In the Philippines, kidney disease is acknowledged as a significant public health issue as it causes considerable suffering, negatively impacts health, and possibly death to people inflicted it, this is despite the available programs and efforts to combat these diseases. This study evaluated and analyzed six decades of data (1960-2019) from Philippine Health Statistics to provide precise and valid information regarding its mortality trend and to assess the country’s improvement in effectively dealing with these diseases. Factors such as gender, geographical location, and lifestyle were found to affect kidney disease chances. We also found out that there are age and gender disparities in the vulnerability of the people of the Philippines to kidney diseases, with elderly ages 70 and up and males recorded to be at greater risk of dying due to it. Differences in the regional outcome were also observed with Region XII having the highest mortality rate, and Region ARMM having the lowest. Urgent need to expand treatment advancements and programs for the population is needed to decrease the burden of kidney disease in the country in the following years

    Get PDF
It was noted that the right to health care is a key topic of discussion around the world, and ensuring the realization of this right and the opportunity to access the necessary medical care is in the spotlight. The realization of the right to health care in each country directly depends on the national health policy. The analysis is focused on assessing the effectiveness of health care systems of states according to several models. The data for this study were obtained from the existing WHO database, which provides accumulated data for groups of countries. Thus, it was possible to compare different countries, whose state health statistics may have their own characteristics. For data processing, an input-oriented analysis model of a dynamic network data shell was used. The analysis combines the use of traditional and non-traditional methods for measuring health performance. The analysis shows that there are no pure health systems financing models, most states use mixed funding models. The only way to reduce dependence on direct payments is for the government to encourage the use of a prepayment and risk pooling approach

The success of asthma self-management is determined by three essential factors: healthcare professionals, patients, and drugs. Regarding patient factors, the level of knowledge plays a role and leads to a positive attitude and behavior to prevent future attack relapse. This quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a mobile phone app-assisted educational intervention in improving the quality of knowledge, attitude, and behavior among patients with asthma. The study included 140 participants who were divided into two groups, i.e., control and treatment. The treatment group received and installed the app into their smartphone and then was asked to study all the educational materials in the app for four weeks. A test was carried out before and after the intervention period to examine the effectiveness of the intervention. This study used the statistical program IBM® SPSS® Version 22.0 to analyze data, and a parametric statistical test was utilized to test the statistical hypothesis in this investigation. The study found improvement, as many as 87.14% for knowledge, 77.14% for attitude, and 67.15% for behavior, with a p-value each of 0.01. It could be concluded that digital-based patient education using a mobile app improves the patients' knowledge, attitude, and behavior

Components of basic feeding rule for infants aged 6-24 months: a scoping review

    Get PDF
Introducing complementary foods at six months helps supplement nutrients and address potential eating challenges in infants. Childhood eating difficulties can contribute to growth issues. This scoping review aimed to identify the components of feeding rules for infants aged 6-24 months. A systematic search of three electronic databases yielded 5,174 abstracts, with 18 complete articles assessed for eligibility. After eliminating 8 articles, 10 met the criteria. The feeding rules comprise three main components: schedule, environment, and procedure. Adhering to these basic rules can enhance a child's growth rate and reduce the risk of failure to thrive. Responsive feeding is closely linked to these rules, categorized based on feeding schedule, procedures, and environment. Hence, it is crucial for healthcare professionals to provide counseling on the fundamental principles of complementary feeding

A cross-sectional study was performed to describe self-medication practices of customers at kiosks and minimarkets in District X, Indonesia, during COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. A sample of 98 customers from 67 kiosks, and 100 customers from 52 minimarkets were interviewed using a validated questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to summarise the findings. Most drugs purchased at kiosks and minimarkets were general sales drugs, i.e., analgesic-antipyretic (64.3% versus 46.0%); however, prescription drug sales were reported (3.1% vs 3.0%, respectively). Kiosk and minimarket customers purchased medications mainly based on the recommendations of non-health workers (69.4% vs. 34.0%, respectively), or electronic media (36.7% vs. 43.0%, respectively). The reasons to choose kiosks or minimarkets included accessibility, personal preferences, and service quality. Most kiosk/minimarket customers had knowledge on the drug brand names and indications, but only some knew the composition (8.16% vs. 29.0%, respectively) or side effects (9.18% vs. 35.0%, respectively). These findings indicated limited quality assurance on self-medication practices at non-pharmacy outlets

    Get PDF
The Thai fishing industry has been under close scrutiny for conditions faced by fishing boat workers, yet data are scarce with regards to occupational safety and health (OSH) among its workers. The objectives of this study are to describe: i) water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) conditions, and; ii) OSH conditions faced by migrant fishing boat workers in Thailand. We conducted a mixed-methods study with a quantitative survey in 200 migrant fishing boat workers and focus group discussions with 11 workers and 6 stakeholders in southern Thailand. We analyzed quantitative and qualitative data using descriptive statistics and content analysis, respectively. Nearly all participants (95.0%) reported that drinking water on board was stored in a sealed container, but only 5.5% of participants reported that there was latrine on board for defecation. Nearly all participants reported proper storage of objects on board, although findings on maintenance varied. Use of personal protective equipment was scarce as equipments obstruct the workers’ movement. The findings highlighted areas where improvements in WASH and OSH are needed. However, caveats regarding potential information bias and lack of generalizability should be considered in the interpretation of the study findings

