    Get PDF
Understanding reproductive health is an important issue for students with special needs as their specificity does not prevent the acquisition and comprehension including efforts to prevent sexual harassment. Descriptive cross-sectional design was used. The samples selected were 86 students in Indonesia which were 29 males and 57 females, consisting of 36% deaf (n=31), 50% mentally retarded (n=43), and 13.9% autistic (n=12). Data were collected with a questionnaire of 34 items which measured the understanding of reproductive processes, functions, and systems, as well as sexually transmitted diseases, attitudes about reproductive health, media and social influence on sexual activity and ability to communicate. The data were analyzed descriptively and different multivariate tests were carried out based on the type of student's impairment. Consequently, their understanding of reproductive health was discovered to be low, especially in terms of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), attitudes, and communication skills. The results also showed that there was no significant difference in the understanding of reproductive health in students with special needs concerning the type of disability suffered. These can be used by teachers, counselors, and the subjects plus their parents as initial information on developing an understanding of reproductive health in the future

    Get PDF
Adolescence is an important period for developing social and emotional habits that are important for mental well-being. This research aimed to know the effectiveness of intervention programs to improve emotional regulation in adolescents with mental disorders. Preparation using the PICO approach, determination of inclusion and exclusion criteria, and a literature review of scientific English articles published between 2016 and 2023 were conducted. Data were obtained from the SCOPUS, Science Direct, SpringerLink, ProQuest, and SAGE databases. Assessment of the title, abstract, and full text of the article with the keywords "Adolescent," "Child," "Teenager," "Emotion regulation," "Emotion exposure," "Intervention," "Mental Disorders," "Randomised Control Trial." The systematic review report was reviewed critically to ensure that all PRISMA steps and items were included. Nine articles met the inclusion criteria. The choice of programs and methods of intervention may vary depending on the specific mental disorders and individual needs of adolescents. Nursing interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, group therapy, support groups, and school-based programs, are widely used to manage and treat mental health disorders with the aim of improving well-being and recovery. The effectiveness of intervention programs varies, and selection should consider adolescent needs, resources, and cultural contexts. Consulting mental health professionals or organizations is recommended

    Get PDF
In an era marked by globalization and heightened competition, this study delves into how sociodemographic factors such as age, gender, education, and work experience influence leadership styles, crucial for achieving organizational objectives. Employing the leadership behaviour questionnaire on 336 predominantly educated, male professionals of Indian descent in Malaysia's corporate sector, the research evaluates task and relationship orientations in leadership. The findings highlight a significant prevalence of both task-oriented and relationship-oriented leadership behaviours. Intriguingly, there is a positive correlation between higher education, age, work experience, and relationship orientation, while education and salary predominantly affect task-oriented leadership. A notable discovery is the positive interplay between task and relationship orientations, suggesting their complementary nature. The study concludes that a balanced, multifaceted leadership approach, fostering both efficiency and employee welfare, is vital. It underscores the impact of educational and professional growth on leadership skills and the necessity of diverse leadership styles for optimal organizational performance, offering key insights for leadership development in varied settings

    Get PDF
Failure to give exclusive breastfeeding is a risk factor for stunting and malnutrition in toddlers. Other factors that may be the cause of a woman not giving exclusive breastfeeding must be known like family factors, health service factors or there are still other factors. The aim of this study to description the factors causing infants 0-6 months not to receive exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Gatak Health Center. The descriptive analytical research method with total sampling technique obtained a sample of 58 mothers who did not provide exclusive breastfeeding to their infants. The study found that the majority of mothers who did not provide exclusive breastfeeding were aged between 20 and 35 years old, had completed high school or vocational school education, and were employed. The 94.8% of the mothers had good health condition. External factors included mothers with good knowledge, lack of family support, and good support from healthcare workers. Factors causing mothers not to provide exclusive breastfeeding included their productive age and high level of knowledge, which made them prefer to work, resulting in less intensive time with their babies. Mothers felt that they lacked support from their families, which discouraged them from providing exclusive breastfeeding

The intercultural caring-coping patterns of disaster-displaced families in temporary shelters

