    No full text
Hospital effluents are characterized as possible vehicles for the dissemination of numerous pathogenic microorganisms and other contaminants and, when left untreated, represent a potential risk to man and the environment. The objective of this research was to evaluate the presence of arable pathogenic microorganisms present and to verify the efficacy of ozone in the disinfection of effluents from a public hospital in the city of Uberlandia-MG. Hospital effluent collections were performed at two points, with a distance of 200 m: the first point, from the Emergency Room, wards, intensive care unit, surgical center and laboratory and the second point, hemodialysis, kitchen, laundry and clothing. Sampling was performed for three months. The samples were evaluated for the presence of total mesophiles, total and thermotolerant coliforms, Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. The effluent was treated with ozone for different periods of time. The presence of mesophiles, coliforms, Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. was verified in both effluents and in all months of evaluation. Ozone was effective in decontamination of hospital effluent, requiring 20 minutes to eliminate bacterial load

LEADERSHIP IN EDUCATION AND THE PHENOMENON OF THE GLASS CEILING

In recent years there has been an increase in the presence of women in management positions. However, many studies have shown that women are treated stereotypically in the workplace. In particular, both the biological and the social sex as it is formed through stereotypes and prejudices, create obstacles, inhibiting the promotion of women to leadership positions. These obstacles are usually invisible and are the so-called Glass Ceiling phenomenon. As a result, women are under-represented in high-ranking positions as they are evaluated by different criteria than men. In the field of education, although the majority of teachers are women, the leadership of the educational units is presented to belong to men in a way that exudes "hegemonic masculinity" (Daraki, 2007), since it is governed by masculine values. Nevertheless, women have entered the field of work education dynamically, with the result that the 20th century is characterized as a century of women. Of course, the "weak sex" has given and gives many struggles in its effort to break the Glass Roof and strengthen its position in the labor and social sector

    No full text
The study presents the creative approach as a teaching proposal for digital learners in formal learning spaces. An environment where the student perceives himself as a citizen in the individual sphere, in the collective, and in the cultural environment, in which the appropriation of knowledge is impacted by cultural aspects and their surroundings. The learning elements form a link between digital technologies, pro9grammatic content, and the guidelines of the national normative document, contemplating the needs of 21st-century learners. The creative approach aims to awaken the student’s interest in their learning process, assuming the responsibility of authorship guided by the teacher through cooperation and interaction practices. Thus, we have applications incorporated into the appropriation of knowledge that allow us to understand and master the codified digital language underlying the cyberculture with the ability to create and develop as global citizen

The problem of students’ attitude towards learning in the science arm of secondary schools in Nigeria has been a subject of concern and discuss. This study investigated high-stakes tests as determinants of students’ attitude towards learning science in senior secondary schools in Nigeria. Two research questions were raised and answered, and three hypotheses were formulated and tested to guide the study at .05 level of significance. A sample of 6349 students and teachers was utilized for the study. The research instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire titled: High-stakes and Students’ Attitude Questionnaire (HSSAQ). The instrument was subjected to face and content validity; Cronbach Alpha reliability analysis which yielded 0.84 coefficient. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple regression and independent t-test statistics. The results using multiple regression revealed that significant influence exists for the independent variable (high-stakes tests, r=0.335, p<0.05). The mean difference in the opinions of the respondents regarding high-stakes tests were higher for teachers (X̅=53.63, SD=6.77) than students (X̅=52.8904, SD=7.55), t(6347)=-2.704, p>0.05, F=1.322, p=.250), however there was no significant difference. In conclusion, high-stakes test factors have significant influence on students’ attitude towards learning science in Nigeria. Therefore, it is recommended among others, that teachers and educators need to pay more attention to the effects of high-stakes testing in their school

Challenges of the Concept of Modernity and Post-Modernity in Education

    No full text
The discipline "Contemporary Theories of Education", in the Ph.D. course in the education of the University of Uberaba – UNIUBE, aims to foster reflections on the main educational epistemological trends. This work presents the construction of modern science highlighting Galileo Galilei, and Descartes in his trajectory on scientific rationalism. In addition, a reflection on postmodern science and education was built based on the texts of Baudelaire, Habermas, Jameson, and Lyotard, and the professor Newton Duarte’s lecture "Education, Modernity, and Postmodernity". The process of conceptualization of modernity and postmodernity takes into account the moment selected for the study. Based on this study, it can be noticed that simplifying thought is not able to understand diversity to know unity. To take in the knowledge, it is necessary to critically analyze society in parallel. The change of social mentality is only possible through the analytical knowledge that is taught many times by the school. However, the school needs to be reformulated to socialize knowledge and make this knowledge put into practice in the social environment

