Effects of Heuristic Method on Students’ Performance in Mathematics
This research determines the effects of the Heuristic method on students\u27 performance in Mathematics 7 of a public national high school in the Philippines, school year 2022-2023. The quasi-experimental method used two sets of questionnaires (standardized Attitudes Towards Mathematics Inventory and standardized Algebra Test). The data were treated using frequency, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test of independence, and paired t-test. The study revealed that student’s profiles (age, gender, final grade in Grade 6 Math) do not have significant relationships with their level of mathematical attitudes and academic performance. However, a significant increase in test scores between the pretest and post-test results in a significant difference between the mean gained of both groups. Thus, teaching strategies could encourage students to increase their academic performance. It was concluded that the Heuristic teaching model helps students develop better mathematics learning. The researchers strongly recommend searching for more learning methods that could help elevate the learners\u27 academic performance
Exploring E-Learning Environment of Senior Secondary School Learners: Basis for Enhancing Online Instruction Materials
This proposed study aimed to explore the e-learning environment of Secondary Senior leaner in an online distance learning set-up. More so, the result of this study will become the basis for creating an online instructional framework for the overall academic performance of learners amidst the new normal education. The research design that was used and utilized in this study was sequential exploratory mixed method design as it focused on the exploration of HUMSS Senior High School learners, particularly with their challenges and coping mechanisms in an e-learning environment – which can be considered as an emergent variable. In a 2012 review of mixed methods, Johnson and Christensen demonstrated that they have useful and valid data using a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Cresswell & Clark (2011) stated that sequential study design produces qualitative data from the initial phase to a greater number of the collected samples from the second phase, based on certain participants. The demographic profile of the learner participants showed that the majority were female. This has implied the view that many female learners were enrolling in the Senior Secondary School since the career pathways in this strand are more on education, communication, social work, and psychology

The reliability of the research instruments was estimated using test-retests, while validity was determined by piloting the research instruments. The analysis of data was done using frequencies, percentages, and linear regression analysis at a 0.05 level of significance using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study revealed that there was a statistical relationship between school type and students’ performance in Mathematics with Linear Regression analysis at (r2=0.639; p>0.0423) in the Nyahururu sub-county and (r2=0.693; p>0.0475) in Laikipia North sub-county. These study findings led to the conclusion that there is a need for education stakeholders to pay more attention to factors that seem to influence girls’ performance in Mathematics negatively compared to their male counterparts
Intonational Meanings of Discourse Markers in Spoken Colloquial Arabic
Intonation is the rise and fall of the voice while speaking. It expresses the attitudes and emotions and have a grammatical, discourse, linguistic, psychological and indexical functions. It makes significant and systematic contributions to utterance interpretation. This study sought to investigate the types of meanings and pragmatic functions that the discourse markers (طيب /Tayyib/ O.K, خلاص /xala:S/ (that’s it), إن شاء الله InshaAllah (God willing), ما قَصَّرْت /ma gaSSart/ & ما قَصَّرتِي /ma gaSSarti/ (much appreciated), لا لا /la: la:/ (no…no), يا ستي /ya sitti/ (ma’am), يا سلام /ya sala:m/ (wow), يا عيني /ya ؟eyni/, يا مسهل /ya: msahhil/ (asking God for making things easy), and يا ساتر /ya sa:ter/ (Oh My God) have when each is uttered with different intonation patterns in spoken Colloquial Arabic. Twenty student-translators received training in uttering the discourse markers with different intonations, identifying the meaning and/or purpose conveyed by each intonation, then they performed an elicitation and a judgment/interpretation task in which they were required to pronounce each discourse marker out loud with as variety of intonations and identify the meaning conveyed by each. Data analysis showed that each discourse marker has a variety of meanings and pragmatic functions when uttered with different intonations. The context makes it clear which meaning each intonation implies. Results of the interpretation of meanings that each discourse marker in the sample are reported in detail
