NİTELİKLİ EMEĞİN PLATFORMLAŞMASI: TÜRKİYE’DE DİJİTAL EMEK PLATFORMLARINDAKİ GENÇ MİMARLAR
This thesis aims to examine how the transition of young architects in Turkey from
traditional office-based employment to online digital labour platforms reshapes their
work practices and labour conditions. To capture this transition, the study focuses on
young architects, a professional group that has started to engage with platform-based
work relatively recently in Turkey. While most platform studies focus on low-skilled
gig work, this thesis highlights the dynamics and conditions of skilled labour with an
emphasis on the architects. By situating the research in Turkey, it further contributes
to understanding how young professionals in a developing country experience the
transition to platform-based work. This thesis draws on multiple literatures to provide
conceptual background while answering the research question. In addition to platform
studies, creative labour literature was also examined due to the classification of
architecture as a creative profession. The study shows that platformization, when
viewed in the broader trajectory of capitalism, represents a new phase in the
restructuring of work and labour processes in a way that deepens precariousness for
the conditions of skilled and creative work. To understand the effects of the transition,
21 semi-structured interviews with young architects were conducted in July 2025.
Through the empirical findings based on interviews, this study
aims to show different dimensions of the transformations/transitions of the work
experiences of the young architects in Turkey, namely on the basis of employment
status, informality, freelancing as a mode of working and creative work under
platforms. Overall, the study demonstrates that platformization deepens existing
precarious conditions, commodifies and fragments architectural practice, and

çalışma, Türkiye’de görece yakın zamanda platform temelli çalışmaya yönelmeye
başlayan bir meslek grubu olarak genç mimarlara odaklanmaktadır. Çoğu platform
çalışması düşük vasıflı “gig” işlerine odaklanırken, bu tez nitelikli emeğin, özellikle
de mimarların, dinamiklerini ve koşullarını ön plana çıkarmaktadır. Araştırmayı
Türkiye bağlamına yerleştirerek, gelişmekte olan bir ülkede genç profesyonellerin
platform temelli çalışmaya geçişi nasıl deneyimlediğini anlamaya da katkıda
bulunmaktadır. Bu tez, araştırma sorusunu yanıtlarken kavramsal bir arka plan sunmak
amacıyla birden fazla literatürü incelemektedir. Platform çalışmaları literatürünün
yanı sıra, mimarlığın yaratıcı bir meslek olarak sınıflandırılması nedeniyle yaratıcı
emek literatürü de değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma, platformlaşmanın kapitalizmin daha
geniş seyrinde, nitelikli ve yaratıcı işin koşullarında güvencesizliği derinleştiren bir
şekilde, emek ve çalışma süreçlerinin yeniden yapılandırılmasında yeni bir aşamayı
temsil ettiğini göstermektedir. Geçişin etkilerini anlamak için,
Temmuz 2025’te genç mimarlarla 21 yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme
gerçekleştirilmiştir. Görüşmelere dayanan ampirik bulgular aracılığıyla bu çalışma,
Türkiye’deki genç mimarların iş deneyimlerinde yaşanan dönüşümlerin/geçişlerin
farklı boyutlarını—istihdam statüsü, enformellik, serbest çalışmanın bir çalışma
biçimi olarak benimsenmesi ve platformlar altında yaratıcı emek—ortaya koymayı

A CONTEXTUAL EXAMINATION OF PHYSICAL AND TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE VARIATIONS IN PROFESSIONAL SOCCER
The purpose of this study was to analyse the variations in physical and technical performance parameters of professional soccer players according to match outcome (winning, drawing, or losing) and team quality (top-, middle-, and bottom-ranked). The data were collected from 122 matches of the Turkish Super League during the 2019-2020 season using the semi-automatic multi-camera tracking system. The results revealed that the winning teams performed more high-intensity running activities, particularly when in ball possession, and produced higher number of shots on target. The distance covered in high-intensity running and sprinting when in ball possession, as well as the number of successful crosses, shots on target, corner kicks, and short passes were greater in top-ranked teams. The coaches, performance analysts, and practitioners should consider performance parameters that are influenced by contextual variables before designing training programmes and match evaluations
Advancing concentrated solar thermal technologies in Turkiye: a stakeholder and research network analysis
The Renewable Energy Sector is dynamic and rapidly growing in Turkiye. However,
this experience is unique to emerging renewable energy technologies, and concentrated solar thermal (CST) technologies, which have cross-cutting and solid grounds
in mature technologies, have been moving slowly since 1980s. CST promises global
solutions to Turkiye’s inherent energy problems through industrial policies brought
by new knowledge generation patterns. To design such policies, we examined the
current situation in CST in Turkiye through stakeholder analysis by interviews with
key stakeholders and research network analysis by bibliometric tools as compared
to Spain and Germany. According to the results, there is a robust research infrastructure and qualified cutting-edge research. The university-industry collaboration
needs to be improved by sustainable industrial policies. The country network shows
