A Study on the Application of CBI Teaching Mode in College English Reading Course for Media Majors: A Case Study of College English Reading Teaching for Students in Sichuan University of Media and Communications
This paper discusses and practices the application of the CBI model to college English reading course systems with media characteristics. The goal of CBI is to assist the core teaching of subject knowledge through language learning. The evaluation method is divided into two parts: language knowledge test and process evaluation. The data were collected and analyzed through in-class tests, unit summary composition, questionnaire survey, and semi-structured interviews. The results show that the content-based teaching model, which focuses on the professional knowledge of media science, integrates the professional knowledge of media science with English language teaching and emphasizes the students\u27 initiative and participation in the teaching process. While improving students\u27 basic English vocabulary, syntax and reading skills, it also significantly improves their professional knowledge. This teaching mode is suitable for the college English teaching and personnel training requirements of each specialty
Multimodal Discourse Analysis of the Poster of the Movie Octagonal
With the development of multimedia and the Internet, meanings are expressed in diverse forms. A movie poster is a multimodal discourse that integrates text, image, color, composition, and other elements, which not only gives the audience visual aesthetic enjoyment but also conveys the theme of the movie in a highly concise and effective way. Based on the theory of Visual Grammar, this study taking the poster of the recent popular movie Octagonal as the research object, conducted a multimodal discourse analysis on the poster in a qualitative way. It studied the expression of the meaning of the poster from three dimensions, namely representational meaning, interactive meaning and compositional meaning, and explored the role of the design of the poster in conveying the theme of the movie
WTO International Trade Dispute Settlement System and Benefits for Indonesia
International trade is one of the essential pillars of the global economy. International trade can improve people\u27s welfare through increased productivity, diversified production, and lower prices of goods and services. In international trade, it is not uncommon for disputes to occur between business actors from different countries. This study examines the international trade dispute settlement system in the World Trade Organization (WTO) and its benefits for Indonesia. This research uses normative legal research methods. The data collection technique used in this research is a literature study. The data analysis technique used in this research is qualitative analysis. The results show that the dispute settlement mechanism through the WTO is part of the WTO adjudication function as a world trade organization. The stages of dispute settlement involve consultations, panel formation, panel procedures, and ratification of panel reports, judicial review, and implementation. For Indonesia, participation in the WTO dispute settlement system brings several benefits, such as increasing legal certainty in international trade, protecting Indonesia\u27s trade interests, and increasing the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the international market

The study aimed to identify “the effect of using the metacognitive learning cycle strategy in developing reading comprehension in the Arabic language subject for ninth-grade students.” The study adopted the experimental method and the quasi-experimental design, where a reading comprehension test was prepared, consisting of (17) items. The study sample consisted of (50) students who were chosen intentionally. The results of the study showed that there was a statistically significant effect on the study sample’s scores in the reading comprehension test according to the teaching method (metacognitive learning course strategy for teaching the Arabic language, regular), and the differences were in favor of those who were exposed to For the strategy of the metacognitive learning course for teaching the Arabic language compared to individuals using the traditional method, the researcher recommends preparing a guide for the Arabic language teacher regarding reading comprehension skills and methods for developing them
Research on Dunhuang Burial Practices: “One and Diverse”: Dunhuang Murals in Gansu as an Example
As an important junction on the ancient Silk Road in China, Dunhuang\u27s historical remains reflect the social order, social life, and social values of that time. To study the funeral customs and concepts in ancient Dunhuang, this paper analyzed the funeral customs by examining Dunhuang murals and a substantial amount of literature searching related essays online. In particular, the text compares and relates the funeral practices of ethnic minorities and the Han Chinese. It is found that the evolution of funeral customs in Dunhuang reflects the characteristics of the concept of all-in-one pluralism, representing a unified approach to diversity and inclusion. In this region of Dunhuang, the funeral customs observed include not only those derived from Taoism and Confucianism, which were the dominant religious traditions among the Han Chinese, but also those derived from Zoroastrianism, which was practiced by the ethnic minorities, as well as from exotic forms of Buddhism. This means that different regions and religions constantly fused and were absorbed into one another in Dunhuang, eventually becoming part of the excellent traditional Chinese culture. This demonstrates that different cultures can exist within a given practice, not only without mutual exclusion but also by displaying different characteristics
Relationship between Serum Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein and Neurogranin Levels and Cognition in Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory neurodegenerative disorder, and cognitive problems occur in the early and late phases of the disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum glial fibrillary acidic protein and neurogranin levels and cognition in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Twenty-three patients and 25 healthy controls were included in the study. Serum glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and neurogranin (NRGN) levels were determined on blood samples from patients and controls. Disease duration and EDSS scores of patients were recorded, and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) scale was used for cognitive assessment. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of serum NRGN and GFAP levels. MOCA scores were lower in the patient group than in the healthy control group. No statistically significant correlation was found between NRGN and GFAP serum levels and MOCA scores. Our study showed that there was no statistically significant association between serum NRGN and GFAP levels and cognition in MS patients. This study is the first to examine serum GFAP and NRGN levels in the context of cognition in MS
Prevalence and Associated Factors of Restless Leg Syndrome
