Comparative Study of Epithelial Tumor Development in General Hospitals in Iraq

    No full text
Epithelial tumor is the most common cancer in Iraq.  The disease is frequently diagnosed in individuals who are more than 55 years old, both females and males.  Epithelial tumors are composed of different subtypes of surface epithelial tumors. The tumor is called after the component that predominates; however, the tissue has to establish more than 10% of the whole tumor. To evaluate the clinical and pathological parameters of epithelial tumor among Iraqi patients from 2010 to 2020. This retrospective study analyzed the clinical and pathological parameters of (1330) patients who were diagnosed with epithelial tumors from 2010 to 2020 in Iraq. The studied parameters comprised demographic factors like gender, age, tumor sites, and governorates. The Iraqi patients were highly significant at 55 years of age and showed a greater tendency to present at a later stage.  The most common epithelial tumors in the current study was squamous cell papilloma in the palate site, which showed the highest rate of occurrence that was more widespread among males for age among patients more than 55 years old. The significant differences in the clinical and tumor features of epithelial tumor among the Iraqi patients propose heterogeneity in the primary biology of the tumor, which is increased in Iraq by the problem of delayed diagnosis. The significant ethnic differences in epithelial tumor features recommend the rapid support of the national cancer control plan in Iraq as a main method for the administration of the disease

    No full text
Given the significance of tourism in national identity construction and promotion in current era along with Iran’s need for such an international image promotion, the present study investigated the linguistic texts on the discourse of the Iranian official tourism website to achieve two objectives. Firstly, considering the convoluted interplay among discourse, tourism, and national identity, it investigates how Iranians, in terms of their identity, are represented in the linguistic texts of the discourse used on the Iranian official tourism website. Secondly, it identifies how the discourse either maintains, challenges, or transforms the existing stereotyped perceptions of its identity, embracing its Western represented portrayal in Western media. The current study adopted critical discourse analysis as its framework and used Fairclough’s three-dimensional model as its approach to CDA. The findings of the study demonstrated that Iranians’ authentic and genuine identity, by which they wish to be seen, contests the Western mainstream perceptions of Iranian national identity. Therefore, there is a tendency to transform the prevailing Western stereotypical perceptions of their identity from the producers of the analyzed discourse

    No full text
The present study investigates discursive tactics in political rhetoric employed by President Joe Biden and Trump in their debate in 2024. Van Dijk Framework Analysis (1995) of discursive tactics in political is adopted to study the Discursive Tactics in relation to the Trump-Biden Debate 2024. Findings showed that Biden used a variety of discursive methods, such as reference to presupposed historical circumstances, to attain a high level of persuasiveness. His word choice suggested that he and his government had already embraced an ideological shift and were trying to convince the rest of the country to follow. Moreover, to awaken people’s emotions and desires, Biden engaged with sensitive social issues such as family struggles, young people’s future, social security, economic issues, and so on. The analysis revealed several hidden ideologies adopted by the speaker and his administration, such as new policies for dealing with America’s economic crises, a significant shift in his country’s international strategies, and his support for women’s rights. This study concluded that the speech maintained current power relations, had the essence of a military and strategic success statement, and sent vital military signals with a transitional and future ideological nature

    Power Counter-Strategies in Gender Relations

    No full text
This article examines the potential of Queer Theory as a theoretical framework for gender relations and an alternative approach to mainstream power dynamics. The counter-discursive strategies under study draw upon the seminal critical contributions of Michel Foucault and his theories of power, Eve K. Sedgwick and her theory of the closet, and Judith Butler and her work on gender and performativity.  The study finds that Butler highlights stylization as pervasive in performance. Integrating Sedgwick\u27s queer theory and Foucault’s critical analysis discourse, the study explores how theater challenges conventionality. Sedgwick deepens the understanding of fluid identities, complementing Butler\u27s focus on embodiment. Through interdisciplinary analysis, the study explores the dynamics of power within theatrical representations

    No full text
This research aims to clarify the inaccuracies in A.A. Navis\u27s short fiction. The study utilizes a descriptive qualitative methodology, employing a mimetic approach and critical reading of the short tale "Tamu Yang Datang Di Hari Lebaran" by A.A. Navis to gather data. The narrative is a reflection of reality in Indonesian culture. Using a mimetic technique, the researcher analyzed the short tale "Tamu Yang Datang Di Hari Lebaran" by A.A. Navis and concluded that there are two types of mimesis. First, A.A. Navis\u27 short narrative "Tamu Yang Datang Di Hari Lebaran" highlights several societal aspects, such as (1) the custom of returning home for Eid, (2) the halal bihalal customs, (3) the avarice of the powerful. Second, the social phenomena in A.A. Navis\u27s short novel "Tamu Yang Datang Di Hari Lebaran" are distorted; they include the interpretation of Eid customs and the moral and social standards of officials who take advantage of their positions. Mimetic theory may, therefore, be used to study the short tale

