    No full text
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, written by a Chinese-American writer Lisa See, swept the United States as soon as it was published, becoming another masterpiece introducing Chinese elements into Chinese-American literature. In the book, Lisa See gives a detailed description of the fate of Lily and Snow Flower that spans decades. By applying Edward Soja’s theory of “Thirdspace”, different kinds of spaces in the novel and women’s survival crisis and miserable situation are analyzed. We can see that Lisa See places deep sympathy on the fate of women in the male-centered society and tries to make a profound analysis of women’s own weaknesses, thus arousing our concern and reflection on the tragic fate of women at that time

Prediction of Tempe Raw Material Needs for Home Industry Using Tsukamoto Fuzzy Logic Algorithm

    No full text
The home tempeh industry is faced with the challenge of accurately predicting raw material needs. Implementing an effective prediction system can help estimate the amount of tempeh production in the future, so as to avoid stock shortages of raw materials. In addition, when tempeh producers have accurate predictions, they can manage soybean stocks better, especially when there is a stock shortage, so that production is not affected by rising soybean prices. This research aims to develop a Tsukamoto Fuzzy Logic based prediction system to overcome this problem. Research methods include collecting historical production data, designing fuzzy models, and system testing. Interim results show that the developed system is able to increase prediction accuracy by up to 95%, which in turn can reduce production costs and minimize waste of raw materials

A Descriptive Study on Filipino Language Politeness in High School Students’ Interaction

    No full text
Language politeness is vital in Philippine communication, reflecting hierarchical social structures and cultural values. This study explores (1) the politeness strategies students use in school contexts and (2) differences in strategies when interacting with male versus female peers. High school students speaking Binisayang Surigaonon, Cebuano, Butuanon, Bisaya, and Kamayo demonstrate an awareness of Filipino norms, favoring indirect language to show respect, avoid conflict, and maintain harmony. Common markers include “please,” compliments, and formal titles, with minimal gender differences, indicating shared respect-based communication. Educators are encouraged to promote balanced language use by combining direct and indirect approaches, incorporating role-playing and interactive activities to help students adapt politeness strategies across contexts. This adaptability supports students’ intercultural communication skills and aligns with cultural expectations, fostering social and academic growth in multilingual settings

    No full text
The article focuses on the analysis of adolescent\u27s engagement in school life including in the process of education. The conducted theoretical analysis allows the conclusion that school students, who remain school disengaged, are distinguished by low academic achievements, behavioural problems and other learning problems. They have special educational needs learning disorders and they tend to abandon an educational institution early. The method of quantitative research is applied employing the international Student Engagement Instrument, which targets at emotional and cognitive engagement. The conducted data analysis revealed gender-based differences in adolescent\u27s school engagement and particularly evident differences between school students in state and private educational institutions

Enhancing Lung and Breast Cancer Screening with Advanced AI and Image Processing Techniques

    No full text
This research investigates the application of CNNs for diagnostics improvements in lung and breast cancers based on AI image classification approaches. Using the datasets with 15,000 images describing lung cancer and 10,000 images describing cases of breast cancer, the models showed high performance: 90% for lung cancer and 99% for breast cancer classification. The descriptive analysis pointed out different features in imaging, such as dense tissue structure and irregular cell patterns; the models successfully identified these. The findings underlined the vital role that AI could play in assisting radiologists by delivering preliminary analysis, triaging high-risk cases, and leading to early cancer detection. Essential challenges were highlighted: ethical considerations concerning patients\u27 privacy and AI algorithms\u27 transparency. The limitation of the dataset diversity resulted in the conclusion that only broader data can ensure good generalization in various clinical settings. They recommended integrating the AI tool with clinical workflow and also called for training radiologists for effectiveness. Future research directions include real-time imaging and patient data integration for comprehensive diagnostic support and multi-modal approaches that combine imaging with genomics for more precise predictions. This leads to a more personalized cancer diagnosis and treatment plan, thus ultimately improving the results of the patients. This research, therefore, underlines the transformative capabilities of AI and image processing in modernizing cancer screening and diagnostics toward more accurate and efficient healthcare practices

    No full text
The problem of stunting is still a scourge for future generations of the Indonesian nation. Local foods that have good nutritional content are Moringa leaves and eel. In this condition, moringa and eel leaf combination noodle formulation innovation is needed as a functional food. The study\u27s objectives were 1) to determine the subject\u27s acceptance of the moringa and eel leaf noodle innovation and 2) to determine whether there is an effect of giving moringa and eel leaf noodle innovation with stunting prevention. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a One-group pre-test and post-test design. This research was conducted in Parepare City and Sidenreng Rappang district in July - August 2024. The test sample selected was 34 people, with details of 17 people in the treatment group and 17 in the control group. Data analysis to determine acceptability was an organoleptic test, while to determine the relationship between the provision of moringa and eel leaf noodle innovation with stunting prevention was using quasi-experimental through Paired sample t-test mean difference between pre-test and post-test with a significant level of 95% (α = 0.05). The results showed that the average assessment of mothers of toddlers towards noodles containing moringa and eel leaves, especially in the indicators of color and texture, reached the criteria of liking, while aroma and taste obtained criteria quite like. The average body weight of toddlers before giving the noodles was 9.74 kg, and after giving, the average body weight of toddlers increased by 0.51 kg to 10.25 kg. The statistical analysis results showed a p-value = 0.002, which is smaller than the significance level α (0.05), implying a significant effect of the provision of moringa and eel leaf noodle innovation on stunting prevention. The study concludes that moringa and eel leaf noodle formulations affect stunting prevention
