    Educação estética em mostras artístico-pedagógicas no curso de pedagogiamédia

    Durante o processo de investigação de mestrado, conduzido na Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú (UVA), desenvolvemos uma mostra artístico-pedagógica, em colaboração com estudantes do Curso de Pedagogia que participaram de uma pesquisa de mestrado. A iniciativa, centrada no método “Colcha de Retalhos”, de Berkenbrock-Rosito (2009), incentivou os participantes a criarem obras visuais inspiradas em suas próprias vivências. A qualidade e o impacto dessas produções nos motivaram a expandir o projeto para além das salas de aula, organizando uma exposição nos corredores da universidade. O propósito deste artigo é refletir acerca do potencial educativo das mostras artístico-pedagógicas na formação de pedagogos, destacando como a interseção entre arte e o campo educacional pode enriquecer o aprendizado e fomentar a criatividade dos futuros profissionais da área

    Revealing chronotypes across aquatic species using acoustic telemetry

    Acoustic telemetry offers valuable opportunities to investigate individual variability in circadian-related and other behaviours and how environmental cues shape these patterns in wild fish populations. However, this potential has not yet been fully exploited. We conducted a meta-analysis on 44 datasets from 34 distinct marine and freshwater species and different types of data (acoustic detections, depth, acceleration and positioning). Our aim was to explore the potential of acoustic telemetry in identifying chronotypes as consistent among-individual differences in circadian-related behaviours. First, we applied hidden semi-Markov models to classify individual time series into active and rest states. Subsequently, we computed two classical circadian-related behavioural traits: awakening time (as the activity onset) and rest onset (as the activity offset). Subsequently, we identified distinct phenotypes by decomposing behavioural variation into within- and among-individual components based on repeatability scores. We found evidence of distinct chronotypes in 17 species, with average repeatability scores of 0.52 for awakening time and 0.43 for rest onset, revealing that chronotypes are common in aquatic species. Our findings highlight that both the data type, particularly acceleration sensors, and the number of detections are effective tools for exploring chronotypes. Our study proposes a novel approach to characterising daily activity patterns in aquatic species, predominantly in fishes, and provides guidelines for investigating chronotypes across diverse taxa.     Navigating trade-offs on conservation: the use of participatory mapping in maritime spatial planning

    Maritime spatial planning (MSP) has evolved to incorporate features like authoritative, participatory, ecosystem-based, integrated, future-oriented, and adaptive approaches. MSP seeks a balance between maritime activities and sustainable development within ecological limits, an ecosystem-based approach (EBA). A trade-off in the context of MSP refers to the compromise or exchange between different objectives, interests, or uses of marine resources and space. The aim of this paper is to provide methodological guidelines for applying a trade-off methodology for marine protected areas (MPAs) design within the MSP context. The guidelines have developed participatory-based trade-off scenarios to weigh the impacts of the multi-objective spatial and strategic management measures, using participatory mapping, providing a valuable framework for design of MSP and MPAs. The lessons learned and recommendations provided aim to guide future MSP endeavours, emphasising the importance of continuous improvement, innovation, and adaptation in the dynamic field of MSP for sustainable marine management and conservation

    Bell beaker footed bowls in the Iberian Peninsula: A trial inventory apropos a find from the Lapa do Fumo Cave (Sesimbra, Portugal)

    The Lapa do Fumo cave (Sesimbra, Estremadura, Portugal) features a funerary context that has been extensively used since the Early Neolithic. A recent review of the votive assemblages revealed the presence of a vessel sherd belonging to a Bell Beaker footed bowl, featuring part of the base and the start of the foot, with incised decoration on the outer surface. This type of vessel, although quite rare, is known from various Bell Beaker complexes of the Iberian Peninsula throughout the entire time span of the Beaker phenomenon, mostly corresponding to the second half of the 3rd millennium BCE. Its geographical distribution in Iberia is equally widespread, occurring both in funerary and residential contexts. Starting from the Lapa do Fumo sherd presented herein, the authors will present an inventory of all known examples, integrating them into their respective chronological and cultural contexts. A technical and functional discussion is also included, based on an estimate of these items’ capacities

