Various Types of Basti Karma and their Therapeutic Indications: An Ayurveda Review
The various detoxifying techniques recommended by Ayurveda are Vaman, Virechan, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshana. These all comes under the heading of Panchkarma procedure. Amongst them the Basti Karma is one of the important detoxification measures in which drug is transported through the anal route in the form of medicinal oil or herbal concoction. Enemas are frequently administered to clean the lower bowel in modern medicine as a last option for treating constipation when all other treatments have failed. Instead of this, Basti Karma, which is mentioned in classical Ayurvedic texts, has a wider therapeutic effect on almost all body tissues and has curative, preventive, health-promoting and rejuvenative effects. There are different types of Basti Karma proposed by Ayurveda philosopher which utilizes for various therapeutic purposes. Present article described various types of Basti Karma and their therapeutic indications along with general overview of this ancient technique
Ayurveda View on Disease Progression w.s.r. to Concept of Shatkriyakala: A Review
Ayurveda aims to keep healthy people healthy and helps in the treatment of sick people's diseases. Ayurveda recommended a variety of treatments for balancing Dosha, Dhatu and Mala. Ayurveda portrayed various modalities of sickness determination and Kriyakala is one such methodology which assists or determines different phases of disease progression. The Kriyakala idea encourages specific treatment based on the stage of disease progression. The suitable measures can be taken to address the equilibriums of Doshas based on the specific phases of illness. Ayurveda looked into the idea of Shatkriyakala as a "six stages of disease progression" that can be used to evaluate the disease's pathogenesis in different stages. These six stages are Sanchaya, Prakopa, Prasara, Sthanasamshraya, Vyaktavastha and Bhedavastha. An Ayurveda Review on Shothahara Mahakashaya Dravya and their Therapeutic Properties
Shothahara Mahakashaya refers to a collection of medicinal ingredients that exhibit therapeutic effects against Shotha Roga. Shotha is a condition characterized by swelling anywhere in the body, which can be equated with the term oedema in modern medicine. Acharya Charak has delineated Shothahara Mahakashaya as one of the group among the fifty Mahakashaya Ganas. The components comprising Shothahara Mahakashaya are Patala, Bilva, Shyonaka, Agnimantha, Kashmariya, Brihati, Shalaparni, Kantakari, Prishaniparni and Goksura. These plants, offer potent effect in its own right, while acts synergistically when combined to produce enhanced therapeutic outcomes. They share common characteristics such as having a Katu, Tikta and Kashaya Rasa, Ushna Virya, Katu Vipaka, Ruksha-Laghu Guna and Tridoshaghna properties. Panchakarma is a method which purifies body by eliminating unwanted waste via various approaches. The term "Panchakarma" itself derives from the combination of "Pancha" and "Karma", which means "five" and "procedures" respectively. It encompasses wide range of approaches which offers preventive, curative and promotive advantages. Panchakarma serves as a crucial detoxification method essential for maintaining overall well-being and preventing ailments. Panchakarma entails five activities; vomiting, purgation, Niruham, Anuvaasan, and Nasyam. These activities help to clean the body, enhance natural healing processes and eliminate toxins. Panchakarma accelerates metabolism, bolstering strength, reduces weight, clearing blocked channels, rejuvenating tissues, boosts immunity, alleviating stress and improves digestion, etc. Panchakarma Dravya offers significant contribution towards the biological effects of Shodhna Therapy
Ayurveda Description of Grahani Roga in Children and its Management: A Literary Review
Grahani Roga a gastrointestinal tract disease, is influenced by various factors, such as Aparipakvadhathu, Asampurnabalam and Shleshmadhathuprayam, etc. Aniyatha Agni means variable digestive fire also play vital role in this regards. Immature tissue, incomplete strength and imbalance in bodily humors, etc. considered responsible for the disturbed functioning of digestive fire in children. Various etiological factors can impair Agni, particularly in children who frequently consume bakery items like biscuits, chocolates, ice-cream and junk foods, etc. Atisara, a condition related to gastroenteritis, may contribute to Grahani Roga and should be considered during the treatment plan. Abdominal pain, bloating and abdominal spasm, etc. are major features of Grahani Roga. Treatment includes a combination of medications, nutrition adjustments and dietary changes, etc. Herbal combinations are also beneficial due to their properties in improving digestion and removing blockages
Ayurveda Perspectives on Kapha Vyadhi and Role of Ayurveda Drugs in the Management of Kapha Vyadhi
In classical Ayurvedic texts, Kaphaja rogas mentioned specifically along with their causes, symptoms and treatment modalities, etc. Tandra, Guru Gatrata, Alasya, Mukha Sarava, Balasaka, Dhamani Pratichaya, Ati Sthaulya, Udarda and Shvetaavabhasata, etc. are major pathological manifestations of Kaphaja rogas. Shalakya Tantra is department of Ayurveda which deals with treatment of diseases located above the neck area. This branch works around diagnosis and treatment of the diseases of head, eyes, ears, nose and throat. Shalakya Tantra associated with Urdhwangchikitsa that offer treatment of Indriyas. This branch helps to cure diseases of eye and in this regards many herbs and classical Ayurveda formulations were advises for curing Netrarogas. The causative factors of eye diseases (Netraroganidanas) need to be avoided for preventing diseases of eye. Therefore the knowledge of causative factors is very important so one can avoid them. Vataprakopa, Swapanaviparyaya, Diva swapn, Kaphaprakopa and Ratrijagarana, etc. are major causes of Netrarogas. Triphala Kashaya, Triphala churna, Amla and Shatavari, etc. are natural drugs which offers health benefits in eye problems. Role of Viruddha Ahara towards Skin and Allergic Disorders; an Ayurveda Review
Viruddha Ahara is Ayurveda view of food incompatibility; Viruddha Ahara referred several types of food incompatibility including food–food interactions and food processing interactions, etc. Diet and its combinations that affects metabolism of tissue, inhibits process of tissue formation, alter physiological process of body and having opposite property, etc. are termed as Viruddha Ahara or incompatible food.
