    Styrofoam bricks.

    Pollution and accumulation of waste is one of the major problems that the present world faces. Of the waste materials the non-degradable plastic waste is the major issue. Among the plastic wastes, Styrofoam wastes share the lion's share. Styrofoam wastes are non-degradable also possess the threat of poisonous gas emission when burnt the main challenge is to recycle without the emission of poisonous gases. In this thought we come to the idea of Styrofoam bricks. The Styrofoam brick mainly consists of Styrofoam, acetone and sand. Styrofoam bricks can be manufactured through 4 kinds of process, dissolution of Styrofoam in acetone, mixing with sand, moulding and drying. Why we are preparing this brick is to get high strength and reduced weight also it is not brittle like the ordinary bricks. This will have good load bearing capacity.     Stabilization of black cotton soil using coconut fiber

    Black cotton soil is a soil with low bearing capacity, swelling and shrinkage characteristics. Due to its peculiar characteristics, it forms a very poor foundation material. As black cotton soil is an expansive soil; it creates problem for lightly loaded structure than moderately loaded structure. Through this project, we are trying to study the improvements in the properties of soil by adding coconut fiber of varying percentages. Tests will be conducted to determine liquid limit and unconfined compression strength. Stabilization of soil is an effective method for improving the properties of soil.     Experimental behaviour of road by using plastic waste

    The use of plastic and related materials is increasing exponentially due to tremendous growth in population, urbanization and changed life style leads to widespread littering of plastic on the landscape. Disposal of waste plastic is a serious problem globally due to their non-biodegradability and hazardous to human healths, since these are not disposed scientifically and thus, create ground and water. If this curse to mankind in the form of waste plastic is used as a boon for mankind by using it as additives in road construction, it will proved to be a best solution over worst road condition. In the present paper techniques has been developed to use plastic waste for construction of bituminous roads and flexible pavements. In general bitumen is used as binder in road construction. Binding properties of this bitumen can be modified by blending it with waste plastic pieces. It can be used for construction purpose.     Study of sisal fibre reinforced concrete in lintels

    Concrete made with Portland cement has certain characteristics: - it is relatively strong in compression but weak in tension and tends to fail quickly when subjected to Tension. The deficiency in tension can be mitigated with conventional reinforcement & to some extent by the inclusion of a sufficient volume of Fibers. Change in the behavior of the Fiber – matrix composite after it has cracked, is due to the addition of Fibers (Balasubramanyan et al. 2015) Sisal Fiber is a promising concrete composite on account of its low density, less cost, increased specific strength and modulus, zero health risk, and it is easily cultivated in few countries including India. There has been an increasing interest in finding new applications for sisal-fiber which is traditionally used for making ropes, mats, carpets, fancy articles and others. The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of sisal fibers in concrete to enhance the mechanical characteristics of concrete and compare the differences in properties of concrete containing no fibers with fibers. The correlation on the effects of different type and geometry of fibers to the concrete is also the aim of the research. The scrutiny was carried out using several tests, which contained workability test, compressive test, split tensile test & flexural test. A total of ten mix batches of concrete containing 0%, 0.6%, 0.7%, 0.8% dosage of Fiber were cast. M25 grade concrete is considered for research as this grade is seen maximum consumption in industry.     Laterite as a base and subbase material for flexible pavement – a review

    Rapid economic growth is leading to ubiquitous expansion in highway projects around the world. Utilization of natural aggregate resources for the construction of flexible pavement has led to uncontrollable quarrying in the state of Kerala. The recent landslides in Kerala which took the lives of many people is the aftermath of extensive quarrying activities. Utilization of treated native soil in the structural layers (Subbase and base) of flexible pavement can widely avert the danger associated with ecological imbalance due to quarrying. The main objective of this review article is to enlighten the researchers and practicing engineers about the key advances developed in the last 10 years for utilizing native laterite soil in the base and subbase layers of flexible pavement. On the basis of various researches, laterite soil treated with lime, cement and other additives showed considerable enhancement in the compaction characteristics, unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and California Bearing Ratio (CBR). As stipulated by MORTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways), for a layer to be suitable as a subbase material in flexible pavement, minimum CBR value must be 30%. From the extensive review, it was found that the treated laterite soil satisfied the MORTH criteria for use as a subbase layer in flexible pavement.     Seasonal changes in physico-chemical parameters of Thondi Coast waters, Palk Bay, South East coast, India.