that Turkiye’s counterparts in EU Project Networks, Spain and Germany, are critical
research nodes for Turkish-EU collaboration
MODERN TÜRK ULUSAL KİMLİĞİNİN İNŞASINDA OSMANLI 'ÖTEKİSİ'NİN ROLÜ (1923–1938): ONTOLOJİK GÜVENLİK(SİZ)LİK PERSPEKTİFİ
This dissertation investigates the role of the Ottoman 'other' in the construction of modern Turkish national identity from 1923 to 1938 from an ontological insecurity perspective. In the last decades of the Ottoman rule, the prevailing Western representations portrayed Turks as inherently incapable of self-rule, barbaric, inferior, and uncivilized, and these portrayals not only justified but also encouraged European interference, colonial ambitions, and political tutelage in the Ottoman domains that resulted with the actual occupation of the Ottoman territories with the Moudros Armistice. The new Republic was also burdened with the Empire‘s inherited international position and economic liabilities. The tragic consequences of the stigmatization along with the experiences of invasion and defeat instilled a deep ontological insecurity in the Republican elite that shaped the context within which they sought to challenge and overturn the orientalist depiction of Turks as a people unfit for modern statehood and civilization. Thus, in order to survive in a highly precarious international system of states and be an equal, autonomous and sovereign member of European state system, the new Turkish state had to be modern, secular, civilized and unified nation-state in contrast to the 'sick man of Europe'. In that respect, the aspects of the Ottoman past that clashed with this new identity, such as absolutism, dynastic rule, multi-ethnic pluralism, religious bigotry, its subjugation by the West and backwardness, were selectively otherized in the construction of the new Turkish national identity. At the same time, certain elements of the Ottoman past had been selectively appropriated and reinterpreted as integral components of a continuous Turkish nation and historical legacy. Hence, the 'Ottoman past' became a reference point in legitimizing and constructing the new Turkish national identity. By critically engaging with the socio-historical conditions that gave rise to these policies and processes, this study adds an international dimension to the existing scholarship on early Republican Turkey from an ontological insecurity perspective.Bu doktora tezi, 1923–1938 erken Cumhuriyet döneminde Türk ulusal kimliğinin oluşumunu ontolojik güvensizlik çerçevesinde ele almaktadır. Bu tez, Cumhuriyet elitinin Osmanlı geçmişini nasıl seçici bir şekilde Osmanlı geçmişinin Cumhuriyet kimliğine ters düşen belli özelliklerine göre ötekileştirme sürecine tabi tuttuğunu irdelemektedir. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun son dönemlerinde Batı’da hâkim olan algıya göre Türkler barbar, medeniyetsiz, geri kalmış ve kendi kendini yönetmekten aciz bir millet olarak tasvir edilmiştir ve bu söylemler ile Avrupalı devletlerin Osmanlı’ya müdahaleleri, sömürgeci emelleri ve siyasî müdahalelerini meşrulaştırmak için kullanılmıştır. O dönemin konjonktürüne ve Kemalist elitlerin tecrübelerine göre, uluslararası devletler sisteminde varlığını sürdürebilmek ve Avrupa devletler sistemi içinde eşit bir üye olabilmek için yeni Türk devleti, modern, laik, medenî, yekpare ve egemen bir ulus-devlet olmak zorundaydı. Constructions in dynamic geometry environments: How valid are they?
The purposes of this study are to investigate to what extent prospective middle school mathematics teachers can offer valid solutions for geometric construction problems in dynamic geometry environments, how we can characterise whether their solutions are valid or invalid, and the nature of their solutions. Data were collected from prospective middle school mathematics teachers through four geometric construction activities. By considering the data, the scope of the drag test and compatibility criterion offered in the literature, and the extra cases regarding the drag test, a three-phase diagram was proposed to characterise the validity of solutions to geometric construction problems in dynamic geometry environments. In the evaluation based on the diagram, it was found that the group could offer at least one valid solution, leading them to geometric construction in each activity. Some solutions were coded as invalid based on the diagram, although the group declared them valid
Layer-by-Layer Coated Alginate Hydrogels with Antibacterial Activity Based on Bacteriophage and Curcumin Combination
There is a need to develop alternative antibacterial agents for antibacterial applications due to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Bacteriophages are natural predators of bacteria and have gained interest as an alternative to antibiotics. The co-delivery of antibacterial agents is an attractive strategy to achieve enhanced antibacterial activity. This study investigated the use of layer-by-layer (LbL) technology to functionalize alginate hydrogels to prepare a therapeutic platform, capable of co-delivering Salmonella bacteriophage MET P1-001 and curcumin (CUR). First, LbL films consisting of alginate and poly[2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl methacrylate]-block-poly[3-dimethyl(methacryloyloxyethyl)ammonium propanesulfonate] (PDPA-b-βPDMA) micelles were prepared. Multilayers exhibited temperature-responsive behavior through upper critical solution temperature (UCST)-type phase behavior of polyzwitterionic βPDMA coronal chains. LbL assembly temperature affected the film thickness, and the post-assembly temperature was critical to the stability of multilayers against pH changes. Second, these multilayers were deposited on alginate hydrogels containing Salmonella bacteriophages, but differently, PDPA-b-βPDMA micelles were loaded with CUR. CUR release from hydrogels was greater at pH 5.0 than at pH 7.0. Decreasing the release temperature did not make a considerable effect on the amount of CUR release at pH 7.0 but reduced its release at pH 5.0. The antibacterial activity against Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Enteritidis (Salmonella Enteritidis) was mainly due to the release of bacteriophages from the hydrogel and was greater at pH 5.0 than at pH 7.0. Bacteriophages and CUR acted in a combinatorial manner at pH 7.0, while it was not statistically significant at pH 5.0. Overall, this study has generated fundamental knowledge on the preparation of alginate hydrogels co-delivering Salmonella bacteriophage MET P1-001 and CUR using LbL technology, and the enhancement of antibacterial efficacy through co-delivery of these therapeutics

Çin'in Kuşak ve Yol Projesi'nin Avrupa İnovasyon Ekosistemi Üzerindeki Etkileri
This thesis examines the impact of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on the European innovation ecosystem, utilising firm-level data from the Community Innovation Survey of 12 EU countries. The analyses investigate the repercussions of the BRI on the R&D-innovation-productivity nexus by following the well-known CDM framework and a novel dataset constructed to proxy the effects of the BRI at country-sector levels. The results indicate that the BRI has a significant impact on the innovative decisions and activities of firms, with particular differentiation noted in their market orientation. The analyses are developed using spatial econometrics techniques, indicating that firms are heavily affected by the impact of the BRI on proximate firms, whether the proximity is defined geographically or economically. These findings suggest that the EU should devise competition policies that focus on the market orientation of firms and not assume that the impact of external shocks is static.Bu tez, Çin'in Kuşak ve Yol Girişimi'nin (KYG) Avrupa inovasyon ekosistemi üzerindeki etkilerini, 12 AB üyesi ülkenin Community Innovation Survey'den elde edilen firma düzeyi verilerini kullanarak araştırmaktadır. Analizler KYG'nin etkilerini AR-GE-inovasyon-verimlilik arasındaki ilişkileri, CDM modeli çerçevesinde ve bu tez için oluşturulmuş KYG'nin etkilerini ülke-sektör düzeyinde ölçen yeni bir veri setini kullanarak araştırmaktadır. Sonuçlar, KYG'nin firmaların inovasyona ilişkin kararlarını ve aktivitelerini etkilediğini ve firmaların en yüksek ciro elde ettiği pazarların bu etkileşimde farklılıklar yarattığı görülmektedir. Mekansal ekonometri teknikleri ile geliştirilen analizler, firmaların coğrafi ya da ekonomik olarak kendilerini yakın firmalardan güçlü bir şekilde etkilendiklerini göstermektedir. Towards an Embodied Biohybrid Robotic Platform for Interaction with Honeybees
Robotic interaction with insects in a controlled yet unobtrusive manner is essential for advancing research in biology and biohybrid systems. Micro-robots offer a unique opportunity for such interaction due to their small size, adaptability, and potential for integration into complex biological environments. In this paper, we present a biohybrid robotic platform designed to detect and follow the position of a queen bee projected onto a screen using real video recordings from our observation hives. The robot can identify the location of queen and execute movement strategies to maintain specific spatial configurations with her, emulating behaviours of the queen's retinue bees. This queen-following capability establishes a controlled experimental framework for studying future insect-robot interactions and sets the stage for embodied robotic agents that may eventually operate inside honeybee colonies
ZERO TRUST ARCHITECTURE IN ENTERPRISE NETWORKS WITH SOCIO-TECHNICAL PERSPECTIVE
In enterprise organizations, network architecture is a key component. While traditional network architecture based on perimeters, it sees trusted inside of the castle and make it vulnerable to insider threats. Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) is created for this need. It bases the principle of “never trust, always verify,” mitigates the vulnerabilities with strict identity verification, continuous monitoring, least privilege access, multi factor authentication.
This study approaches enterprise network architecture as socio-technical system, focusing on both social and technical dimensions. Social dimensions as human behavior, organizational policies and culture; and technical dimensions as firewalls, VPN solutions. It is not possible to implement Zero Trust approaches in a technical way, since it is a complex socio-technical system.
In a real world Zero Trust implementation tested in this study to see whether experimental results also prove the zero trust dimensions effective or not. Results show that ZTA significantly reduces the attack surface and improves an enterprise network’s security. The study concludes that combining technical solutions with social solutions, it makes more effective and sustainable cyber secure environment.M.S. - Master Of Science Without Thesi