    Exposure of an intertidal fish to simulated heatwaves and suspended sediment – a multistressor approach

    Extreme climatic events, such as marine heatwaves (MHW) and increased suspended sediment concentration (SSC), are increasing in frequency and intensity, resulting in sudden changes to coastal environments, especially intertidal zones. Intertidal animals experience conditions that substantially fluctuate over temporal and spatial scales and therefore require the ability to physiologically tolerate these fluctuations. Since multiple stressors often co-occur and natural populations tend to respond to local environmental fluctuations, we aimed to investigate individual and combined effects of MHW and increased suspended sedimentation in Forsterygion lapillum from two neighbouring coastal areas with distinct water temperatures and wave current regimes by assessing fish oxygen consumption rate, mortality and weight loss. Results showed that in both F. lapillum populations, oxygen consumption rate and survival probability were unaffected by any treatment. However, fish from both populations lost weight during heatwave and multistressor treatments (i.e. heatwave and sedimentation), while fish from the sedimentation treatment alone did not lose weight. Although a direct effect on fish respiration was not found, our results indicate that F. lapillum performance is reduced when exposed to heatwaves individually and in combination with increased sediment suspension. Weight loss indicates that fish experiencing these stressors were unable to meet their metabolic demands

    Labour intensity and systematic risk

    We examine whether firms labour intensity raises systematic risk. Drawing on 12,250 listed, non financial companies from 93 countries, we analyse CAPM betas over five , three and two year windows and separately evaluate their upside (β+) and downside (β− ) components. OLS results show that a one standard deviation increase in labour intensity lifts the five year beta by 0.08 and loads disproportionately on downside risk. Instrumenting labour intensity in a 2SLS framework magnifies the effect, confirming a causal link. Overall, our evidence shows that labour intensive firms worldwide carry higher betas because fixed wage bills magnify operating leverage; the extra risk is most visible when markets decline, making a company’s workforce composition a key driver of its equity risk

    Exploring the development of a clean-label vegan burger enriched with fermented microalgae

    Haematococcus pluvialis and Porphyridium cruentum are red microalgae with high biotechnological potential due to their rich composition of bioactive compounds. However, their intense flavor limits their application in food products. This study evaluated the impact of fermentation with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (30 ◦C for 48 h; LAB-to-biomass ratio of 0.1:1; 106 CFU/mL) on the physicochemical and functional properties of H. pluvialis and P. cruentum biomasses. Particular attention was given to antioxidant activity (ABTS and ORAC assays), color, amino acid profiles, and volatile organic compound (VOC) profiles, all of which may influence sensory characteristics. Results demonstrated that non-fermented H. pluvialis exhibited significantly higher antioxidant activity (AA) than P. cruentum. After fermentation, H. pluvialis showed an ABTS value of 3.22 ± 0.35 and an ORAC value of 54.32 ± 1.79 µmol TE/100 mg DW, while P. cruentum showed an ABTS of 0.26 ± 0.00 and an ORAC of 3.11 ± 0.13 µmol TE/100 mg DW. Total phenolic content (TPC) of fermented H. pluvialis and P. cruentum was 1.08 ± 0.23 and 0.18 ± 0.026 mg GAE/100 mg DW, respectively. Both AA and TPC increased after fermentation. Fermentation also significantly affected biomass color. FTIR analysis showed intensification of protein and carbohydrate vibrational bands post-fermentation. GC-MS analysis of VOCs showed that P. cruentum contained 42 VOCs before fermentation, including trans-β-ionone, 4-ethyl-6-hepten-3-one, hexanal, and heptadienal, which are responsible for fishy and algal odors. Fermentation with Lb. plantarum significantly reduced these compounds, lowering trans-β-ionone to 0.1453 mg/L and eliminating 4-ethyl-6-hepten-3-one entirely. H. pluvialis contained 22 VOCs pre-fermentation; fermentation eliminated hexanal and reduced heptadienal to 0.1747 ± 0.0323 mg/L. These changes contributed to improved sensory profiles. Fermentation also induced significant changes in the amino acid profiles of both microalgae. The fermented biomasses were incorporated into vegan burgers made from chickpea, lentil, and quinoa. Color evaluation showed more stable and visually appealing tones, while texture remained within desirable consumer parameters. These findings suggest that Lb. plantarum fermentation is an effective strategy for improving the sensory and functional characteristics of microalgal biomass, promoting their use as sustainable, value-added ingredients in innovative plant-based foods.UID/Multi/50016/2020; UI/BD/152825/202

