Research on the Current Situation and the Construction of a Diversified Assessment System for College English Teaching in Private Universities Based on Positive Psychology
This study addresses the existing problems in the college English teaching assessment system in private universities and attempts to construct a diversified assessment system suitable for college English teaching in private universities based on the principles of positive psychology. Through questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews, the shortcomings of the existing assessment system were analyzed. It was found that the current assessment methods relied too much on test scores and ignored the learning process and personalized development of students, making it challenging to stimulate students’ intrinsic learning motivation. Based on the research findings, this study proposes a diversified assessment system that integrates the principles of positive psychology, which is designed from three dimensions: evaluation subject, evaluation content and evaluation method, aiming to comprehensively assess students’ language proficiency, stimulate learning motivation, promote self-directed learning, and cultivate positive psychological traits
Translator’s Adaptation and Choice in Hawkes’s Dream of the Red Chamber Translation
This study investigates David Hawkes\u27s English translation of A Dream of Red Mansions from the perspective of Ecological Translation Theory. Focusing on the "Translation Adaptation and Selection" framework, the research explores how translators make adaptive choices in cross-cultural literary translation to achieve optimal communicative effects. The theoretical foundation derives from Hu Gengshen\u27s Ecological Translation Theory, particularly the principles of multi-dimensional adaptation and three-dimensional transformation. The methodology involves a systematic analysis of translation strategies across linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions, examining how these approaches facilitate effective cultural transmission while maintaining literary integrity. Key findings demonstrate that successful literary translation requires comprehensive adaptation to both the source text\u27s ecological environment and the target readers\u27 cultural context. The study reveals that translators must balance fidelity to the original with necessary modifications to ensure accessibility, employing various strategies to mediate between different linguistic systems and cultural frameworks. The research concludes that Ecological Translation Theory provides a valuable paradigm for understanding and guiding literary translation practice. The findings highlight the translator\u27s crucial role as a cultural mediator and the importance of holistic adaptation in achieving effective cross-cultural communication. The study contributes to translation studies by demonstrating the practical application of ecological principles in literary translation and suggests directions for future research in this field
A Comparative study of Thematic Model from the Perspective of Textual Meta-Function: A Case Study of Top Chinese and Foreign Universities’ English Promotional Videos
English promotional videos are crucial tools for image dissemination in universities, playing a key role in shaping institutional branding, attracting potential students, and enhancing social awareness. While numerous studies have explored the linguistic characteristics of university promotional videos from a semiotic perspective, systematic analyses from the perspective of textual meta-function remain relatively scarce. This study, utilizing the UAM Corpus Tool, investigates the thematic structure of English promotional videos from 89 universities in China and abroad through the lens of textual meta-function. By analyzing the thematic model of these videos, the research reveals both similarities and differences in how universities construct their images. Both Chinese and foreign promotional videos emphasize clarity and organization of information, thereby establishing a core role in the discourse meaning construction process: educational and academic disseminators. Additionally, the mode roles in the discourse meaning construction process for Chinese universities’ English promotional videos (UEPVs) are characterized as Contributors and Narrators, whereas foreign UEPVs tend to emphasize the roles of inspirators and guides
The Reality of Producing Content in Sudanese Institutional Media: An Analytical Study at the Sudanese News Agency "SUNA"
The study tackled the process of media content production in the Sudanese News Agency "SUNA", aimed at analyzing such a process and measuring the audience\u27s response to the produced content. This study adopted a descriptive analytical approach by collecting data on the content production process in SUNA, then analyzing it to reveal strengths and weaknesses. The questionnaire, interviews, and content analysis were also used. In fact, the study revealed challenges related to the credibility, objectivity, and the ability of the content to meet the audience\u27s needs and attract their attention. On the other hand, ease of access to the content emerged as a strength. In the light of these results, a series of recommendations were given, including the adoption of quality assurance policies, the development of content for the audience\u27s needs, enhancing the use of multimedia, strengthening the measurement of audience opinions and responses, and cooperation with other media institutions. The study has been able to conclude that there are clear opportunities for the development of the content production process in SUNA to enhance its quality and ability to meet the diverse needs of the audience. The researcher hopes that this study will contribute to the development of media content production in Sudanese institutions, enabling them to provide quality, credible media content that can meet the diverse needs of the audience
Living Apart Together: Study on Migrant Family Resilience
Economic globalization has changed social structures, including family dynamics, with the emergence of the Living Apart Together (LAT) phenomenon, where couples live apart for financial, professional, or personal reasons. This study explores the changing patterns of family relationships influenced by gender roles, communication technology, and social policy. Using a quantitative approach through a survey of 339 LAT families in Indonesia, the results show that most LAT families have moderate resilience, influenced by marital duration, number of family members, and frequency of visits. Although communication technology supports long-distance relationships, physical interaction remains crucial for emotional stability. This study emphasizes that LAT is not just a consequence of migration but also a deliberate household strategy to take advantage of economic opportunities in the global era to improve well-being. The findings enrich the understanding of migration theory, particularly risk and protective factors, as well as the role of gender in migration as part of family strategies. The research highlights the importance of policies that support family adaptation to the challenges of globalization while maintaining a balance between economic mobility and family stability