    The present study was carried out to determine the water quality in terms of physicochemical parameters in the coastal waters of Thondi , Palk Bay for a period of one year from Jan2015  to Dec 2015. The analysis of different parameters such as temperature, pH, salinity, TDS, nitrite, nitrate, silicate, inorganic phosphate and total phosphate were carried out using standard methods. Water temperature ranged from 26.0°C-30.0°C, Salinity ranged  (30.1-34.55‰, pH(8.0 -8.2), EC value (45.20103mho- 50.49 103mho), Turbidity 28-59 NTU, TSS value (58.28-95 mg/l), DO (4.01 ml/l -5.61 ml/l), BOD (0.16 mg/- 2.19 mg/l), Chemical Oxygen Demand (0.87 ml/l -19.9mg/l ), Chloride 17252 mg/l -17850 mg/l ), Sulphate (1098.79 mg/l - 2637.41 mg/l),Nitrite  (0.117 µm/l and 1.192 µm/l), nitrate (1.513 µm/l and 12.981 µm/l), Ammonia (0.017 µm/l  and 0.11 µm/l), total nitrogen  (16.531 µm/l and 35.616 µm/l), inorganic phosphate (0.523 µm/l and maximum 2.047 µm/l), Total phosphorus (0.81 µm/l  and 4.386 µm/l)and silicate was recorded 41.676 µm/l and 61.149 µm/l.In sediment samples pH(7.7 -8.1),  Total Phosphorus(1.40µg/g -2.58 µg/g), total nitrogen (4.14 µg/g -9.80 µg/g), total organic carbon (1.70 mg/g-5.84 mg/g).The studies revealed that the physico-chemical parameters of water and samples showed  seasonal variations in Thondi coastal waters.     Violencia económica, física y psicológica en Chile.

    This article argues that present day expansion of capital in Chile is based on the horrendous human rights violations that took place particularly after the 9/11/73 coup d’état. The coup in Chile demonstrates the owners of capital (national or international) have not and will not hesitate to use extreme violence to impose a model of development designed to meet capital needs: maximum profits. In the same manner that capital is indifferent to the consequences of the physical and psychological trauma it brings to humans, it is also indifferent to the environmental destruction it leaves in its path. This article illustrates how the system established by the dictatorship facilitates the exploitation of the labour force and the pillage of Chile's natural resources by national and multinational corporations, today. This also explains the increasing concentration of economic power and wealth in areas such as banking, insurance and the forest industry to name a few. In the case of the forest industry, the state subsidies to this sector, and the resistance of the Mapuche people, are noted. Most of the forest land is in Mapuche territory. The roots of the Mapuche struggle are the same to that of many indigenous peoples around the world: the defense of their territory and culture. As well, other social sectors in Chile are increasingly resisting capital attacks on their physical and social well being. For example, like the Mapuche, students, artisan fishermen are increasingly resisting capital. They are facing the same response from the current government.  Este artículo propone que la experiencia de Chile demuestra que los dueños del capital (nacionales o internacionales) no han dudado y no dudarán en utilizar la violencia extrema para imponer un modelo de desarrollo capitalista diseñado para satisfacer las necesidades del capital: las máximas ganancias. Mediante un examen de dos períodos de tiempo, este artículo ofrece ejemplos de los vínculos entre la violencia organizada de la creación y desarrollo de traumas físicos y psicológicos. El análisis establece conexiones entre la violencia de la dictadura de Pinochet y la represión contemporánea utilizada para facilitar la extracción de madera del territorio tradicional mapuche. El artículo muestra cómo la violencia, que fue clave en la imposición del neoliberalismo, después del golpe de Estado de 1973, se mantiene hoy. Las empresas forestales privatizadas y vendidas por Pinochet a la élite, continúan dependiendo del uso de las fuerzas estatales y tácticas represivas de la era de Pinochet para acumular ganancias. Concluye señalando la necesidad de una investigación académica sobre el trauma de las víctimas actuales de la violencia política

    Las contribuciones del espacio costero marino para pueblos originarios (ECMPO) al bienestar humano de las comunidades indígenas de Carelmapu, Sur de Chile

    Indigenous Marine Areas (ECMPO in Spanish) are the main institutional arrangement for the protection of the indigenous people's livelihoods and the promotion of marine sustainability of southern Chile. This article analyzes the contributions of ECMPO to the human well-being of indigenous communities. Through qualitative research conducted in the coastal town of. Carelmapu, Municipality of Maullín, Región de Los Lagos, we present potential human well-being indicators associated with the creation and implementation of ECMPO. The analysis shows that biodiversity conservation and the environmental quality of marine-coastal ecosystems promoted by ECMPO are essential components for the human well-being of indigenous communities, whose degradation might influence the capacity of the ecosystems to provide environmental services that sustain life in the locality.  Los Espacios Costeros Marinos para Pueblos Originarios (ECMPOs) se han transformado en el principal mecanismo para el resguardo de los modos de vida de los pueblos indígenas y promoción de la sustentabilidad marinocostera del sur de Chile. El artículo analiza las contribuciones de los ECMPOs al bienestar humano de las comunidades indígenas. A través de una investigación de carácter cualitativo, desarrollada en la localidad de Carelmapu, Comuna de Maullín, Región de los Lagos, se presentan potenciales indicadores de bienestar humano asociados a la creación e implementación del ECMPO. El análisis demuestra que la conservación de la biodiversidad y el resguardo de la calidad ambiental de los ecosistemas marino-costeros promovidos por los ECMPOs son componentes esenciales para el bienestar humano, cuya degradación influiría en la capacidad de los ecosistemas de generar los servicios ambientales que sustentan la vida en la localidad

    The water storage beneath the ground surface is the function of the Rainfall in an area. The underground water is the main source of irrigation and effect the agriculture production. So directly or indirectly the rainfall influences the agriculture. The years with the good rainfall enjoy the high agriculture production as the requirement of water is facilitated.
