    Effects of planting dates on the crude protein and nutrient uptake of two varieties of Millet (Pennisetum typhoides)(Burm. f.) Stapf & Hubbard} in a forest-savanna transition zone of Edo state..

    A field experiment was carried out to determine the effect of planting dates on the nutrient uptake of two varieties of millet in a forest-savanna transition zone of Edo State. The experiment was a 2 x 5 factorial scheme fitted into a randomized complete block design. The two varieties of pearl millet (Gero Bida and Gero Badeggi) and five sowing dates (April, May, June, July and August) constituted the treatments. The treatment combinations were replicated three times. Data were obtained on forage and dry matter yields. The mineral composition and nutrient uptake were determined. The results obtained showed that the forage and dry matter yields, crude protein and nutrient uptake of pearl millet were significantly affected by sowing dates and varieties. The highest and least forage and dry matter yields were obtained from Gero Badeggi sown in April/May. Gero Badeggi sown in April had the highest CP content (26.63%) while Gero Bida sown in July had the least (21.31%). Early sown crops (April/May) had the higher uptake of both the macro-and micro-nutrients than other dates. Gero Badeggi sown in April/May is recommended for feeding ruminants in the forest-savanna transition zone of Edo State

    Role of public entrepreneurship in the progress of agricultural produces in Himalayas

    Villagers living in the Western Himalayan region of Uttarakhand are primarily dependent upon subsistence farming. They follow the practice of growing crops and raising livestock sufficient only for one's own use, without any surplus for trade. With the growing financial needs of the villagers, some portion of their produces is now readily available for marketing. While doing so a farmer gets easily entrapped into the web of the middleman, who provides him anticipatory loans in lieu of the agricultural produces grown by him and a promise to handover those produces at a much lower prices. Under this process farmers are totally debarred from getting a real fair price for their agricultural produces which otherwise they could have fetched in the absence of a middleman. This paper showcases a real experiment done by one of the authors of this paper in which a Farmer’s Producer Organization was established with hundreds of local farmers. Farmer’s Producer Organization is ensuring true monetary value for their agricultural produces by eliminating middleman and ensuring value addition to their produces. This paper critically analyses a case of formation of a Farmer’s Producer Organization in Mukteshwar area of District Nainital, Uttarakhand.     Land use / land cover change detection analysis through geospatial technology in Jhansi district of Bundelkhand region

    The term Land Use relates to the human activity associated with specific of land for example areas under settlement, agriculture, forest, vegetation etc. The cumulative pressure on land for food and wood, the natural balance of soil and environment is affected by deforestation activities which causes serious problem of land degradation. The present study is focused on the changing Land Use / Land Cover practices. “These land use and land cover data are very important for land resource management, planners, and decision makers” (Ndukwe, 1997). In this study has been studied Land use / Land cover change detection of Jhansi district over a period of 12 years. Landsat TM and Landsat ETM + data from U S Geological Survey (1996, 2008) and Survey of India toposheets (2006) have been used for the delineation of classes and district boundary. A study of spatial and temporal changes in Land use / Land cover (LULC) is conducted using Remote Sensing and GIS techniques. ArcGIS 9.3 and ERDAS Imagine 9.2 interface were used for preparing LULC and change detection. The study area is categorized into eight foremost LULC classes viz., built-up land, cropland, fallow land, dense forest and open forest, barren land, sandbar, water bodies. Land use / land cover is very important aspects of land management and development planning of any region.     Sustainable water treatment technologies: a review.

    The sustainability concept is emerged to maintain and strengthen “the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. The adaptive capacities of the world population can be strengthened by eradication of poverty and provision of healthy living conditions which takes the priority. This can be achieved by provision of education and basic infrastructure to the people, worldwide. Availability of high quality drinking water and assurance of hygienic safety is one of the most basic needs of any community, and subsequently a precondition of sustainable development of rural or municipal areas. Decentralized water management should be seriously taken into account in the present scenario of extremely varying climatic changes affecting the potential water resources of the world. Also the energy requirement of centralized water supply schemes is fueling the energy scarcity. Therefore, effective utilization of ground water resources can be the intelligent step the towards achieving sustainable living conditions. Additionally, the water demand in the agricultural industry has become an important concern, considering that more than 70% of freshwater is used for crop irrigation. Desalination is considered a promising solution for water production challenges, but the sustainability of the same needs a detailed study. The treatment of waste water is another necessary criteria to satisfy the basic demands of good quality water for human life and industrial use. In the present review, different methods of water treatment technologies are studied, to assess their contribution towards sustainable development. Water treatment technologies for drinking purpose, waste water purification and desalination were deliberated and the effectiveness of each in attaining sustainable habitat has been portrayed in this review. It was observed that sustainable technologies for water treatment can be a better solution to face the water scarcity challenges in the world as they are self-reliable while compared to other methods.     Features of management agglomeration processes.