Some Generalized Inequalities via (s, m) -Convexity and their Applications
The main objective of this study is to formulate novel inequalities of the trapezoidal, mid-point, and Simpson types in connection with an extension of the Bullen-type inequality using the concept of (s,m)-convexity. Additionally, the investigation includes the exploration of particular cases and the application of these derived inequalities to some special means
Myocardial Infarction Following Epinephrine Administration in Anaphylaxis: A Case Report
Anaphylaxis is a severe, acute hypersensitivity reaction that can lead to rapid deterioration and potentially fatal outcomes if untreated. Common symptoms include shortness of breath, angioedema, and hypotension. Despite the high incidence, mortality rates remain low due to the first-line treatment, epinephrine, and its well-established effectiveness in anaphylaxis management. Epinephrine acts as an alpha- and beta-adrenergic agonist, effectively increasing blood pressure and relieving airway obstruction. However, epinephrine can rarely induce cardiovascular events. Here, we present a case of a 55-year-old male with a known history of hypertension, ischemic heart disease, and smoking. Presented to the ED with a severe allergic reaction, he was given epinephrine, which resulted in the development of myocardial infarction. The literature suggests a small but significant risk of cardiotoxicity linked to epinephrine, with intramuscular (IM) administration being preferable over intravenous (IV) due to lower associated risks. While the risk of cardiovascular events exists, timely epinephrine administration is crucial for preventing severe anaphylactic outcomes. Clinicians must be mindful of the adverse effects of epinephrine and carefully assess and monitor the patients, particularly those at risk of cardiovascular events
Hatid-Kalinga: Exploring Nurses’ Interhospital Transport of Critically Ill Patients via Ambulance
Ambulance as a care setting is characterized by its complexity and unpredictability. Almost every day, individuals witness ambulances on the road, rushing to the hospital with lights and sirens to attend to critical situations and save someone\u27s life. However, there is a lack of awareness regarding what happens inside the ambulance. Moreover, it is not often that people know about the experiences and challenges encountered by the individuals inside these vehicles. This study aims to provide additional knowledge and delve into the different experiences of nurses who transport critically ill patients via ambulance. The researchers utilized a qualitative research design, specifically the transcendental phenomenological method. A self-made questionnaire was used to gather the data by conducting one-on-one in-depth interviews with twelve (12) nurses in four (4) different hospitals in Laguna, who had experienced more than one interhospital transport of critically ill patients and had participated in several emergency life trainings such as Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. The transcripts were thematically analyzed using the phenomenological method and NVivo software. The results yielded three (3) major themes, including Preparation and Readiness in Critically ill Patient Transport, Navigating Challenges and Adversities during Patient Transport, and Execution and Coping Strategies in Critically ill Patient Transport. It is revealed that nurses usually encounter different barriers and immediately implement coping strategies like prayers as a source of hope. Hospitals that provide interhospital transport services should develop and implement clear detailed guidelines and protocols to ensure the safety of the patient during the transport process
Metformin: A Common Drug and a Rare Trigger of Hemolytic Reactions
Metformin-induced hemolytic anemia (MIHA) is a rare adverse effect of the drug metformin, which can cause serious morbidity and result in mortality if not recognized promptly. We present the first MIHA case to be reported in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The case revolves around a 50-year-old male, who was newly diagnosed with diabetes and recently initiated on metformin therapy, presenting to the emergency department with progressive hemolytic anemia. After laboratory investigations ruled out various differentials, a joint decision made by the endocrinologist and hematologist to discontinue metformin led to a notable improvement in symptoms and the complete resolution of the patient’s hemolytic anemia
Prevalence and Factors Associated with Needlestick Injuries Among Healthcare Workers in a Tertiary Care Hospital in South India: A Cross-Sectional Study
Needle stick injuries (NSIs) are important occupational hazards for health care workers (HCWs), which increase the risk of blood-borne infections. The incidence of NSI is high in India, yet the surveillance remains suboptimal. The studt aims to determine the proportion of HCWs who sustained NSI in Govt. Medical College, Ernakulam, has been in operation for over one year to identify factors associated with NSI among the study population and to assess preventive and post-exposure practices among HCWs. This cross-sectional study was conducted from May to July 2018 at Govt., including doctors, house surgeons, nurses, nursing students, lab technicians, and last-grade workers working at Govt. medical college, Ernakulam. 349 participants were included in the study with the convenient sampling method and data were collected by structured questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted with SPSS software. Most participants were aged between 21 and 40 (65.5%), and 75.5% of the study population were females. Out of 495 respondents, the majority (28.7%) were nursing students, followed by house surgeons (23.8%), technicians/paramedical students (16.65%), doctors (15.5%), attenders (8.9%) and nurses (6.6%). NSI lifetime prevalence was 51.9%, and NSI over the past year was 38.1%. Of these, 43.6% reported multiple NSIs in the past 1 year. Out of 9697 HCWs, 58 (0.52%; 95% CI, 0.40%-0.66%) tested positive and the incidence rate was 598.5 per 1,000 HCWs. Most NSIs occurred in emergency settings (44.98%) and within wards, particularly in Medicine and Surgery (43.1%). Factors Associated with NSI: Healthcare workers aged 21–40 had the highest NSI incidence (p=0.00). Males were more affected. House surgeons, nursing students, and technicians were at higher risk. NSIs occurred during blood withdrawal, sharps disposal, and fluid tapping. Needle stick injuries is a significant occupational hazard in HCWs. Increased risk of NSI was significantly associated with younger age, male gender, and certain job roles. Before implementing this practice, it is important to acknowledge that there is a gap in availability of PPE (personal protective equipment) and standardized protocols, reporting systems, and proper training
