displays good potency against some microorganism such as Xanthomonas axonopodis, Streptococcus faecalia, Salmonella entrica, Claribacter michiganense, Xanthomonas phaseolin for bacteria and S.roofisii, M.phonoides, C.lindimuthianum for the fungi, it is revealed that all copper complexes show stronger antibacterial activity than the free drugs. The spectroscopic properties of the complexes were investigated using UV/visible and FT-IR which show metal-charge from 3d to 3s transition in which the transition state shows that they are octahedral geometry and their coordination site respectively. Their percentage yield was moderately high and producible. The complexes synthesized have higher inhibitory activities than the free ligand. The drug resistance in microbes is resulting in the incompetence of available drugs to care for the infections. The thermal analysis shows that the complexes are stable

    Epidemiological characteristics and causes of death after Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage – SAH

    This study analyzed the epidemiological characteristics and causes of deaths after SAH in patients admitted to a referral hospital in southern Brazil. A hospital database was used, comprising the years 2006-2018, composed of 148 patients. Cross-tabulations and Logistic Regression were performed to determine the odds of death of epidemiological characteristics. Ruptured aneurysms had a higher incidence in women, aged between 41 and 60 years. Headache is the predominant symptom in 95% patients. Hypertension (61%) and smoking (47%) are the prevalent risk factors. The age group with the highest frequency of deaths is 71 to 80 years old. The causes of death are: external ventricular shunt (34%), ischemic injury (9%), bleeding (7%), cerebral edema (8%), sepsis (28%) and pneumonia (24.3%). Knowing the risk factors and complications involved provide important insights that help in understanding their genesis, treatment and prevention

    The purpose of this study was to find out the influence of electronic word of mouth on consumer interests which mediated by brand equity to Tokopedia Users in School of Social and Political Sciences’ student on University of Lampung. This research was conducted on Tokopedia users with a total sample of 100 respondents. The sample technique used was simpel random sampling. The type of research carried out was quantitative explanatory and analytical techniques used by SmartPLS (Partial Least Square) 2.0 version. The results of this study indicate that electronic word of mouth has a significant influence on brand equity in Tokopedia, brand equity variables have four dimensions that have a significant effect on consumer interest in Tokopedia. For further research it is recommended to be able to develop in accordance with this research so that it can improve further research and for Tokopedia to be able to conduct in-depth interactions wisth brand tests to install perceptions related to a product that will be offered to consumers

    Due to the discontinuity of support for one of the database versions most used by organizations, Oracle Database 11g, it is important that companies that still use this version, pay attention to the next upgrade from Oracle. This work was elaborated by means of exploratory research, using as methods and research techniques the documentary and bibliographic analysis, with the purpose of providing steps with techniques and methods of how to proceed with two oracle projects, one of migration from the Linux operating system Red Hat 4.4.7-3 for Oracle Linux 7.7, and a version upgrade from Oracle Database 11g to Oracle Database 19c, presenting strategies using tools and following Oracle's recommendations. This study was built based on real demands that companies have been facing with this great dilemma, the discontinuity of support for the Oracle database 11g version. The observed results were, official support from Oracle, architectural change in order to be prepared for a supposed intervention with updating and migration of services to the cloud

    Development of a low-cost prototype: Pitot Tube designed to measure the mass and the volumetric flow rates of fluids

    This study aims to develop a low-cost prototype to measure the mass and volumetric flow rate of fluids through the construction of a Pitot Tube. This meter must be able to measure the mass flow rate of air for different pressure values using only the water height level variation. For the development of the prototype, low-cost materials were used, in addition to some necessary tools. These experimental models are a didactic proposal for teaching and learning about the flow of fluids discipline, where it was verified that the experimental values found presented satisfactory results correlated with the theoretical concepts of an ideal fluid present in the literature. Thus, the Bernoulli and Torricelli equations were applied to assess the quality of the measurement method, to facilitate the learning of undergraduate students in the Production Engineering Course through conciliation between theory and practice in the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory discipline classes. Finally, the prototype experiment was exposed to other students at the institutional event called “I Integrar Produção” held by UFRA at the Parauapebas Campus

    Victims profile in function of motorcycle engine potency and assisted by the Fire Department of Uberlândia, Brazil

    Introduction: Traffic accidents are a global issue, especially in emerging countries, resulting in a high number of deaths and significant social and economic expenditures with victims. Motorcycle accidents stand out mainly by its greater vulnerability, and studies relating bike engine potency and accidents are still rare. Objective: To trace the profile of victims involved in motorcycle accidents as a function of motorcycle power that were assisted by the Fire Department in Uberlândia, Brazil.  Methodology: A transversal, retrospective, analytic and quantitative study, based on a public database. Twelve thousand nine hundred occurrence reports were retrospectively analyzed between 2015 and 2018 in the Integrated System of Social Defense from the Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais state database. Variables that allowed accident characterization were collected (such as motorcycle conductor or passenger and from the accident itself) and were compared in function of the motorcycle power or engine potency (less than 250 CC as low and more than 250 CC as high).  Results: There was a lack of information in reports about the accident and even greater lack about the injured person, ranging from 0% to 52%. The predominance of accidents was with motorcycles below 250 CC. The values of severity and clinical data scores were not different between engine potency categories, except for the heart frequency of the injured, with a median of 82 and 80 beats for high and low engine potency, respectively. A greater frequency of accidents involving men, single, with higher education conducting motorcycles over 250 CC, involved in falls, with occurrence between 18:01 and 24:00 hours was noted. However, accidents occurred mostly with small-sized vehicles and motorcycles and did not differ between days of the week. Accidents showed a spatial pattern where most accidents occurred downtown and, consequently, in more commercial regions, with no major differences in engine potency.  Conclusion: Even though accident severity did not differ between engine potency categories, the profile of participants showed some differences. This information, along with more complete and broader data in the reports, can offer subsides for more assertive public policy implementation to mitigate traffic accidents

    An Analytical Framework for Evaluating Potential Truck Parking Locations

    As the number of trucks on the road continues to increase, mandatory rest periods combined with a decreasing number of parking spaces and amenities geared towards truck drivers have created a paradoxical yet often overlooked issue of truck parking shortage. Especially within the urbanized landscape of New Jersey, truck stops are rarely considered as the highest and best use form of development and those that exist are often expensive to operate. Most of the existing research on this issue has focused on parking demand modeling or applications of the intelligent transportation system technology to improve the use of existing truck stops. Nonetheless, limited previous research has focused on expanding truck parking capacity. This study develops a methodological framework for evaluating some of the important social, economic, and environmental factors when planning the development of a new truck parking facility. With an example application to the State of New Jersey, this study presents a step-by-step analytical process to help prioritize potential truck parking locations