    No full text
Dealing with identity and belonging in multicultural societies means zooming out the entire relevant perspectives to understand how individuals in such contexts foresee themselves and their sense of belonging while struggling to fit into their geographical sphere’s complicated structure. Accordingly, this study navigates the multifaceted and complex notion of multiculturalism by examining the way individuals feel about who they are while being personally triggered by living within the ambivalence of various linguistic mediums, traditions, and lifestyles. Hence, it delves in-depth into the feeling of divergence and the mix of the desire to melt in and the desire to preserve one’s own authentic culture. Integrating quantitative and qualitative insights, it forges a clear vision of identity formation and belonging in pluralistic societies. Besides, relying on studies carried out in sociology and psychology, it underlines the nuanced interplay between individual identity and collective belonging, which unravels how social structures influence personal perceptions of the self and community integration within multicultural environments. Thus, it demonstrates that harmonizing different cultural affiliations to foster inclusive communities encounters complex challenges, promoting a reconsideration of identity frameworks. Ultimately, proving that hybrid identity construction and belonging have implications, especially in terms of social acceptance and collective flourishing. Thus, it concludes that approaching the issue of identity and belonging entails seeing it as not only a physical experience, but also a social and emotional struggle to identify the self

The Side Effects of Electromagnetic Waves on Human Health: A Comprehensive Review

    No full text
Since electromagnetic waves (EMW) have been used in various cases to treat different diseases, they can also protect stress proteins. This usage can prevent heart attacks, strengthen heart rate, reduce DNA damage, improve brain function, and prevent the growth of cancer cells. Additionally, it can cure mental disorders and strengthen the immune system when the dosage is controlled correctly. However, the radiation of electromagnetic waves (REW) can cause severe damage to both wildlife and the environment. In this research, the effects of electromagnetic waves, particularly the impact of radio waves caused by wireless telecommunications, have been studied. Electromagnetic waves pollute the environment and cause severe damage to wildlife and the ecosystem. Antennas installed between residential houses continuously emit waves that negatively affect the environment and human health in the long run. Consequently, environmental pollution caused by radio frequencies and microwaves reduces the quality of life and poses a risk to plants within 100 meters of the source

The Development and Effectiveness of Leadership and Management Program for Enhancing the Nursing Managers Competency: A Quasi-Experimental Pre-Posttest Study

    No full text
Nurse managers are vital in managing their workplace and providing high-quality, safe nursing care. Health organizations require qualified managers with leadership and management knowledge and skills to provide healthy work environments and enhance the outcomes related to staff nurses and patients. It is imperative to offer nursing managers an educational program about leadership and management competencies to ensure their readiness to accomplish their roles. Developing leadership and management competency intervention programs is critical to improving the nurse managers\u27 competency and effectiveness and driving team and organizational performance. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the impact of a leadership and management competency intervention program among front- and second-line nurse managers. A quasi-experimental design with one group. The study involved 48 front-line and second-line nursing leaders from 25 health institutions, including hospitals and primary healthcare facilities. Self-assessment questionnaires on leadership competency and effectiveness, as well as a program satisfaction scale, were used. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 25 and represented in percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Statistical significance among variables was considered at a p-value less than 0.05. The research findings suggest that a leadership and management training program had a notable impact on the development of nurse managers. The difference between the nurses\u27 pre-and post-test scores and managerial competency levels was statistically significant (Z=-4.201, p<0.05). Specifically, the mean score increased from 2.03 in the pre-test to 2.40 in the post-test, indicating a significant improvement. The improvement was particularly pronounced in operational succession planning, delegating roles, managing staff shortages, staff performance, conflict resolution, change process, and emotional intelligence and communication. Notably, competencies related to operational plan, key performance indicators and evidence-based practice were the same. It was observed that a relatively low percentage (33.3%) of the participants had previously undergone formal leadership training, suggesting a significant potential for further growth and improvement in nurse managers. The results of this study underscore the critical need for leadership competency intervention programs in healthcare settings. A program aimed at enhancing head nurses\u27 leadership competencies resulted in increased leadership competence and effectiveness. It is therefore recommended that such programs be developed and implemented to equip head nurses with the necessary leadership skills to fulfil their management roles effectively and to support them in becoming proficient nurse leaders. The urgency and importance of this recommendation cannot be overstated, and adequate resources must be allocated to establish and sustain such programs
