Dynamic BERT-SVM Hybrid Model for Enhanced Semantic Similarity Evaluation in English Teaching Texts
Accurate semantic similarity evaluation in English teaching texts is essential for enhancing automated feedback systems and personalized learning. This study introduces a Dynamic BERT-SVM Hybrid Model, an innovative framework that combines the deep contextual understanding of BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) with the robust classification capabilities of Support Vector Machines (SVM). The primary objective is to develop a method that effectively addresses the complexities of language semantics in educational materials by leveraging BERT\u27s ability to generate rich, dynamic embeddings and SVM\u27s proficiency in handling high-dimensional data. The model processes English teaching texts through BERT to obtain nuanced semantic representations, which are subsequently classified by an optimized SVM. Extensive experiments were conducted on a diverse dataset encompassing various genres and proficiency levels. The Dynamic BERT-SVM Hybrid Model outperformed baseline models, including pure BERT and traditional machine learning approaches, achieving higher accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-scores. Additionally, the model demonstrated strong generalizability across different text types, highlighting its adaptability for real-world educational applications. This research bridges advanced natural language processing techniques with educational technology, providing a robust tool for precise semantic evaluation. The Dynamic BERT-SVM Hybrid Model sets a new standard for semantic similarity assessment in language education, offering significant contributions to both academic research and practical instructional methodologies
The Effect of Blended Learning on The English Students’ Course Performance
According to Zeqiri and Alserhan (2020), the growing use of blended learning (BL) and online delivery (OL) in higher education is very evident. Combining online content delivery with conventional face-to-face delivery, blended learning offers a beneficial mix of online and conventional approaches. Blended learning is a hopeful substitute for remote learning since studies show it raises student happiness. There is definitely a need for further study on the relationship between satisfaction and general performance in courses offered through blended mode. The inclusion of information technologies in education is crucial for creating a more efficient learning environment for students. The study aimed to determine the effects of blended learning to the English Course performance of the students in a university in China. According to the study, teachers disagreed with the emphasis on development and continuous assistance in blended learning as well as the acceptance of developing technologies. They also preferred conventional lectures over the supposed confidence and drive acquired via blended learning. Notwithstanding these differences, blended learning greatly raised English course performance in some Chinese colleges and universities
The Benefits of Extensive Reading for Moroccan EFL University Students: Insights from a Case Study
This study examines the impact of an extensive reading program (Cycle Licence d’Education) on the vocabulary knowledge, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills of 88 Moroccan English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. Over 14 weeks, with 120-minute sessions weekly, participants engaged with texts from various fields such as history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, education, politics, religion, and science. Using a quantitative research design, pre- and post-assessments were conducted to measure the outcomes of the Extensive Reading Module. Results showed a significant improvement in vocabulary, with two-thirds of the participants (66%) reporting considerable progress in both vocabulary acquisition and its practical application. The program also affected positively reading comprehension, as 93% of students felt confident in their ability to read and understand complex texts. Furthermore, 84% of students acknowledged that the program significantly enhanced their critical thinking abilities after engaging with literary and academic materials. These findings provide valuable insights for EFL/ESL educators and curriculum designers, showing how extensive programs can help build language skills and promote critical engagement with academic and literary texts.
An Analysis of the Use of Symbolism in Al Chemist by Paulo Coelho
This research aims to read the novel closely and analyze Paulo Coelho\u27s Alchemist and its symbols. Using Peirce\u27s semiotic analysis approach, the research will assign the symbols widely accepted meanings and evaluate how these "accepted" meanings affect the same novel. The purpose of this research is to describe the personal legend concept of journeys that are both physical and psychological at the same time. In this novel, symbolism guides the protagonist’s inner journeys, which form a significant part of the novel. While these novels are said to appear inspirational for depressed souls with a profound philosophical and spiritual dilemma, the study of symbols found in these novels gives implications for future research
Co-governance, Co-assistance, and Common Concern: A Discourse-Historical Analysis of Chinese Sturgeon Release News in Mainstream Media
This study employs the Discourse-Historical Approach (DHA) as an analytical framework to examine the content and discursive strategies of Chinese sturgeon release reports in China from 2017 to 2024. It then discusses the historical changes in Chinese sturgeon conservation discourse and its construction methods. The findings reveal that compared to the period from 2017 to 2020, the period from 2021 to 2024 showed increased attention to contents of “policy support” and “habitat and natural reproduction.” At the level of discursive strategies, there were additional terms such as “commercial fishing” and “tracking management,” as well as predicates like “breed” and “hope” that express specific actions and emotional expressions. More authoritative sources were selected, but the views of ordinary people were not adequately considered. Based on this, the study suggests that subsequent related reports should include the elements of “Comprehensive Regulation,” “Diversified Participation,” and “Concern for Chinese Sturgeon.” The research aims to help relevant media more effectively promote China’s efforts to save the endangered Chinese sturgeon and encourage more people to engage in ecological protection work
From Object Movement to Object Shift: The Development of Object-oriented Floating Quantifiers with Full DPs and Pronouns in the History of English
This study investigates the historical development of Object-oriented Floating Quantifiers (OFQs) in English from Old English to Present-day English, focusing on their distribution with full-DP objects and pronouns. Through a comprehensive corpus analysis, we demonstrate that while Old English exhibited multiple word order patterns for OFQs with both types of objects, similar to other Germanic languages, Present-day English shows a restricted distribution where OFQs can only follow object pronouns. The investigation reveals that OFQs with full-DP objects were lost during the Middle English period, coinciding with the change from OV to VO word order. In contrast, OFQs with object pronouns developed a new pattern through the emergence of Object Shift in Late Middle English and Early Modern English. Working within the minimalist framework, we argue that these changes can be explained through a licensing condition requiring an FQ to enter into a Multiple Agree relation with a functional head and its host DP within the same phase domain. This analysis accounts for both the loss of certain OFQ patterns and the emergence of new ones, demonstrating how changes in core syntactic properties can lead to systematic transformations in grammar

Creativity in an AI-Driven World: What Do We Fear?
As educators and policymakers address the wide-ranging challenges of AI integration into educational frameworks, a compelling dichotomy emerges: does AI act as a catalyst for fostering intellectual growth and academic innovation, or does it present a threat to the creative autonomy of students? This study examines the layered relationship between AI, education, and creativity, focusing on how university students in Morocco utilize AI tools across three key domains: writing mechanics (spelling, grammar, and vocabulary), academic planning and outlining, and creative idea generation. Drawing on a mixed-methods approach, data was collected from 130 university students across a range of higher institutions. The findings indicate that, while students frequently use AI for non-creative tasks such as enhancing writing mechanics and structuring their academic work, they rely much less on AI for generating original or creative ideas. This suggests that concerns about AI suppressing creativity may be overstated. Furthermore, a systematic review of literature published between 2021 and 2024 provides a comprehensive analysis of broader apprehensions regarding AI\u27s role in the humanities. The findings offer critical insights into the opportunities and challenges posed by AI, highlighting the need for careful consideration of its ethical implications, as well as the impact on academic freedom and innovation. Ultimately, this study underscores the importance of striking a balance between embracing AI’s transformative potential and safeguarding creative autonomy in the educational sphere
