    No full text
This article vividly exhibits and distinguishes the distinctions between teaching ESAP and EGAP. It defines the two approaches and shows which teaching approach is the realistic option according to the author\u27s point of view. The author hence proceeds with elucidations on why EGAP is the realistic option and elaborates on the five roles of an ESP teacher. In addition, the author mentions a study that was conducted in Vietnam. The study was based on a systematic literature review of current research on English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) and English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP) teaching approaches, and 15 relevant studies were synthesized. Some of this research showed positive results, while others showed negative results of the approaches. The final results of this study show that ESAP learning was hard in practice. It shows how EGAP is considered a course to equip and prepare students for ESAP courses. It prompts EGAP through group work and suggests it will make students feel less intimidated. The weaker students will learn from the stronger students in an EGAP group working class. It shows one of the relevant study\u27s responses and teachers who think EGAP is significant in teaching before students can enter ESAP courses. Scaffolding is considered a significant role teachers need to ensure learners have reached their needs in both approaches. In the latter part of the article, the author mentions her experience teaching ESAP at Kuwait University, specifically at the College of Engineering. The authors show what difficulties they have gone through and how they managed to teach at this college

    No full text
Cyberattacks\u27 rising volume and sophistication have made conventional security measures, such as firewalls, signature-based intrusion detection systems, and antivirus software, increasingly inadequate. The upsurge of cyber threats has been one of the most pressing predicaments for U.S. organizations in the digital age. With the increased dependence on internet-based forums, cloud computing, and interconnected networks, companies face an advancing number of extreme cyberattacks. The chief objective of this research project is to design and deploy proven machine learning methods to enhance the detection and combating of cyberattacks on U.S. organization networks. This research project retrieved a cyber-attack dataset from Kaggle.com, which had a collection of public datasets of cyber threats. This dataset was curated precisely, offering a realistic representation of cyber-attack scenarios, making it an ideal playground for various analytical tasks. The collection was classified as per the source of the relevant information, such as host-based datasets, network traffic datasets, malware or fraud reports, or a special section for datasets that can be classified according to a specific source. The dataset comprised numerous network traffic attributes such as source and destination IP addresses, ports, protocol, payload size, and attack labels. For this research project, three machine learning algorithms were used, namely: Logistic Regression, XG-Boost and Random Forest. This research project applied performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score for the performance of the classification models were considered. The result illustrated that the random forest model was far superior in accuracy compared to the logistic regression model; particularly, it had excellent accuracy. Through the use of advanced machine learning models, organizations will be in a position to devise more dynamic and intelligent security systems that evolve with the threat landscape. These intelligent systems monitor every kind of anomaly, malicious activity, and threat response with unparalleled effectiveness. No full text
The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), formerly known as the New Moro National Liberation Front, is an Islamic separatist organization based in the southern Philippines. It seeks an independent Islamic state or autonomous region for the Filipino Muslim minority, known as the Moro people, who live primarily in the Philippines’ Mindanao region. The MILF is chiefly located in central Mindanao and is the Philippines’ largest separatist group; it is also considered the strongest group in Mindanao (Macasalong 2014). This study delved into the lived experiences of the Moro rebels turned public servants, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through a qualitative research method. The informants of this study were the ten (10) former or surrendered members of the MNLF or MILF. All informants were subjected to an individual in-depth interview. The findings of this study are described in emergent themes. Seven (7) emergent themes described the positive and negative experiences of the informants as a former Moro rebels to becoming public servant. For the positive experiences, three (3) emergent themes were developed, namely Fulfillment in Serving the Community, Positive Impact on Community Peace, and Societal Recognition and Acceptance. For the negative experiences, four (4) emergent themes were also developed, to wit: Facing Social Judgment and Stigma, Struggling with the New Responsibilities, Adjusting to Bureaucracy and Conflict of Ideals, and Emotional Struggles in Role Transition. Meanwhile, two (2) emergent themes were formulated to explain how the informants address the challenges encountered in the performance of their duties as public servants, namely: Building New Networks and Relationships and Leveraging Past Experiences. Similarly, two (2) emergent themes were formulated to illustrate the strategies employed by the informants to address the problems encountered in the performance of their duties, namely: Seeking Guidance and Support and Emphasizing Communication and Collaboration. Finally, two (2) emergent themes were formulated to described the aspirations of the informants to improve the quality of the performance of their duties as public servants, namely: Enhancing Skills and Education and Improving Community Relations. Based on the emergent themes identified, it is necessary to assist the former Moro rebels in transitioning to civilian life to enhance their overall well-being. A reintegration support program can be implemented to provide vocational training to cultivate a sense of community, resilience, and hope

Impact of Financial and Non-Financial Factors on the Performance of Companies in the Global Health Care Sector

    No full text
This paper evaluates the impact of financial and non-financial factors on the performance of companies in the Global Health Care Sector while also promoting sustainable development goals (SDGs), specifically, SDG 3 (Good health and well-being) and SDG 5(Gender equality). The S&P 700 healthcare index is chosen, and a purposive sampling technique is used to obtain the top 50 companies in the index with 12 years of annual data of the given variables. This research applies a multiple linear regression test on panel data collected utilising the S&P CapitalIQ database. Notably, the research findings indicate that factors including market capitalisation, firm size, capital expenditures, and dividend per share (partially) have a positive and significant relationship, while the cost of goods sold hurts a company\u27s profitability. These outcomes are consistent with the impact that these variables will have on business financial success. However, empirical data analysis results did not support other variables, especially, governance-related variables. The findings show that business profitability is unaffected by capital expenditures as a percentage of sales, leverage levels, liquidity levels, board independence, board size, board tenure, and women\u27s representation. This discrepancy between expected and observed results emphasises how complicated business dynamics are and how many different factors can affect success. Profitability, corporate governance, innovative capacity, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility are only a few of the variables that contribute to the value of healthcare companies. This can help us learn more about ethical and environmentally friendly business methods
