The use of ICT in junior high school technology education is still being explored. In this study, we administered a questionnaire to junior high school technology teachers to survey and comprehend the state of ICT use in the course titled “Technology of Nurturing Living Things.” In so doing, we intended to elucidate the level of awareness of technology teachers regarding the use of ICT and the actual status of ICT use in the course. The results revealed that tabbed terminals, electronic boards, word processing software, presentation software, data sharing via cloud computing, and digital teaching materials were used for the “Technology of Nurturing Living Things” course. Digital materials were often used to understand existing technologies, and cameras were often used to refine teaching abilities. The ages and knowledge levels of students did not significantly affect their use of ICT. However, the ICT skills and time availability of learners strongly influenced ICT use. The paucity of facilities and equipment was cited in addition to the deficient ICT operating skills of students as problems confronting the advancement of ICT already in use. Moreover, numerous difficulties were mentioned apropos sensors and AI that have not yet been used in courses, for instance, insufficient operating and teaching skills of teachers, lack of teaching materials and practical examples, and absence of relevant training and support.textapplication/pd

Considering the current situation of children’s shelters operated by self-reliance services, this study examined contemporary issues in the home economics education from the field of food, clothing, and housing. Furthermore, it clarified the knowledge and skills that contribute to youth self-reliance. Self-reliant in homes operating as shelters for children was clarified in the revision of the legal system. The children’s shelter stems from the activities of legal social work and was systematically positioned as a type of self-reliant home in the child welfare administrative system. Currently, the establishment of step houses, as mandated by the amendment to the Child Welfare Act, responds to the need for aftercare following departure from residential care. These step houses provide social inclusion support and highlight the importance of housing assistance for individuals protected from familial and spousal violence, in addition to post-residential care housing support. Future challenges include implementing initiatives such as emergency short-term stays for those transitioning out of residential care, which necessitates strengthening support measures for individuals leaving institutional care. As a school-community partnership to support children’s empowerment, a programme was set in place to support independence in terms of dietary habits, planning nutritional guidance, and proposed home economic issues. For the support of young people transitioning from care institutions to independent living, it was highlighted that housing education, understanding the housing requirements for living alone, is crucial, and home economics education should play a role in this area. While Japanese home economics education primarily focuses on families, it was suggested to consider individual-level support for independence, drawing from the American ‘Te e n Guide.’ Particularly, the importance of providing information and activities that contribute to individual independence and career development in aftercare programs was emphasized. It was mentioned that updates to the ‘Teen Guide’ to suit the times, utilization of ICT, and enhancement of financial education are necessary.textapplication/pd

Downside risk in Australian and Japanese stock markets : evidence based on the expectile regression

    Get PDF
The expectile-based Value at Risk (EVaR) has gained popularity as it is more sensitive to the magnitude of extreme losses than the conventional quantile-based VaR (QVaR). This paper applies the expectile regression approach to evaluate the EVaR of stock market indices of Australia and Japan. We use an expectile regression model that considers lagged returns and common risk factors to calculate the EVaR for each stock market and to evaluate the interdependence of downside risk between the two markets. Our findings suggest that both Australia and Japan stock markets are affected by their past development and the international stock markets. Additionally, ASX 200 index has significant impact on Nikkei 225 in terms of downside tail risk, while the impact of Nikkei 225 on ASX is not significant.textapplication/pd