    Planning sustainable green blue infrastructure in colombo to optimize park cool Island intensity

    Colombo, a rapidly urbanizing city, increasingly faces the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect due to urban expansion and climate change. Urban parks mitigate UHI by creating cool microclimates, quantified as Park Cool Island Intensity (PCII), the temperature difference between parks and surrounding areas. Colombo exhibits an average cooling effect of 0.98 ◦C } 0.21%. The results found that the park area has the most significant positive relationship with the PCII, where the model explained 87.7% of the variance (R2 = 0.877), indicating a strong fit, following the park perimeter (R2 = 0.811). Park vegetation characteristics exert a significant influence to enhance the cooling effect, with canopy density emerging as a primary factor with a variance of 87.1% (R2 = 0.871). Notably, canopy density of more than 80% demonstrates a marked PCII exceeding 1.0 ◦C. Additionally, other vegetation attributes, tree basal area (R2 = 0.868), tree height (R2 = 0.784), DBH (R2 = 0.757), and stem density (R2 = 0.717), exhibit a significant positive correlation with PCII, following canopy density in descending order. Furthermore, park composition analysis reveals that higher water and green cover contribute to maximizing PCII, underscoring the importance of reducing impervious cover in urban park design. These findings provide valuable insights for urban planners in facilitating the development of more effective urban park designs aimed at maximizing cooling effects, promoting sustainable urban development, and contributing to the achievement of SDG 11 and SDG 13

    AI-driven conservation of the endangered twisted yew (Taxus contorta Griff.) in the western himalaya

    Conserving the threatened West Himalayan endemic T. contorta (Taxaceae) is critical due to extinction risks from skewed male- or female-only populations. This study employs ChatGPT-driven artificial intelligence (AI) analysis for textual synthesis and preliminary hypothesis generation to identify favorable propagation sites for T. contorta within the Swat district of Pakistan. Over three years (2019–2021), eleven male- or female-only populations of T. contorta were surveyed. Environmental data from NASA POWER were analyzed using ChatGPT 3.5 to predict suitable propagation sites, which were then mapped in Google Earth Pro. PCA and hierarchical clustering were applied to identify key environmental variables. Out of 63 generated points, 58 were accurately located in Swat with 92% geographic accuracy, while species-specific general knowledge accuracy was 100%. All points fell within the pre-established T. contorta spatial range in Pakistan, with 21 unique sites meeting optimal conditions. Field surveys confirmed 16 new populations. These findings underscore the promising role of AI-driven analysis in conservation planning by identifying and supporting habitat restoration efforts. A bidirectional integration of AI and SDM, combined with remote sensing technologies, represents a novel approach for the effective conservation of endangered plant species

    Fortnightly switching of residual flow drivers produced by seawater intrusion in a long, non-rotating estuary

    Towed and moored ADCP and salinity measurements were collected in Summer 2023 at two cross-channel transects of the 80-km-long Guadiana Estuary, at 4 km and 20 km from the mouth, during low ( 35 kg/g) intrusion was several kilometres, equivalent to similar to 1/8 of the estuary's length. As a result, the horizontal density gradient was weakest near the mouth where the residual circulation was barotropic, produced by tidal stress at spring tide and possibly by an ESCO mechanism at neap tide. At 20 km upstream, the dominant driver switched from tidal stress at spring tide to a baroclinic (and potentially ESCO) circulation at neap tide. At this location, scaling analyses of the tidally averaged momentum equation using the densimetric tidal Froude number supported the idea of dominance of tidal stress at spring tide
