Archivos del disño experimental y procedimiento, datos conductuales (Excel, SPSS)Frustrative nonreward (FNR) is a reaction associated with the sudden and unexpected loss of significant sources of reinforcement: the death of a loved one, job dismissal, heartbreak, or restrictions associated with health crises, among others. These experiences can profoundly impact physical and mental well-being. Although the scientific study of frustration using animal models provides abundant information on its psychobiological bases, there remains a gap in knowledge regarding (a) the existence of sex differences in the expression and resolution of frustration derived from loss experiences; (b) its components, including reward detection, comparison, aversion, emotion, and recovery; and (c) the underlying brain circuits involved. This presentation will address some of these issues using the frustration paradigm of consummatory successive negative contrast (cSNC) in rats. The task entails providing animals with daily access to a highly reinforcing sucrose solution (typically 32%), which is then abruptly reduced to 2% over four sessions. Consumption by this group is compared with that of a control group that consistently has access to the 2% solution. The cSNC effect refers to the decrease in consumption of the 2% solution in the experimental group (previously exposed to the sweeter 32% solution) to levels below those of the control group (always exposed to the less sweet 2% solution), despite both solutions being identical in magnitude. The presentation will include studies examining sex differences and the role of aversion in the cSNC task, as well as preliminary findings identifying its neural basis.Agencia Española de Investigación. Bacillus and closely related species are amongst the most exploited organisms for the development of novel bioactive formulations in sustainable agriculture. These bacteria produce a wide arsenal of bioactive compounds, such as antimicrobial peptides which are gaining increasing attention. Using an in-silico approach we charac terised the whole genomes of five environmental isolates belonging to the Bacillus subtilis, Peribacillus simplex and Bacillus cereus clade with antimicrobial potential. We showed that the isolates contain genomic sequences for a wide range of secondary metabolites, including lipopeptides surfactin, fengycin, the siderophore bacillibactin or several promising lantipeptides. Ex situ production of antimicrobial substances was confirmed in vitro, detecting synergistic effects between isolates from the same origin. The strains furthermore exhibited a strong capacity of biofilm formation in silico and in vitro, although no synergy occurred. Regarding safety properties, all strains were found to harbour virulence and virulence-associated factors including antibiotic resistance genes. In summary, this study provides valuable insights into the genetic make-up and variations of spore-formers derived from olive orchards, which can be useful for the development of antimicrobial agents in sustainable agriculture

Effectiveness of Pain Neuroscience Education in Reducing Pain, Disability, Kinesiophobia, and Catastrophizing in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Get PDF
Background and objectives: Pain neuroscience education (PNE) is a therapeutic strategy aimed at reconceptualizing pain in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). This systematic review with a meta-analysis (SRMA) aimed to assess the effectiveness of PNE in reducing pain, disability, kinesiophobia, and catastrophizing in patients with CLBP at the end of the intervention, and at 1 and 3 months of follow-up. Materials and Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, an SRMA was conducted after searching in PubMed Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, and PEDro databases from inception up to June 2025. The inclusion criteria agreed with the PICOS tool: population (patients with CLBP), intervention (PNE), comparator (physiotherapy or non-intervention), outcomes (pain, disability, kinesiophobia, and catastrophizing), and study design (randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and pilot RCTs). The PEDro scale was used to assess the methodological quality and risk of bias of the RCTs included. The pooled effect was assessed using the Cohen standardized mean difference (SMD) and its 95% confidence interval (95% CI) in a random-effects model. Results: Fifteen RCTs, including data from 810 patients (43.7 ± 5.2 years; 61% female) with CLBP were included. The mean methodological quality of the RCTs included was good (6.8 ± 1.1 on the PEDro scale). Selection, performance, and detection were the most important biases identified. Our meta-analysis demonstrated, at the end of the intervention, and at 1 and 3 months of follow-up, respectively, that PNE is effective in reducing pain intensity (SMD = −0.65, p = 0.005; SMD = −1.1, p < 0.001; SMD = −1; p < 0.001), disability (SMD = −0.6, p = 0.009; SMD = −0.78, p = 0.002; SMD = −0.84; p = 0.004), and kinesiophobia (SMD = −1.12, p < 0.001; SMD = −1.51, p < 0.001; SMD = −1.57; p = 0.001). In reducing catastrophizing, PNE was largely effective at the end of intervention (SMD = −0.9, p = 0.016) and at 1 month of follow-up (SMD = −1.36, p = 0.007). Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that PNE is an effective therapeutic approach for the management of CLBP, reducing pain, disability, kinesiophobia, and catastrophizing in patients with CLBP

This study explores the role of personal resources, specifically vigor at work (a positive affect generated by the ongoing interactions in the workplace) and weekly physical activity (PA), in the stress-mental health relationship, given the positive relationships found between PA and levels of vigor experienced on health. Thus, we hypothesized that vigor at work would mediate the relationship between job stress and workers’ mental health, whereas weekly PA would moderate the relationship between stress and vigor at work. Five hundred and twenty-seven workers completed self-report scales for stress, weekly PA, vigor at work, and mental health. The results showed that vigor at work was related to better mental health, whereas stress was related to high psychological problems and low vigor at work. The interaction between stress and weekly PA on vigor was significant, indicating a counterproductive effect of weekly PA. Specifically, the negative relationship between stress and vigor at work was greater when doing weekly PA. In this vein, high levels of weekly PA would not have a favorable impact when workers experience high levels of stress, consuming part of vigor at work and reducing the positive effect of vigor at work on mental health by coping with stress. This research was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the project PID2020-116521RB-I00, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, and by a predoctoral fellowship (FPU18/00302)

Pesar, medir y defraudar.

    No full text