    Get PDF
This integrative research review sought to explore the concepts of caring and coping in the context of the disaster-displacement phenomenon. It intended to describe and characterize the process of human flourishing amidst crisis through the caring and coping experiences of people living temporarily in emergency shelters after having been forcefully displaced following a devastating disaster event. This review adopted the 11-step method introduced by Tawfik and his colleagues in 2019. Three databases were utilized which included CINAHL, PubMed, and ProQuest. Papers needed to be published in English, with full-text availability for their inclusion. A total of 16 references met the inclusion criteria for the final review. To construct a logical and coherent integration of the important points, four categories of themes were developed: i) disaster impacts on daily life patterns and cultural lifeways; ii) caring patterns during disaster displacement; iii) coping patterns during disaster displacement; and iv) cultural learnings for disaster-based practitioners. It was noted that despite the challenges of crises, disaster victims often recover naturally and return to their previous levels of functioning. Resilient caring-coping mechanisms enable people to flourish in adversity, with culture and traditions playing a vital role in shaping their adjustment and adaptation to current circumstances

Adherence is very important to pay attention to in health management and the quality of life among end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, in the fact that adherence is still lacking. This study aimed to analyze the effect of self-regulatory-based compliance modules improving interdialytic weight gains (IDWG), blood pressure (BP), sodium levels, and functional independence. A quantitative research design with a quasi-experiment approach (pre and post-test control study). A total of 28 samples for each group were taken using purposive sampling. Self-regulation based on health promotion was given using module and IDWG, sodium levels, BP measured with laboratories and physical examination, and Functional Independence measured using a questionnaire. Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Mann-Whitney test were the selected analyses for this study. There was a significant effect on self-regulation-based compliance to IDWG (p=0.012), sodium levels (p=0.001), systolic pressure (p=0.003), and functional independence (p=0.002) in the intervention group. A significant difference was also shown between the two groups (p<0.05). The self-regulation-based compliance module showed improved patient compliance in terms of fluid restriction, taking drugs, paying attention to diet, and managing activities. Adherence to patients increases good outcomes in controlling IDWG, BP, sodium levels, and functional independence in ESRD patients

    Get PDF
The Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey 2022 reported that the prevalence of stunted children in South Nias, a district in North Sumatera, was 27.2%, higher than the regional and national prevalence of stunting. Stunting can be caused by many factors including maternal nutritional status, exclusive breastfeeding, and inadequate food intake. This research aims is to analyze the relationship between maternal factors and cases of stunting in children under two years at Somambawa Community Health Center, South Nias Regency. It was a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. Using a total sampling technique, 72 mothers with children under two years were included in the study. Exact fisher statistical and logical regression tests were carried out in bivariate and multivariate analyses. This study found that there was a significant relationship between antenatal care visits (p-value=0.000) and exclusive breastfeeding (p-value=0.000) with stunting in children under two years old. Exclusive breastfeeding was the most dominant predictor of stunting in the study, namely 84 times (p-value=0.000; OR 84.00). Meanwhile, complementary feeding and knowledge did not show a significant relationship with stunting. Therefore, health education to provide information and knowledge about stunting, especially about exclusive breastfeeding and complementary food for babies is suggested

    Get PDF
Tuberculosis treatment is carried out daily for a long time, causing boredom with taking medication and reducing medication adherence. It results in drug resistance and more prolonged treatment. In response to the situation, this study developed an android-based application called the education, calendar, and medication alarm (EKA) app to improve medication adherence and self-efficacy of tuberculosis patients. Research and development with four steps: evaluation of health education, medication adherence, and self-efficacy; application development; feasibility test; and application socialization. The sample in this study was 38 respondents. This study also uses morisky medication adherence scale (MMAS-8), self-efficacy, and system usability scale (SUS) questionnaires and evaluation sheets to collect the data. Data analysis was done descriptively. The outcomes of the application feasibility test showed that the EKA application received an acceptable value of 81.5 based on acceptance, B value (81.5) based on value scale, an excellent value (81.5) based on adjective rating, and good score (81.5) based on percentile. Socialization on the use of the application goes well, and the patient gets a good understanding and can use the EKA application easily. It proves that the android-based EKA application tested using the SUS questionnaire can be used as a medium for health education and supports medication adherence and self-efficacy
