DESIGN THINKING AS A TOOL TO THE TEACHING OF CHILDREN, AND TEACHERS IN THE 21st CENTURY: An Integrative Review
Children become more motivated to learn when what is presented to them reflects or simulates their own reality, providing a sense of authenticity to education. This article aims to analyse which studies have already been carried out in the scope of the use and teaching of Design Thinking for children in the school environment. In order to achieve this aim, a descriptive exploratory research was conducted, based on the integrative literature review, with the Scopus and Web of Science platforms as the basis. It was noticed that Design Thinking is a valuable tool for the empowerment of children and adolescents, as it stimulates empathy, communication, creativity, and the ability to analyse and solve problems. One point that should be drawn from the articles is that there is few formally structured materials on the use of Design Thinking as a pedagogical practice, which can hinder its more accelerated dissemination. Finally, although interventions are centred on children and adolescents, educators need to realize that they are the primary factor for transformation, through their involvement, dedication, and attitude. Therefore, they need to be qualified, aware of their role as facilitators, guiding in this collaborative journey of critical thinking, and problem-solving in an innovative and future-oriented way

Did Science Leadership Fail SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination Acceptance? Science Leadership SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination
The 21st century brought unprecedented challenges for academic medicine. Then, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) arrived—and has attributed to more than 600,000 deaths in the United States (US) alone. Two, readily available, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-authorized COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are more than 90% effective in preventing Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Yet, only 55% of all Americans have been partially vaccinated and 45% are fully vaccinated. Most new COVID-19 cases occur in unvaccinated people. In select regions across the US, intensive care units are, once again, overfilled. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has spread far beyond healthcare causing global socioeconomic disruptions and affecting overall human well-being. In my classroom, getting it less than 60% right earns a student an F grade. America has failed to convince its people of the vaccine benefit. How? Was it the government? It is no secret that most Americans don’t trust the government. Did science leadership fail to communicate with the public? Should our educators have taught us more science? Did physicians fail to be open and transparent with their patients? Should we be a more trusting nation? Perhaps all –perhaps none—of these are contributing factors. Is human response behavior taking a toll on human life? One thing is for sure. It is a great injustice that American lives continue to be lost and that others continue to live in fear. More than two millennia ago, the philosopher Socrates argued that humility is the greatest of all virtues. In this report, I elaborate on humble leadership by scientists to improve the imperfect art of communication as a solution to heal our beloved nation
Target costing: Model proposal for a small construction business
The implementation of a cost control system in construction companies contributes to reducing resource losses in the production process and increasing business productivity and profitability, especially when it comes to small business, which normally do not have a planning system and efficient control. Therefore, this article aims to propose a target costing model for a small construction business, concerning the efficient evaluation of its costs for the maximization of profits in proposals to provide services to public entities. A case study is used, in which data collection occurred through a questionnaire, observations of the process of preparing financial proposals, other unstructured questions, and documentary search, whose approach includes descriptive and qualitative research. The survey results revealed that the enterprise has a cost control system, but is technologically backward. Besides, the enterprise already intuitively used the concepts of target cost in preparing budgets. After evaluating the costs, a target costing model was suggested for the enterprise to use as a parameter in the bidding processes, however, it was not implemented due to the current unfavorable conditions
COMPOSTING MODEL WITH THE REUSE OF ORGANIC WASTE IN RURAL SCHOOLS
School institutions become producers of organic waste as a result of the daily consumption of school meals offered to students during the school year. An alternative, so that this material is not incorrectly released into the environment, is the implementation of a composting model that will reuse organic waste, generating humus, which will serve as fertilizer for the implementation of a vegetable garden in the school in the rural area. This work aims to propose a composter model in a School in the Rural Area of Manaus for the reuse of organic waste, to develop a prototype of composter for the production of humic substances and mineral nutrients for the creation of gardens, to prepare the manual with guidelines for the correct and sustainable management of the composting plant and the school garden and implementing the garden system through the composting process using school organic waste. The work is a case study that proposes to implement a prototype of compost for the production of humic substances and mineral nutrients for the construction of a school garden. It is intended that the proposal raises the awareness of the school community for the correct management and reuse of solid waste generated by the school and arouse in students and teachers the interest in environmental education and behavior change for the preservation of the environment in which they live
