(Re)Conceptualizando la Renovación Pedagógica en España. Una Revisión Sistemática

    No full text
As a result of the political and social changes and movements of recent years, and in order to respond to the challenges of today's society, schools have found it necessary to renew their educational practices and pedagogical approaches. In view of this situation, this study aims to identify what Pedagogical Renewal (PR) is in Spain today. Specifically, the article aims to reconceptualize PR today from the socio-historical context, teachers' testimonies, terminology and current theoretical references, and also from educational practices. To this end, a systematic review has been carried out following the PRISMA guidelines from the initial selection of 498 publications from Scopus, WoS and Google Scholar, filtered according to inclusion criteria, obtaining a final sample of 77 articles. The main results show that there is no exact definition of PR, but there are key elements that have been maintained over time, such as the need for educational improvement and the link to pedagogical currents, which allow us to identify the foundations of PR today. In conclusion, the traces of PR from the beginning of the 20th century are still present in Spain, although with different nuances and forms

School, families and community networking against early school leaving: theoretical tenets and learnings from a catalan experience

    No full text
As research has amply shown, early school leaving (ESL) has a significant present and future impact on the life of young people (OECD, 2016: Tarabini & Curran, 2018, UE, 2011; Van Houtte & Van Maele, 2012; among others). In the present, because their school experience is negative, it can have a clear impact on their self-esteem, their self-concept and their academic and work expectations. And in the future, it makes a difference because ESL correlates very strongly with a high probability of poverty in adult life, poorer health, less satisfying work and a less participatory social and political life, among others (Tarabini & Ingram, 2018). Failure to obtain official qualifications after compulsory schooling is a burden on the personal, educational and professional development of young people that can only be combatted with, precisely, more and better education. When the education system fails to get every student to learn and continue studying, what is called school failure, it has significant negative consequences for the school experience and the future of young people. It is school failure that is the failure of the education system that, as has been known for decades, affects young children of disadvantaged families far more, thus contributing to the generational reproduction of social inequalities (Bourdieu & Passeron, 1970). Contrary to the meritocratic proclamation that links school success to individual effort alone, research in many countries has shown that the education system tends to have deep problems in reaching equality in education, which is in turn related to the inequality axes of social class, gender or migrant background, among others (Arnot, 1981; Ball, 2003; Bernstein, 1988; Bourdieu, 1980; Fernandez Enguita et al., 2010; Gillborn & Youdell, 2000; Lareau, 2003; Reay, 2018; Rist, 2000; Sandel, 2020; Willis 1977: etc). For, as the pupils at the Barbiana School forcefully reminded us in an open letter to the Italian government, shortly before the death of their teacher, the priest Lorenzo Milani, in 1967: <the school is a hospital that tends to the healthy and rejects the sick. It becomes just a device to strengthen the existing differences to a point of no return= (Alumnes Escola Barbiana,1998, P. 14). These students, who had experienced a truly inclusive school where <no one was denied education= (p.6), denounced from their own experience a selective and segregated education system. To answer these questions, in the second section of this article we briefly describe the phenomenon of ESL in the context of Spain, Catalonia and the county of Osona from a historical perspective, and then focus on the current COVID-19 pandemic situation. And in the third section, we propose a socio-educational, holistic and shared perspective that can connect schools, families and communities together in a network in order to combat ESL, and present the Enxaneta project as experiences of prevention of school failure in the county of Osona

Podium Podcast and the freedom of podcasting: Beyond the limits of radio programming and production constraints

    No full text
The evolution of the Internet and the impact of digitalization have led the radio industry to try new production, distribution and commercialization strategies. In Spain, radio on the Internet began in the mid-1990s, and years later, in 2005, broadcasters incorporated podcasting. For more than a decade, they have used podcasts as a distribution tool, but in recent years, they have started to offer new content through podcasting. In June 2016, PRISA, one of the main Spanish media groups, took a step further with the launch of Podium Podcast. It is a new brand and platform, with a specific catalogue of native podcasts created and delivered taking podcast listeners into account. Podium Podcast is part of PRISA’s digital strategy, but it also shows a new approach to podcasting by the radio industry. Podcasters in Podium Podcast feel free of radio programming conventions and have the opportunity to experiment with content that does not fit into current radio stations’ schedules. Podium Podcast expands the Spanish podcasting sphere and contributes to the popularization of podcasts. However, we wonder to what extent it is a threat to independent podcasters and if it might contribute to the colonization of the field by the mainstream