    Get PDF
Bioconversion of black soldier fly (BSF) larvae is a method of processing organic waste that is environmentally friendly and has no impact on public health. This research aims to analyze the influence of the type of waste as a feed formulation on the effectiveness of organic waste processing with bioconversion of black soldier fly larvae. The research was conducted in Tubunan Village, Jepara Regency, the district with the second lowest waste processing in Central Java on 108 families. The initial procedure for this experimental research was carried out by sorting the types of waste (community waste, fish slaughter waste, and a mixture of both). Each type of waste is then given 1.5 grams of larvae/kg of waste. The larvae will be harvested after 20 days and weighed to record data on the increase in biomass and waste left behind. The collected data was then analyzed using SPSS through ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis tests. The results showed that the nutritional formulation of the feed had a significant effect on total larval biomass (p=0.0005) but had no significant effect on the waste reduction index (p=0.651) and feed conversion efficiency (p=0.180). In this study, processing organic waste with bioconversion of black soldier fly larvae reduced waste piles significantly (p=0.008). Thus, bioconversion waste processing using BSF can solve the waste problem at the research location. These findings can be considered in planning effective and efficient waste processing

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) are still challenges worldwide. Improvement in quality of life (QoL) is crucial for HIV-infected people. The QoL of HIV-infected patients has been improved by the use of multilevel interventions in various circumstances. This study evaluates the evidence for interventions that target the quality of life of persons with HIV. A systematic review was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. Science Direct, the Cochrane Library database, and Pubmed were also searched. Three independent reviewers extracted the data. Searches were conducted for articles published from 2013 to 2023. Searching procedures and data abstraction techniques were standardized. The 27 research examined the effects of interventions on HIVinfected people's quality of life. China is the most frequently mentioned country in the 27 studies, appearing as the setting in 8 (29.6%). Following South Africa (14.8%), New York (11.11%) and Kenya (7.4%) were the next most often mentioned countries. For analysis purposes, the interventions used in the 27 reviewed studies were classified into three main categories: individual intervention, family-community intervention, and health service intervention. Significant intervention innovations in quality-of-life research combining several interventions, including individual, family, community, and health system intervention, show the most promising result

The synthesis of nanosilver and carbamat to control of Anopheles in malaria endemic areas

    Get PDF
Malaria is a national and global problem that really needs attention and Indonesia is the second highest country with the highest number of cases 304,607 in 2021. The use of insecticides at inappropriate doses causes resistance to targets. The aim of this study was to analyze the toxicity of silver nanoparticles to adult Anopheles mosquitoes in malaria endemic areas as well as to determine the lethal concentration (LC50) and to project effectiveness in the lifetime. This research is experimental and uses a post-treatment with control design which was carried out in 4 stages from 2019-2022, which includes laboratory scale tests (2019), field laboratory scale tests (2020), ecological endemic area scale tests (2021), and lifetime tests (2022). Calculation of LC50 in nanosilver toxicity 5965 mg/l and Calculation of life time projections produces the formula Y=(-) 0.012Ln(X)+0.6933. Absorption of silver nanoparticles into the bodies of Anopheles sp. occurs through the spiracles and attacks the Ache enzyme in the central nervous system thereby stopping the working system of the mosquito which will then die. Nanosilver is a very effective herbal insecticide used as an effort to control malaria cases in endemic areas with the right dose and method. For life time, a dose of 1500 mg/l nanosilver effectively kills 74% of adult Anopheles sp mosquitoes on day 32 and it is projected that on 1 year the efficacy of nanomaterials still has an efficacy of 62%)

    Get PDF
After the pandemic, the Ministry of Education proposed the teaching of virtual classes, a measure that generated adaptation processes. The present research aimed to determine the relationship between tolerance to frustration and adaptation to virtual classes due to the pandemic in adolescents from a public and private university. A study was carried Prospective cross-sectional correlational study, the sample made up of 86 students from a private and public university, the survey and instrument technique were used, a Likert scale questionnaire applied via Google Docs, applied to students who have developed face-to-face classes and later they have held virtual classes. The tolerance to frustration in adolescents of the Private University of Huancayo Franklin Roosevelt and the National University of Huancavelica is medium and the adaptation to virtual classes is in the process of adaptation. There is a direct average correlation between tolerance to frustration and adaptation to virtual classes in adolescents from a public and private university in a pandemic; with a Spearman's Rho value of 0.634 and a p. bilateral significance value of 0.000. The Peruvian educational system was not yet prepared for virtual education, finding many deficiencies. We recommend carrying out multicenter studies, which allow the outcomes of this change in educational modality to be compared in various regions