Teaching Electromagnetism through a Transmission and Reception System of Electromagnetic Waves
The learning of phenomena related to electromagnetic waves develops in an evident way when students are stimulated significantly and, one of the possible ways are contextualized experimental practices. In this way, a system was developed that allows the sending and reception of electromagnetic waves, which can be provided by a signal generator or by a transmitting radio. For the implementation of the system, two Yagi-Uda antennas were built, intended for the transmission and reception of signals; for the emission of signals a low-power transmitter radio and for the measurement of the intensity of the received signals, a signal intensity meter was constructed from a multimeter in which a circuit was added that converts the signals received into direct current proportional to their intensity. The system was used in the physics discipline of high school, where it was observed that using this system, the students presented a better understanding of the phenomena related to electromagnetic waves
Teachers’ Critical Challenges and Opportunities in Modular Distance Delivery
This paper explores the challenges and opportunities in Modular Distance Delivery. Data was collected from elementary schools of Bayugan City Division, Philippines. This research applied descriptive-quantitative-correlational method. The subject of this research are the Elementary teachers in Bayugan City Division Philippines. The study revealed that, support from the school in crafting modules for modular distance learning is very important to make an effective and efficient material for effective instructional delivery. It further explains that there is no significant difference among teachers’ critical challenges and opportunities in modular distance learning delivery. This means that the participants profile does not define their effectivity. No matter what the challenges in terms of modular distance learning delivery they do not back out they pass through it. The result of the study recommends to the DepEd School heads and administrators to support on crafting educational modules to create a well-crafted instructional material to address the needs of the learners especially in modular distance learning. Aside from that, teachers also ensure that the modules created suits to the needs of the learners
GOVERNANCE PROPOSAL FOR AN INNOVATION CENTER INSERTED IN A REFERRED ECOSYSTEM : THE CASE OF MACEIÓ
As an important economic and social transformation strategy that has been adopted throughout the world, the formation of local innovation ecosystems constitutes a network of cooperation in favor of local development through the innovation economy formed by different types of actors. Among these actors, innovation habitats stand out, in particular, innovation centers that bring together in a single location several mechanisms, programs and other habitats in one place, and can thus become an epicenter of innovation ecosystems. However, depending on the degree of maturity of the ecosystem, the management and integration of an innovation center may have certain difficulties in its execution, therefore, this article presents a governance model, called hive, based on the case of the innovation center Jaraguá in Maceió/AL, recently launched within an ecosystem still under construction. At the end, a unique new look at the governance of an innovation center in a reference ecosystem is launched, demonstrating its main obstacles, strengths and how the flow of knowledge is developed in it
Application of RFID Technology in Public Sectors in Brazil
RFID technology is a technology of 4.0 Industry that seeks to support logistical management by enabling data communication and allowing enhanced control of managed goods from a certain institution. One way of application is in Asset Management, granting a greater efficiency in public management, security, control and automation. This project aims to analyze the scientific production published in association to related aspects of the RFID technology at public agencies in Brazil. A systematic literature review was carried out in Science Direct and Google Scholar databases between the years 2015 and 2020. There was a total of 17 studies that addressed the RFID application in the management of mobile assets at public agencies in Brazil, which most of them being application proposals at Public Universities and Army, where the concentration of these chattel are bigger and demonstrates the efficiency of this technology on controlling tracked goods, exploiting all the advantages that this system makes possible
Silicon In the Growth of Rice Seedlings Pretreated with Dietholate and Subjected to Cold Stress
Silicon (Si) is an enzyme stimulator that can promote signaling for the production of antioxidant compounds, important in cellular detoxification of excess ROS accumulated during stress. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of Si on post-germination rice seeds in the mitigation of cold stress combined with stress induced by seed treatment with the dietholate protector. The experimental design was fully randomized with three replicates and a 3x2x2x4x2 factorial arrangement: three temperatures (5, 10 and 20 °C), two cultivars (IRGA 424 RI and Guri INTA CL), two seed pretreatments (with and without dietholate), four rates of Si (0; 4.0; 8.0 and 16 mg.L-1) and two sources of Si (sodium and potassium metasilicate). Seed pretreatment with dietholate reduced shoot and radicle length, especially at the lower temperatures of 5 and 10 °C. Sodium metasilicate as the source of Si was more efficient in boosting shoot and radicle length, both with and without pretreatment, regardless of temperature. Si was found to attenuate low-temperature stress and the impairment of shoot and radicle growth in rice seedlings grown from seeds pretreated with dietholate