To assess the prevalence and factors associated with restless leg syndrome among the students at Gulf Medical University. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, UAE, upon approval from the Ethics Committee. A self-administered questionnaire was given to gather information from 624 students about Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), covering things like age, gender, and factors associated with it. Among the students (164 boys and 452 girls), we found that 6.2% had restless leg syndrome. The results of the study showed a connection between restless leg syndrome and factors such as magnesium deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, anemia, and sleep disturbance. We did not find a significant link between age and restless leg syndrome in our study, as we focused on people aged 18 and older. In conclusion, we identified the most common factors connected to restless leg syndrome, including low magnesium, low vitamin B12, anemia, and sleep problems. These findings highlight that restless leg syndrome is complex and can affect young adults, with certain nutritional and lifestyle factors playing a role in its occurrence
Lost in Translation? Unpacking Paul Bowles\u27 Approach to Morocco\u27s Literary Gems through a Case Study of For Bread Alone
This study aims to scrutinise the method of translations that Paul Bowles opted for while rendering Moroccan literary texts. The researcher adopted Mouhamed Choukri’s autobiographical novel Al Khubz Al Hafi (2000) and its English translation For Bread Alone (2002) as an example. This research takes Peter Newmark’s communicative and semantic translation as a theoretical background to approach the target text. The research examines the translator\u27s rendering of the source text\u27s form, meaning, and culture and whether they were rendered semantically or communicatively. The researcher read both the source text and its translation, then nominated 24 sentences and their English translation. The selected sentences stand as examples for many more in the novel. After selecting the sentence, the translation method adopted by Bowles is determined. The study’s results suggest that communicative translation was employed more frequently. The analysis reveals that the translator opted for communicative translation to clarify culturally bound terminology or omit certain features linked to the source text that the translator designated as unnecessary to the target reader. The results showed that employing communicative translation led to an awkward translation and mistranslation. The translator resorted to semantic translation to maintain the feature of faithfulness. However, due to cultural and linguistic barriers, the translator could not produce a clear translated message. This research shows that communicative translation cannot reflect the implicit message of the source text, while semantic translation must always be associated with footnotes or glossaries
Developing Intercultural Competence via Virtual Exchange Programs: The Case of Moroccan University Students
This article presents the results of a study conducted at the School of Law and Economics of Casablanca. The study explores the effect of intercultural interventions in developing the learners’ intercultural competence. Two groups of informants representing two different master programs participated in this study. While the control group (29) attended only a traditional classroom course on Intercultural Awareness in Business, the treatment group (37) took the same class and also participated in a virtual exchange program that counted for 15% of their final grades. The study used the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS) to investigate the developmental patterns of the learners’ intercultural competence following the two intercultural interventions. The study sought to investigate how virtual exchange programs affected participants\u27 intercultural competence and sensitivity in comparison to those who had a traditional classroom experience. The results exhibited significantly elevated levels of intercultural sensitivity in the treatment group compared to the control group, indicating that the treatment group exhibited markedly significant levels. The findings provide support for the recommendation to implement virtual exchange programs as a practical method to improve employability skills and global awareness among university students. Consequently, these findings substantiate the recommendation to incorporate virtual exchange programs as an efficacious approach for enhancing employability skills and fostering global awareness within formal academic settings, particularly among university students
The Clinical Instructors\u27 Caring Behavior as Perceived by Nursing Students of Selected Medical Schools in China
This study aimed to investigate nursing students’ perceptions of the clinical instructors’ caring behavior. The researchers tried to examine the role of socio-demographic profile in terms of age, gender, and year level in relation to the respondents’ caring behavior perceptions. This descriptive correlational study used a thirty (30) item questionnaire as the main gathering tool. The said questionnaire was distributed to 72 nursing students who were enrolled at selected medical schools in China for the 2022-2023 academic year. Data results were statistically analysed and interpreted using appropriate statistical tools, including the Percentage-Frequency Distribution Method, the Weighted Mean Formula and the Chi-Square Test. The results showed that the majority of the respondents belonged to the age bracket of 20-25 years (46, 63.9%), most were females (58, 80.6%), and there were more third year (junior) nursing students (29, 40.3%). This suggested that the majority of the nursing students studying at the selected medical schools were females, aged between 20-25 years and there were more junior students compared to sophomores and seniors. Results of the questionnaire revealed that with the average mean score of 2.72 in level 2 (sophomores), 2.96 in level 3 (juniors) and 3.15 in level 4 (seniors), the respondents had rated slightly agree on all the observed indicators of clinical instructors’ caring behavior perceptions. Thus, this depicted that the respondents had positive perceptions of their clinical instructors’ caring behavior. The results of the correlation between the independent and dependent variables pointed out that aside from their year level, which has a p-value of <0.010, no other independent variables were significantly associated with the respondents\u27 perceptions of the caring behavior of their clinical instructors since the p values of their age (0.081) and gender (0.689) did exceed the 0.05 level of significance. Thus, this revealed that only the year level of the students is significantly associated with caring behavior perceptions demonstrated by the clinical instructors, which has a p-value of <0.010. To all clinical instructors, this study suggests that further training of nursing students regarding the significance of caring is needed for them to be able to learn about the essence of caring in nursing and to be well-molded individuals who will give quality nursing care to individuals, families and communities. Thus, the care demonstrated by the clinical instructors will serve as a guide to nursing students in giving quality nursing care to their clients in various settings. One limitation of the present study is that only a few respondents were surveyed, and information regarding the impact of clinical instructors’ caring behavior towards nursing students was limited; hence, for future studies, greater sample size is recommended, and other confounding factors should also be investigated
