With the growth of Web 2.0 and the use of Internet communications, social media has become a major influencer of consumer behavior. These platforms have changed significantly how consumers make purchase decisions. Social media and Web 2.0 technologies have gained immense popularity worldwide, attracting users of all ages. Companies are now exploring these technologies as useful tools for enhancing customer interaction. To achieve this, businesses have been utilizing social media in various scenarios to connect with customers in ways including easing information search, promoting engagement, and optimizing customer purchasing behavior. Unsurprisingly, the related challenges of social media marketing have drawn the attention of academics and researchers to further the understanding of these phenomena. The purpose of this article is to investigate the relationship between social media usage and consumer impulse buying. Through a systematic review, we aim to present the current state of literature in this field and analyze the extent to which social media platforms can stimulate unplanned purchases. Using systematic searches of articles published in Scopus, Web of Science, and Springer Link, 64 journal articles were selected for the review. Our findings indicate six research themes: (1) antecedents of impulsive buying on social media, (2) the role of personality traits in impulsive Buying on social media (3) the impact of COVID-19 on impulsive buying and social media use, (4) role of Social Media Influencers, (5) impulsive buying on social commerce platforms and (6) consumer cultural and generational differences. Different research gaps have been identified and future research directions are provided in terms of theory, context, and methodology.   Keywords: Impulsive buying, social media, systematic literature review, consumer behavior.

    No full text
The debate between free trade and open access in the context of Moroccan exports raises crucial questions. While free trade promotes economic growth by eliminating trade barriers, open access emphasizes the overall availability of resources. In the case of Morocco, this dichotomy takes on a particular dimension due to the significance of its diverse sectors. Advocates for free trade highlight increased competitiveness in international markets, while proponents of open access emphasize the importance of ensuring access to local products for everyone. Examining these two approaches closely, it becomes essential to find a balance that promotes both economic development and national self-sufficiency. Morocco has established strategic free trade agreements (FTAs) with several global partners, including the European Union, the United States, Turkey, and countries in the MENA region. These agreements aim to promote the free movement of goods and services, fostering economic growth by opening new trade opportunities. Through these partnerships, Morocco has diversified its export markets, strengthening its position in the global economy and boosting key sectors such as agriculture, industry, and services. To analyze the impact of these FTAs on the open access of Moroccan exports, we will conduct an empirical verification using a gravity model to understand the influence of these agreements on Morocco's exportable supply.   Keywords : Free Trade, Open access, Exports, Free trade agreement, Gravity model. JEL Classification : F10, F13, F14, F50, O13, O24. The inauguration of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) signified a pivotal moment for Africa's economic and political integration, establishing a new paradigm for reshaping trade relations and reinforcing regional cooperation in an era of rapid globalization. This theoretical article aims to analyze the impact and significance of the AfCFTA within the context of globalization and African integration, assessing its political and economic implications through a comprehensive exploration of the challenges and opportunities it presents. The objective of this article is to examine how the AfCFTA, as a pan-African initiative, can boost intra-African trade, foster sustainable economic growth, and strengthen political stability across the continent. The study adopts a theoretical methodology based on the analysis of existing data, economic projections, and trade policies to explore the multifaceted dimensions of the AfCFTA. Findings indicate that the AfCFTA holds the potential to redefine the African economic landscape by facilitating trade, harmonizing regulations, and creating a single market for goods and services. For instance, according to the World Bank, the full implementation of the AfCFTA could increase Africa's real income by 7% or $450 billion by 2035. However, achieving these objectives faces significant challenges, including the need for adequate infrastructure, effective governance, and political coordination among member states. The article highlights the practical implications of the AfCFTA for policymakers, business communities, and financial institutions, emphasizing the importance of strategic engagement and coordinated implementation. Furthermore, it underscores the originality and value of the AfCFTA as a unique initiative for regional economic integration, proposing recommendations to overcome hurdles and maximize the benefits of integration.

Entrepreneurship by necessity: A systematic literature review

    No full text
Necessity entrepreneurship arises when individuals are compelled to engage in entrepreneurial activities due to a lack of more favorable employment opportunities, in contrast to opportunity entrepreneurship, which emerges from attractive business prospects. This distinction is based on fundamental motivations: opportunity entrepreneurship is often associated with innovation and economic growth, whereas necessity entrepreneurship is generally linked to economic constraints and high unemployment rates. In the current economic context, characterized by recurrent financial crises, fluctuations in unemployment rates, and increasing disparities, the study of necessity entrepreneurship is gaining importance. This form of entrepreneurship is particularly crucial in developing countries, where it often represents the only means for many individuals to meet their needs and those of their families. This article is based on a systematic review of academic articles and research on necessity entrepreneurship. It analyzes the specific characteristics of necessity entrepreneurs and the factors influencing their entrepreneurial journey, presenting an exploration of these entrepreneurs' profiles, their motivations, and the obstacles they face. Additionally, it evaluates the economic and social impact of their activities, providing perspectives for policymakers and support organizations to formulate recommendations aimed at creating a favorable environment and tailored support programs, thereby enhancing the economic potential of necessity entrepreneurship in developing economies. By situating necessity entrepreneurship within a broader theoretical framework, integrating theories of motivation and entrepreneurial behavior, the study enriches the understanding of the underlying dynamics. Theories such as Maslow's hierarchy of needs and Barney's resource-based view offer valuable insights into why individuals facing unmet fundamental needs or limited access to resources may be driven to undertake entrepreneurship out of necessity. The exploration of contextual and cultural differences in necessity entrepreneurship reveals significant variability in entrepreneurship rates between countries, influenced by economic conditions, social structures, and public policies. This systematic literature review provides a comprehensive analysis of necessity entrepreneurship and its socio-economic repercussions, making a substantial contribution to the academic literature in management sciences.   Keywords: Necessity Entrepreneurship, Necessity Entrepreneur, Socio-economic Impact, Institutional Support, Literature Review JEL Classification :M10, M12, M13, M50. Bottom of the Pyramid Strategies as a Development Tool: Case of Morocco Microfinance