A population-based, retrospective, cross-sectional observational study is carried out in the adult population over 14 years of age with a Clinical Risk Group 5, of three urban primary care teams managed by the Institut Català de la Salut (ICS). Three subgroups of CCP are identified (prevalence 4.8%). One called “Low Cost” that is addressed almost exclusively by primary care teams. Another called “Psychosocial”, significantly younger, where socioeconomic and mental health aspects are defining. And finally, a third called High Need-High Cost in which the intensity and integration of care is clearly evident. This identification will allow planning proactive and multidisciplinary care where social and health integration takes on a prominent rol

Changes in language use with peers during adolescence: A longitudinal study in Catalonia

    No full text
This article presents a longitudinal panel study analyzing the evolution of a sample of more than 1000 informants in the language practices with peers during the period between the end of primary education and the end of secondary education in Catalonia. Results led to the identification of five clusters of informants according to their linguistic trajectories. Three of them, which together accounted for 75% of all informants, combined the strong predominance of a single language —respectively Catalan, Castilian, and other languages— and a remarkable stability in patterns of language choice during the five years’ period under scrutiny. The other 25% of informants, grouped in two different clusters, declared more bilingual/multilingual behavior and underwent more significant changes that may be related to linguistic mudes [Pujolar, Joan, and Isaac Gonzàlez. 2013. ‘Linguistic “Mudes” and the Deethnicization of Language Choice in Catalonia.’ International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism]. The study also explores the relevance of the transition between primary and secondary education as a social moment favorable for linguistic mudes and concludes thata small but still significant percentage of informants went through such changes in that transition

Challenges experienced by cardiac intensive care nurses during first out-of-bed patient mobilization after open-heart surgery: A descriptive phenomenological qualitative study

    No full text
Aim: To investigate the potential challenges experienced by cardiac intensive care unit (ICU) nurses in the first out-of- bed patient mobilization after open-heart surgery and propose solutions. Design: A qualitative study design using the descriptive phenomenological approach. Methods: Individual face-to- face interviews were conducted via a widely used videoconferencing program between 28 July and 22 October 2022, in the tertiary cardiac ICU of a university hospital. Nurses who had at least 1 year of cardiac ICU experience and actively participating in patient care were included. The COREQ criteria and checklist were followed in this investigation and the data were analysed by using the ATLAS.ti 8.0. Findings: Nurses reported that they experience challenges when mobilizing patients, such as patients' fear, reluctance or resistance; nurses having insufficient experience, strength or lack of team members. Despite these challenges, they highlighted some positive outcomes of mobilization, such as feeling happy, reinforced team communication and nurse–patient relationship. The nurses also suggested some facilitators, such as patient motivation and an explanation of the process. Conclusion: Nurses experience various patient-related and nurse-related challenges during the first out-of- bed mobilization of the patient after open-heart surgery. It is recommended that healthcare institutions should implement effective strategies to address the staffing shortages and to support nurse motivation to ensure adequate nursing care. Impact: This study provides valuable insights into the existing literature by examining the potential challenges and strategies of the first out-of- bed patient mobilization in the cardiac ICU. It shows that patient education and organizational adaptations are effective ways to overcome the challenges. It also suggests that motivating and informing patients before the mobilization can make the process easier. Moreover, it reveals that successful patient mobilization makes nurses happy, improves team communication and strengthens nurse–patient relationship. Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement: No patient or public contribution

    No full text
Estudio-I: El plano sagital es simétrico. This thesis consists of three previously published studies on the kinematics of the foot through the use of inertial sensors that have served to verify the effect of the sports plantar orthosis (OP). Study-I: The sagittal plane is symmetrical. The frontal and transverse planes are not symmetrical with more degrees of range of motion in the right foot. Study 2: OP reduces the degrees of amplitude in the movements of the frontal and transverse planes with greater support time and complete cycle with OP. Study 3: The speed of the foot in support is affected from the stationary phase by the inertia of the swinging leg, between 30% and 60% of the cycle. OP modifies kinematics by decreasing foot speed in the sagittal and transverse planes and increasing foot speed in the frontal plane, improving the transition to the swing leg

The aspect hypothesis and the acquisition of L2 past morphology in the last 20 years: A state-of-the-scholarship review

    No full text
Twenty years ago, a state-of-the-art review in SSLA marked the coming of age of the study of temporality in second language acquisition. This was followed by three monographs on tense and aspect the next year. This article presents a state-of-the-scholarship review of the last 20 years of research addressing the aspect hypothesis (AH) (Andersen, 1991, 2002; Andersen & Shirai, 1994, 1996), the most tested hypothesis in L2 temporality research. The first section of the article gives an overview of the AH and examines its central tenets, and then explores the results of empirical studies that test the hypothesis. The second section considers studies that have investigated four crucial variables in the acquisition of temporality and the testing of the AH. The third section discusses theoretically motivated areas of future research within the framework of the hypothesis