    The agglomeration process is a complex socio- economic, spatial phenomenon that requires special approaches to management. Today, agglomerations are transforming the urban environment, creating a diverse set of problems, the solution of which requires the improvement of mechanisms and the creation of new tools for managing the development of agglomerations. The theoretical aspects of agglomeration formation are considered in the article. Attention is paid to the components of the process of modern development of urban agglomerations. Peculiarities of urban agglomerations allocation and basic models of agglomeration development management are considered. Particular attention is paid to the functioning and management of recreational agglomerations. Recreational agglomerations are a special type of agglomeration formations that have special features and require a specific management apparatus. The article allows to expand the idea of the essence of recreational agglomerations, serves as the first basis for further study of its structural and functional patterns of development.     Macroeconomic Indicators as Potential Predictors of Construction Material Prices

    The rate of construction materials is subjected to constant changes. The unexpected price changes affect the carrying-out rates of projects and even challenges the competence to finish the projects. The rapid and vast changes that occur all over the world in construction materials prices impacts the individual construction market value of each country. To avoid this problem, the contractor should have a tool or method that is capable to predict the future material prices. It is essential to predict the material prices variations during the implementation of the project as well as for preparing the tenders. Prediction of material price is an important function for effectively handling projects in terms of more exactly estimating, pursuing and monitoring projects. There are many tools that can help the construction contractors by its ability to accurately predict the future material price. Some of the methods normally used for prediction of materials prices are Artificial Neural Network, Fuzzy Logic, Statistical Method (includes regression analysis, MONTE CARLO method, ANOVA), and Trend Analysis. The type of predictors to these tools can be any factors that tend to have an impact on the prices of material.  Macroeconomic indicators are one such factor that influences the prices of material as it reflects a country’s economic status.     A review on strength characteristics of concrete incorporating sugarcane bagasse ash.

    Sugarcane bagasse ash is an offshoot of sugar factories found after burning of sugarcane bagasse which itself is found after the extraction of sugar from sugarcane. The disposal of this material causes environmental problems surrounding sugar factories. Sugarcane bagasse ash is rich in silica that can play the role of an effective pozzolana which leads to improve pozzolanic reactions resulting in better performing building materials. Light weight concrete can be prepared from low density bagasse ash. Surface reactions are improved due to its high specific surface area. Some percentage of cement is replaced with bagasse ash to determine the fresh and hardened properties of the concrete mix. Compressive strength of the concrete can be improved tremendously on later stages of addition of bagasse ash.     GIS And Management Planning for Sustainable Ecotourism Development: A Case Study of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India

    Background: Ecotourism is a very fast-growing sector worldwide, connecting rural and urban people to more sustainable and alternative means of livelihood. When it comes to India, Rajasthan is well known for its tourist places worldwide because of its forts, palaces, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, etc. Many tourist places in Rajasthan display the diversity of the entire country. Among them, Jodhpur is the most favored tourist destination. Due to cultural variability and traditional values, Jodhpur has been taken as a study area. Purpose: This study aims to understand the geospatial technology and management planning for sustainable ecotourism development in Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, India. Objective: (a) Identify the role of GIS and management in ecotourism's growth and planning. (b) Identifying and mapping some of the significant ecotourism hotspots using Arc GIS software and plotting the current flow of tourism in the study area. Methodology: The methodology section has consists of three crucial parts in which; the first section deals with GIS planning tells us how the location-based information helps in the proper collection of GIS based data and channelization of work. The second section shows the management planning which shows how the proper management activity may lead us to an effective and efficient flow of visitors has been maintained and, lastly, sustainability details about how the GIS planning and management planning may lead us to a sustainable future of tourism called ecotourism. Result: The use of GIS and management planning in tourism-related activities can significantly contribute to employment generation, revenue generation, enhancement of local market and people may understand the local tradition and culture. Effective and efficient use of all resources may lead us towards sustainable future. Conclusion: GIS and management planning can do much better than we think. With the utilization of geospatial technology, the visitors flow can be managed in eco-fragile areas in more effective manner. Tourists mostly recorded in unique places, which is commendable work for the tourism sector's growth. However, the central and state governments' combined efforts have provided a massive boost to the tourism sector by allocating proper fund.     A feasibility study to produce biodiesel from date seed oil by using trans- esterification process.

    There is a need to produce renewable energy resources to reduce the gap between supply and demand. The renewable energy can be generated from various kinds of resources like vegetable oils and animal fats. Biodiesel is one of alternative energy resources that can be an appealing option to solve many of global and environmental issues and crises. Production of biodiesel from several types of vegetable oils has become a promising option. The aim of this technical project is to produce biodiesel from date seed oil. The date seed oil is extracted from the date seeds. The date seed is mixed with methanol in 1:3 ratio in presence of catalyst. The mixture was kept in a hot air oven at 55 -60 degrees centigrade for six hours. The Trans esterification process produced a glycerol and methyl ester which is the biodiesel. The glycerol settled down due to its high-density and the upper layer was biodiesel (methyl ester) due to less density. The mixture was separated using a separating funnel. The biodiesel was purified by recovering methanol by using rotary evaporator. The biodiesel produced from date seed oil is analyzed for the viscosity, density, the calorific value was also obtained, and the Flash and Fire point was performed, determine the functional elements of biodiesel using Gas Chromatography. It was observed by gas chromatography analysis that the produced biodiesel contains nearly 70% of methyl ester which is a main component of biodiesel. The density of produced biodiesel was 0.895 g/cm3.The standard biodiesel density is 0.85 g/cm3. The results were compared with standard biodiesel values. Also, the produced biodiesel has been compared with the quality of standard biodiesel. The project yielded better results. Keywords: biodiesel, date seed oil, flash point, Trans- esterification