    No full text
Microfinance emerges as a special tool for Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) strategies developed by Prahalad (2005). It has an interesting history in Morocco since 1993 with a non-profit organization granting small loans to rural women (Diani, 2019). The initiative has aroused the interest of public authorities and international institutions, allowing a considerable growth of microfinance (Duval, 2001). Using a systematic review of empirical articles, this paper aims to explore how BoP strategies function as a development tool in Moroccan microfinance. We’ll consider financial outcomes as income, saving, expenditure, accumulation of assets, and expanding current activities; as well as non-financial outcomes including health, food security and nutrition, education, child labor, and women’s empowerment. We’ll examine the regulatory environment, key players, and trends in the sector, assessing the impact of microcredit on low-income populations. We’ll also identify challenges and opportunities to enhance financial inclusion and economic development in Morocco. The mixed outcomes of microcredit impact on poor populations all over the world pushed us to investigate the case of Morocco, answering the question: Does microcredit combine social development with profitability? We find positive impacts for borrowers, even if, in some cases, talk about non-significant outcomes whose causes must be sought elsewhere, such as the transformative effect (Banerjee et al., 2015) or loan delinquency (Chong, 2021).   Keywords: BoP strategies, microcredit, impact, Morocco.

    No full text
This article aims to assess the impact of renewable energy consumption on CO2 emissions in Morocco for the period 1980-2021, both in the short and long term. It also aims to verify the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). To achieve this, we rely on the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology (STIRPAT) model and employ the linear autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach. The results obtained indicate, on the one hand, the presence of a negative but non-significant correlation between CO2 emissions and renewable energy consumption, and on the other hand, the non-validation of the environmental Kuznets hypothesis. This result can be explained by the country's energy structure, which is characterized by a heavy reliance on fossil fuels, almost entirely imported, leading to negative repercussions on both economic growth and the environment. In terms of public policy, it is necessary for Morocco to accelerate its energy transition in order to reduce environmental pollution.   Keywords: Renewable energies, CO2 emissions, EKC, ARDL, STIRPAT model, Morocco Classification JEL : Q56.

    No full text
The study of the relationship between institutions and economic growth is essential for understanding growth dynamic within a country. In Morocco, this relationship is particularly important due to ongoing institutional reforms and the specific economic challenges the country faces. Economic institutions, such as fiscal policies, market regulations, and governance systems, play a pivotal role in establishing an environment conducive to growth. The objective of this paper is to examine the impact of institutional quality on economic growth in Morocco. Theoretically, we present a literature review that studies the possible influences between the quality of institutions and economic growth. Empirically, we analyze these influences through econometric modeling (error correction model ECM) over the period 1995-2020. The results of the ECM estimation allowed us to demonstrate that the quality of institutions has a significant impact on economic growth, particularly with the variable Corruption Perception Index (CPI), which negatively and significantly influences GDP growth. For the variables (DLC, DLE, DLT), the influence is positive, and positive but not significant for the variables (DLF, DLP).   Keywords: Institutions, Quality of institutions, Economic growth, error correction model.

    No full text
This article present a theoretical review of the evolution of entrepreneurial support in Morocco, focusing on the central question: how has this practice, primarily targeting young Moroccan entrepreneurs, developed from 1972 to the present day? We employ a narrative literature review to conduct this research, thoroughly analyzing historical documents related to the topic. We begin by defining the concept of entrepreneurial support and examining its semantics to fully understand its scope. Next, we trace the emergence and development of this practice in a global context before focusing specifically on the Moroccan context. This approach allows us to evaluate the developmental stages of this phenomenon in Morocco. The results reveal a steady and diverse progression of funding and support programs, as well as previous experiences at the national level. The theoretical conclusions highlight the importance of support initiatives for entrepreneurial development in Morocco. However, certain theoretical limitations persist, primarily due to the lack of comprehensive documentary resources and empirical data. Despite these limitations, this study provides a comprehensive perspective on the various phases of the emergence and development of entrepreneurial support in Morocco, thereby contributing valuable insights to the understanding of this phenomenon.   Keywords: Entrepreneurship; support; entrepreneurs; funding programs.

    No full text
This work is an attempt to understand the different challenges linked to the investment climate in Morocco where growth objectives are mainly linked to investment capacities. Through a Top-Bottom analysis, we will link the results of a growth diagnosis to the results of the testimonies of 100 managers of industrial companies operating in the three driving sectors of Moroccan industry, namely agri-food, textiles and chemistry and parachemistry. The high-low analysis or the HRV method (Hausmann, Rodrick and Valesco, 2006) which links macro-economic and micro-economic results, allows on the one hand to show the place of the investment climate in the explanation of economic growth in Morocco through a growth diagnosis, and on the other hand determine the impact of the various obstacles linked to the investment climate (access to land, weak infrastructure, administrative problems, corruption, etc.) on the activity companies in these three sectors. The main objective of the results of this paper is to confirm the place that the investment climate plays in economic growth in Morocco, and to determine the elements of the investment climate which most influence economic activity in Morocco, to specify the measures and actions necessary to improve these elements.   Keywords: Investment climate, Institution, High-low analysis, Agri-food, Textile, Chemistry and parachemistry.