    No full text
The popularization of online video platforms has also increased the number of producers who, with reduced teams or composed of a single person, have an inexperienced profile in this activity. Thus, among the various specificities of the material produced, the sound issue tends to be underestimated, sometimes harming the message to be transmitted. The objective of the research was to develop a guide that would help the process of selection and use of music tracks, enhancing the audiovisual message. For the development of the digital solution, we used the methodologies of the Essential Competencies of Information Design (Simlinger, 2007) and Project E by Meurer & Szabluk (2010). As a result, we present the website Motif, with content on the use of music tracks in audiovisual material, based on emotions and musical characteristics, sensations, music track effects, soundtrack-based video editing, and a music tracks search tool, according to the listed concepts

    No full text
Before the covid-19 pandemic paradigm, the education sector has been facing several challenges. Especially in the Chemistry area, the subjectivity and complexity conditions are admitted by many students when it is about teaching the content of this science. Furthermore, the promotion of active methodologies for teaching Inclusive Chemistry is deficient, mainly, methodologies which contemplate the particularities of the deaf community. In this context, the purpose of the present work is to offer remote teaching activities that addressed the content of Organic Chemistry in a contextualized way with environmental awareness regarding Urban Waste (RU), involving the principles of Inclusive Education (IE) for a high school class consisting of hearing and deaf students from a public school in Brazil. As for the methodology, the research was based on a qualitative and participatory perspective. Aiming at a methodological proposal which contemplates the students´ educational gaps, especially the deaf population, such as accessibility in Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), the classes were contextualized with support by Digital Information and Communication Technologies (TDICs). Based on the activities carried out in the school environment, it was possible to verify continuous participation of all students, especially, in the activity which involved the water pollution simulator using the "Mozaik Education" software and showing how water pollution occurs upon contact with wastewater in a safe way. Therefore, the teaching resources used in this study were efficient, because they are facilitating agents in the knowledge acquisition process

    No full text
The current study explores structural changes in radio and assesses their impact on music listeners in Pakistan utilizing the theoretical underpinnings of the political economy of communication. A mixed-method approach was used to answer research questions and evaluate hypotheses. A contextual analysis was utilized to evaluate the qualitative analysis after the interviews with 14 experts in the Pakistani radio industry were transcribed. Cross-tabulation with chi-square test, Independent Sample T-test, and AVOVA with Tukey tests were used to analyze survey responses from 200 respondents in order to determine the correlations between variables. The findings show that structural trends in the radio industry's deregulation and commercialization have curtailed access to a varied range of listeners in Pakistan. According to the research, deregulation, licensing fees, new license fees, and the restriction of Indian music, revenue generation, and licensing to nonprofit FM radio have all limited access to a diverse spectrum of radio music listeners in Pakistan. This trend also leads broadcast media in Pakistan to produce and disseminate more entertainment programming rather than information and education programs

SAFETY PROFILE AND PREVENTION OF COGNITIVE DEFICIT IN ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE MODEL OF GRAPHENE FAMILY NANOMATERIALS, TUCUMA OIL (Astrocaryum vulgare) AND ITS SYNERGISMS

    No full text
Alzheimer's disease is a worldwide health issue, and there are currently no treatments that can stop this disease. Oxidized graphene derivatives have gained prominence in use in biological systems due to their excellent physical-chemical characteristics, biocompatibility and ability to overcome the blood-brain barrier. Other substances highlighted are those of natural origin from the Amazon biome, such as tucuma, a fruit whose oil has been widely studied in therapeutic applications. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the action of graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide and tucuma oil, isolated and combined, as an alternative for treatment of Alzheimer's disease through studies in silico, in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo. Computational simulation via docking was used to verify the affinity of the substances with the proteins β-amyloid and acetylcholinesterase, in which the reduced graphene oxide was the one that showed the most favorable interaction. The results of the ab initio simulation showed that the synergism between the nanostructures and the oil occurs through physical adsorption. The experimental results revealed that the substances and their combinations were nontoxic, both at the cellular and systemic level. In general, all treatments had positive results against induced memory deficit, but reduced graphene oxide was the most prominent, as it was able to protect against memory damage in all behavioral tests performed, with anticholinesterase activity and antioxidant effect. In conclusion, the reduced graphene oxide is, among the treatments studied, the one with great therapeutic potential to be investigated in the treatment of this disease
